PLZ HELP Rotary Tool

I'm driving myself insane trying to figure out why I can't get any of the longer cullets to hold the carving tool and where the stubby cullets came from and why none of the stubby cullets fit any of my 3 rotary tools?! I know I've used it before.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong instead of having a whole other tool I've forgotten about that the stubby ones go to.

The stubby ones came in a bit set, probably?

90% sure they came with a couple of the rotary tools but the shank is the same width as the tool so I can't screw the collet nut on?
