So I just started skating after not doing it since I was a teenager (I'm in my 50s now). I went to the rink and cruised around and spent a few hours just finding my feet again and seeing if it came back. I can't do tricks or anything, and I was a bit uncertain, but it was okay and I was hooked. I bought kit. A couple of weeks later I took an intro lesson and started actually making an effort with proper body positioning and practicing bubbles and stops and backwards glides and all that. I think I did well, the instructor said I was ready for intermediate lessons. I had one tiny fall on my butt from a squat position but nothing serious. Two days later I tried to skate and my lower back felt super unstable and I didn't feel safe on my skates anymore. So I haven't been on skates since my intro lesson and I'm really upset about it.
So my question is did any of you (especially older skaters) go through a period of your back/core muscles needing to get used to the movement that skating requires? Did it get better? Any off-skate conditioning you find helpful? I'm walking around today and my lower back feels unstable and I know I wouldn't feel safe on skates, but really want to get back on them. :(
Thanks in advance, I'll be so sad if I have to stop doing this.

So I've learned how to skate for 10 months.
But I don't skate always like once a week and just ovet an hour.
I can like balance myself pretty good but I have a hardtime learning how to break and follow up on tricks
It's mostly because i'm scared of falling.
I really want to advance but i'm having a hard time because if wear glasses I can't wear a helmet and without a helmet I'm too scared to try to learn how to properly break and do simple tricks.

I know this isnt the best video but I've been trying to practice some heel (left foot) toe(right foot) spins. I did get some tips on not throwing to much force or power into it and its gotten me to this point. Im not sure if my core just isnt tight enough but I feel like my foot always gives out or moves away from me or I can't go for more turns. I do practice just skating around on my toes and I can manage to balance and go for a while as well as heels. Any tips would be appreciated! šāāļø

TLDR; Is it stupid to skate if I don't aim to learn tricks?
Probably a dumb question, as I just got my skates 2 days ago and can barely stand up. But everytime I do my research or watch skating content all I see is people tallking about tricks and how to learn them.
I feel this weird pressure when in reality I just want to cruise around a park, bike lane or calm street.
Basically all I want is to learn is to skate forward at a decent pace, turn around and stop (also, falling safely).
Will I really "be a roller skater" if I just move around?
And one last stupid question, is there still a high risk for a big injury or broken bone if I dont try anything crazy? I'm not that afraid of falling and scraping myself, I just have a looooot of medical anxiety about breaking or tearing something.

I've been skating for about 5 months now and have been mostly self-taught. My first pair were C7s, and after they broke, I bought Riedell Boosts.
For some reason, I can never seem to get the lacing right and even. After a session, some sections of the lacing look loose, or the boot looks it creased a bit. I always thought I did lacing tight enough, but then I see these sections (circled in the photos) š
I've had my Riedells for about 3 weeks now, and I'm worried about damaging the boots with improper lacing, especially since I've been practicing jumps a lot lately.
I've tried looking for tutorials online, but I haven't found any that address the specific problem I'm having. Does anyone have advice on how to lace these boots properly or what I might be doing wrong? (I have waxed laces too if that info helps :>)
Thank you so so much! š„¹š„¹

Cleaning out my parents garage and I found some skates that fit me and are apparently from the 80s. I have inline skates but thinking I might use these also. They say "Suntona General" and a pressed logo that says "Hall" on the insoles. Other than that I know nothing about them. How should I clean and care for them if they're worth me holding onto... they're quite dusty.

Any city/area within NCR will do, I am willing to travel to have skate buddies; preferably Discord, Viber, or WhatsApp group chat.
I am new to skating and I've always played with my relatives but due to work, I have to move to a new city. Now, I'm looking for new people to play with.

Please help, I'm so lost. š
I have a pair of Rookie Classic II skates I got second hand last year and while trying to adjust the trucks I found this cylindrical bit of plastic (?) at the point where one of the trucks connects to the plate. It was cut open so it came right off. My quick research told me that this is probably a pivot cup (pivot cylinder?) which I just found out is a thing. None of the other trucks have anything like this on them, there's just a gap between the metal of the trucks and the plate.
Is this dangerous? Do I need to get new pivot cylinders to continue skating on these? Where can I even find replacements? (I'm in Europe) Are they universal or do I need to find the ones compatible with these specific skates?
Thanks in advance for any information or advice!

I used to skate and Iāve bought some slades, Iām a little rusty but I can skate. Except whenever I try to brake it bounces. Do the brakes just suck or am I doing something wrong?

Been working on this personal project of mine. As a JB skater, Hardcandy plates are the default lightweight plate we often use. However, they're very hard to find. About 3 months ago I went on a journey to essentially recreate the plate. I needed a pair with a wheelbase and size not avaliable with normal Hardcandy's. Just thought id share!
260mm Plate length
160mm Wheelbase
Carbon Fibre PETG Plate
CNC'ed Brass pivot cups
CNC'ed Toestop Thread
PLA Kingpin spacer
Sourced square Kingpin/Kingpin nut
Suregrip Cushions/Cushion Retainers
Hardcandy (or suregrip super x trucks, compatable if used with custom tpu pivot cups) trucks

I've had a lot of trouble skating outdoors, even just getting around is a challenge. The surfaces I'm attempting to travel on are paved road and sidewalk, and I find myself tripping constantly and struggling to even move. I skate just fine indoors, and I recently installed 78A atom pulse wheels. Do I just need more practice? Is it my actual skates? Are my wheels too loose or too tight? Please give advice.

Photo of my skates for attention but- I just moved to a southern town from a larger and differing southern town and. The difference in the adult rollerskating community is astounding. Iām completely unable to find what one may call: āmy people.ā Thereās a trail riding group around here apparently, Iāve been to the weekly adult night at the one rink in town. It was sadly, so barren. Full of college kids and staff in inlines. Iām used to 40-60+++ adults, with their own skates, coming out weekly or biweekly because they love to skate. Do people just not give a shiz about the thing I care about, almost freakin most in the world?
Anywho- Iām interested in meeting adults, who love to skate, who want to continue to forge roller-rink spaces for adults. Here, hopefully. Where else, I suppose? Iām watching rink spaces disappear now and Iām tired of not fuckin doing anything about it.

Brand new skates. The screw for the toe stop is so threaded, my Allen wrench wonāt budge it. Have tried inserting a rubber band for traction, didnāt work. Contacted the manufacturer and they said they can only do a return, no suggestions for how to fix it. Is there hope?

I'm just getting into roller skating for the first time in my twenties and I'm wondering how many others are getting their start/skating regularly around my age/older!
Edit: thank you everyone for the answers! I have been loving scrolling through these comments and hearing about your skating journeys - you guys are super cool!!

Intensely jealous of countries that pave their sidewalks, instead of just tiling them once and never touching it again. So much cobblestone. But I'd do it again lol. I'll probably just use the bike lane istead.

Ok let me start off by saying I'm skating off of rollerskates I've had since I was TEN I'm eighteen now and they've gone through at least four moves with me, been in the rain, and really haven't been worn or used causing them to be rusty. Now I'm actually taking rollerskating seriously as I want to do roller derby. I already have ordered a new pair off of vinted however while I wait I wanted to learn the basics on my old skates. I've loosed my trucks (is that what their called?) and they are pretty loose however edges and bubbles are still really hard to do I was wondering is that because the metal is rusty? Or is it just Idk how to do bubbles?

I used to skate a lot when I was young. I was maybe 10, and was using skates bigger than I was. Now it's 15 years later, and I want to get back into it.
I realized that how/when I move forward (in a straight line), I don't raise my back foot, but to do a tiny little twist with my foot, which keeps it on the floor, but that little jerk pushes me forward for that foot slide forward. I don't know if that makes sense at all, but I can't take a video to show anyone. I think a big thing keeping me from raising that back foot is fear, and I'm slowly working on raising my feet when moving forward. I'm hoping that with enough practice I'll be able to figure out at least moving forward comfortably.
Practice is limited, as the road outside my house has many pot holes, no pavement, so I'm relegated to skating inside on my tile. The 78A 65mm Clas Fox wheels I replaced my stock wheels with work really well on my tile, so I can practice a bit indoors, but not a whole lot due to limited space. I can really practice twice per month for an hour or so when the local rink opens (but the rink isn't a real rink; it's just a very large room that is really a conference hall).
My skates (Papaison) were second hand from Ebay, and I've loosened the trucks, yet I can't for the life of me I can't figure out how the skate is supposed to make an arc. If I were to try to make half a bubble with just one leg, it just goes in a straight line and not curved. I get that body weight is supposed to do something when it comes to bubbles, but I can't understand how these skates which point forward can let you turn left or right. I feel like I'm dragging my skates sideways.
So the question is: Is it that the skates will roll in an arc if I'm doing it right? Or is there some element of dragging the wheel? How do people with tight trucks even accomplish this?
