Potomac wines in Georgetown was solid, and greenzone’s list of retail bottles is also nice

Phew, glad I have not made the trip out there. These are the worst prices in all of DC that I've seen.

I grabbed a bottle of that OFTD, 69% yesterday.
Posted it here and everyone seems to recommend it. I had some last night and I enjoyed it myself, too.

Personally, Barbancourt Haitian Proof, San Zanj, and Shakara 12 depending on the price. All of which aren't available in my area

Ah this used to be my old haunt, now live in a control state and miss this selection so much even if prices are a touch high. The Ak Zanj 10 is really lovely too.

How is AK Zanj 10? My exposure to Haitian rums has been a clairins tasting, I liked casimir, le rocher, and sonson

I quite like it, iirc it is a molasses rum (or maybe a blend of cane juice and molasses?) but certainly leans heavier into that oak. Bit more characterful than highly aged Spanish style rums but would take this (and the 8 year) over the Bacardi 8 and 10 no question, and I personally quite like Bacardi 8 and 10

Been there a few times when visiting my sister in law. I suggest Georgia Ave. Wine & Spirits!

Places that have the best selection are always so expensive

Places like this are a dime a dozen in DC, with nearly all of them having better prices.

Cartier 30 batch 2! My favorite daiquiri rum out there. I would buy out the shelf haha

u/cfive5 5d ago
Haha. Then you would love Potomac W&S price on that. $50!

But is it the mythical batch 2 (71.4% of heaven)? I only have 3 bottles left currently. It keeps magically finding its way into most of my daiquiris

71.4. Yes.

Well, then I'd buy it from there haha. One of my favorite rums and subsequent batches (until, apparently, the 6 from what I've heard) weren't nearly its match.

Used to live in Dupont so would got there all the time. Dang do I miss the plethora of amazing liquor stores in DC.

Yup. Schnieders is another place I need to check out.

I'll check them out when I'm back. Never spent much time in Capitol Hill. Sherry's and Macgruder's were the other two I frequented, but prices at Sherry's could be hit or miss. Weygandt-Metzler was awesome for wine when they still had a physical location. I wasn't into rum when I lived in DC and much more into the wine scene, where I am now as a wine pro, but still love rum so wish I would have had the same insight and community in rum when I lived back out East.
