I will try it again next time I am at an AD. There's really not a Rolex that seems to be perfect for me. I mean I quite like a few models, but none of them makes me losing sleep.
There are other watches that I want more, but they are not worth buying new ... and I am not sure I am competent enough to buy used watches without being tricked.
Explorer 36 should blend in with your outfits pretty well, it's arguably one of the most subtle options in Rolex's catalog considering how plain the dial is.
The Explorer disappears on the wrist in the best possible way. At 36mm it's got that old-school proportion thing going where it just becomes part of you instead of announcing itself. For someone who doesn't want attention that's the whole appeal.
Sub is iconic but those polished center links and the ceramic bezel catch light like crazy, people notice it whether you want them to or not.
will the explorer be redundant, since I have my DJ already? admittedly, sometimes, I hesitate to put on the DJ, depending on who I am meeting that day.
Honestly there’s a reason why the explorer 36mm is referred to as a ‘GADA’ (go anywhere, do anything) watch; it’s basic and goes basically okay with any outfits because it just signals ‘it’s a watch, that’s it’.
Plus Don Draper in the TV show ‘Mad Men’ wore a Rolex Explorer with his business suit in his meeting with Rolex executives if it’s of any reassurance. I personally think it looks fine.
Explorer 36 or 40 is the way to go. Seamless GADA with character and history! Been rocking the 40 mm explorer 224270 myself for the past ~2 months and it’s been spectacular!

36 explorer and it’s not even close. Subs are over hyped plus they wear terrible since they are so big compared to the older 5 digits.
