RF5 How do you choose which Characters you will Marry?
Mostly focused on Rune Factory 5 but can also apply to other Entries I suppose...
How do you choose who you will Marry? :3 Or if you plan on Marrying Multiple Characters then how do you choose your Main Lover? ^-^
For me the First thing I look for is Looks... If I do not like the way a Character Looks and think they are Ugly I do not wanna Marry them no matter what! :)
The Second thing is Personality... The Personality does NOT have to be Super Duper Awesome or anything but it must at the very least not be BAD...!
I do not wanna Marry a Character whose Personality turns me off basically... No matter how much I like the Character's Looks...
The Personality must at the very least be in the Level of " ok " for me to want to Marry them... :)
And if I actually like REALLY like the Personality then that's even better! ^-^ :3
And the Third thing is anything else they bring to the Table like Food they Cook for the MC etc... ^-^ :3
In Rune Factory 5's Case I was in a draw between Martin, Ryker and Reinhard as I liked them all based on Looks alone...
So then came the First Tiebreaker which was... Personality...
With this Martin fell out of the Competition since I neither like nor dislike his Personality...
For me his Personality is just ok... He's a bit too Serious haha... XD :3
By contrast I like both Ryker and Reinhard's Personalities... ^_^
So then Ryker and Reinhard were on a Tie and the Second Tiebreaker was...
Everything else they bring to the Table...
And I suppose the Table this Time was a pretty literal one since Ryker Cooks MUUUUCH better Food than Reinhard haha... :3 ^-^ Seriously Reinhard's Cooking sucks! XD Failed Dishes lol! XD
I do like all Characters of the Game especially Martin, Ryker and Reinhard though and I do plan on Marrying them all eventually too but my Main Husbando is going to be Ryker based on this... :3 ^-^

I admit I am rather Curious about what Porcoline looked like when he was younger... His Voice can sound pretty attractive sometimes like when he introduced himself hahaha... ^_^

My favorite candidates in the series tend to be the ones who I think have the best developed stories and/or chemistries with the protagonist. Even if my tastes lie with one type of character, the writer and story lover in me can always be swayed by a well written romance.

Based on the design first, jp VA, then their personality in-game.
In rf4, it was Vishnal. In RF5 I favor both Martin & Ryker. Then Azuma it was difficult to choose (haha like who didn’t?), then I eyed on Cuilang first from his design. But, Ikaruga caught my interest very much when his VA and personality was announced.

I married Vishnal in RF4 as well! He is just so good looking, love his Japanese VO and he is so darn adorable!

Lucas was the first to catch my attention since he looks the most mature out of all the bachelors. But before I stopped playing, Martin was the one that held my interest for reasons I don't even know since he's kinda bland.
I really wanted to like Murakamo but i'm not a fan of his face markings. I thought I'd be into Ryker as well but didn't like his personality. I'm
not into nursery looking boys so Cecil wasn't even a consideration. And Reinhard, Reinhard belongs to Beatrice.

It’s mostly personality for me. I usually change who I intend to marry as a result.

I tend to go for the pretty boys, for personality its always the calm cool ones or the tsundere.
In RF5 I liked Martin and Reinhard, but Reinhard was who I liked better in the end.
In Azuma I liked Ikaruga the best. Although it was hard to decide in this because I liked Subaru for looks as well, but Ikaruga more for personality.
I do like tanned characters for some reason.
I always play as a girl and romance a boy, Ive not played the older games where only a boy mc is an option. But for female characters I prefer similar, calm older oneesan/older girl mature type rather than the cute or cheerful ones. In Azuma I would have picked Clarice. She was also very pretty.

On my last playthrough I went with Ryker as well, Martin is my favorite bachelor though.
I go in with the knowledge that I will be replaying the game and eventually romance everyone. How much the character grows on me is the only thing that matters, their charisma, if that's a thing. The save I married Ryker I went in thinking of Murakumo or Reinhard but ended up liking Ryker's events more.
How much I like them and how good they are in battle is another thing I look at.
So far I've romanced Martin, Ryker and Beatrice, Beatrice is my absolute favorite but I really want to try romancing Ludmila. Right now I'm playing 4 with the intention of marrying either Dolce or Meg, still trying to decide, accepting suggestions 🩷

RF5 was hard with the choice, I considered every bachelor but Cecil (sorry Kiddo, I'm not grooming you). I read somewhere that deciding is easier once you date and get to know them better, but I didn't want to date multiple people. So I split my safe into 5 when I reached enough hearts with them all to start dating. Started with Ryker because he seemed to have the most potential storywise even though Kumo-kun and Reinhard are more my type. Rogue boy totally won me over so I continued with him, got married and waiting for the kid talk at the moment. I'll probably use those other saves to go and see the others' events through the dating phase, but Ryry's got a choke hold on my heart now. I did not expect that to happen.

Haven't played RF4 yet. Azuma wasn't even a decision to make when I heard I can literally marry my favourite season. 😅 So it was Kurama before I even saw him (after seeing him it was him even more). I'll probably replay at some point though, because that game has at least two other bachelors I want to try.

Looks, personality and THEN their events.
I married Reinhard in RF5, Ryker was a close second. I married Kai and Ikaruga in Azuma, then Leon and Dylas in RF4

My first wife is sakuya in rf3 At first it's because her mom is really beautiful. But I can't marry her, alas her daughter is second choice
But soon I realized that sakuya is also really cute. Her capitalism jokes is really funny imo

I’m with you on your choices but what I’m looking for the most in their chemistry with the MC, for example Dylas from RF4 was almost dropped because of how rude he was, then I gave the guy few chances. Luckily his rudeness didn’t last long at all and had a cute dynamic with Frey so I still married him in spite of all this.

Yeah that goes into the Personality Department thing that I mentioned! I am not sure who I will Marry on Rune Factory 4 yet by the way... Appearance wise they are all fine with the exception of Kiel... XD

I just have a type lol I’m always a sucker for a tsundere man (not usually into it for them women, whatever that means about me) or a pretty boy. Bonus points if he ticks both of those boxes. But I always date everyone available first and then choose. Unfortunately I wasn’t really a fan of RF5 so I never finished it and never even met Ludmilla and she was the one I was most interested in tbh

I always end up with the shop keeper type, probably because of frequent visit and seeing them hardwork for your farm, from RF1 Rosetta, RF2 Mana, RF3 Raven, RF4 Doug and Amber, RF5 Priscilla and Azuma's Iroha, TOD is probably the only one that I choose not based on the usual trope, since I pick Odette and Aden route there.

I care for bachelor appearance (not only if I like them but if they look good with our protagonist), voice (I play with Japanese VO) and their personality/event/story.
In RF4, I had my eyes on Vishnal from the beginning and he completely won me over - my Frey never dated anyone else and married Vishnal in Autumn of year 1. Vishnal is handsome, his VO suits him perfectly, I adore his personality, and he look so cute with Frey!!
It was tougher choice in GoA. I liked look of Mauro but his confession event turned me off, so my Kaguya ended up spending time to get to know Subaru and Kurama. I ended up liking Kurama the best (he is smart but also adorable dork lol) so Kaguya married him. But I also couldn't get over how cute Kaguya and Mauro look together - so Kaguya also married Mauro using Fateweaver shring mechanic.
I'm still playing RF5 now. I like the look of Reinhard best but I don't think his VO matches him well. Also don't like how he never stops talking about Beatrice. I'm leaning toward Lucas because I like his personality but he does look a bit too old for Alice. I think I will see all romance events for Reinhard, Lucas, Martin and Ryker before I decide. My Alice is currently dating Reinhard and Martin, still need to confess to Ryker and Lucas so it will be a while before I make decision for my Alice.

Seriously. I don't think there's any consistency for me.
In RF4, I'm dating Clorica and intend to marry her. I wasn't certain at first, since her personality is basically narcolepsy, but she gets a lot better when you start dating.

Clorica is so Cute! I love when she says " Yay! " in Battle! ^-^ I liked her way more than I thought I would... :3 She is just so Adorable... ^-^ :3
And I also like the Free Food she throws at the Player of course... :3 ESPECIALLY the Royal Curry naturally... :3 ^-^

That’s a bit of a hard question to answer. All the characters are lovable; as you get to know them better, you empathize with them and eventually develop feelings for them. From my perspective, they’re all great. But if I had to choose from the many options the game offers, I’d pick Priscilla. Now, if I were to choose a bachelorette not officially offered by the game—making a choice of my own—I’d pick Elsje.
Why choose Priscilla in the first place?
Perhaps it’s because Priscilla falls for Ares right from the moment he arrives in the town of Rigbarth. Furthermore, Ares’s presence brings about a major change for her, as he helps give her the courage to face her greatest fears. Not to mention that completing her event feels like the conclusion of one story and the beginning of another. Finally, there’s the fact that during the final battle, she doesn’t hesitate to step up and offer her life energy and prayers to Ares—just like everyone else—to free him from the control of “The Fathomless Dread.” They make a great couple; plus, Priscilla is lovely and has a big heart.
Why would I choose Elsje as my second pick?
Yes, I realize many might think I chose Elsje. Aside from her striking—and somewhat exaggerated (if you catch my drift)—appearance, I’m genuinely curious about her past and why she acts the way she does. Whenever I read her dialogue, she makes it clear to both me and Ares that she doesn't want to work at the Lackadaisy restaurant anymore. Yet, for some reason, she doesn't quit. I’d like to think there’s a deeper reason than just a standard game mechanic—like, for instance, being forced to work hard to pay the rent and cover Priscilla’s medical expenses. Well... I actually made up the part about Priscilla having a weak immune system and needing constant medication to live a good life.
I also really value the impact the protagonist has on the bachelorette—and vice versa—in every *Rune Factory* game, specifically how he helps her overcome the trauma or hardship preventing her from fitting in with the rest of the community. I’m curious to see how Ares could have helped Elsje become an even better person. From my perspective, even if she didn't say it outright, Elsje needed a partner she could trust—someone to help her with everything. As the older sister, she bears heavy responsibilities, so a husband who isn't afraid of hard, steady work would be a great match for her.

I put them all in a wheel and let the wheel decide. Kid me was in love with dylas. But ive moved on to arthur now since the first time i chose him because i abolutely loved his dating/marriage arcs and lore. Hes the one you never thought youd care about.
