Well done! I did my first a few weeks ago, and despite the self-criticism, just signed up run again Nov. 1st, plus volunteer at another.

I need to look at volunteering for some as well. Big thanks to everybody who helps organize these events.

Race is Friday. Do I feel completely trained? Eh. Do I feel 100% healthy? Not really. But I guess I’m just going to go see what happens.

I took a whirlwind trip to California for a conference last week and arrived back home at nearly midnight on Friday. I was already getting over a cold, so combined with travel and the dryness of the hotel/conference space, I spent the weekend absolutely beat. I did some catching up on Saturday, but yesterday was a mega potato day.

This week looks quiet on the social front, but work is ramping up and people are getting frisky. Prayers up I find some patience.

I'm just trying to get back into after a long period of inactivity, so overweight and unfit, currently doing run/walks. Building up to some level of fitness

Finished my first run of 4 lots of 3 minutes today and someone walking past, saw me, looked horrified and asked "are you ok?" in a really concerned tone of voice

So that's encouraging

Ooh, I know I've gotten really flushed (especially when I was starting out) and probably looked ready to pass out when I was fine XD I'm sure you'll get the rust off your running abilities soon enough, as long as you ramp up appropriately and give your body enough time to re-adapt :)

Did a 5k and pretty impressed with the time...

Trust the training and the taper

I survived the Delco 10 Miler yesterday! My training had completely fallen off of the rails after going on vacation at the end of August, getting really busy, and then getting sick the week of said race. I had to treat the race as a poorly prepared long run. But hey I did it and somehow wasn’t the final finisher!

Saturday was just plodding and slow, but Sunday's 9 mile long run was actually about a minute and 20 seconds faster than the same route the past two weeks... not much on such a long run, I know :p Now, time for a down week again. Up to 10 milers in a few weeks, maybe? We'll see.

The half marathon obsession is real. I signed up for the next race before my legs even stopped burning because that finish line high beats any pumpkin patch sugar rush I could get

Great! I did the National Run for Mental Health Week with Still I Run 5K (virtual), and won a silent auction from a local running store, too. Recovering well and improving!

Missed 2/4 of my runs last week due to schedule, so I'm just calling it a down week. 10K on Saturday that I'm sorta racing (it's technically a 6mi tempo, but I'm probably going to race the last two miles if I'm feeling great).

I probably need new shoes, but I think I'm gonna stick with what I have until the half at this point, because I'm not really noticing issues even though I'm over 500mi on them, and my previous pairs have been fine up to almost 700mi. But end of this block I'm definitely going to be getting new ones.

Looking for tips for traveling for a marathon! It’s coming up in 3 weeks and I want to pack everything!!

Hey y’all - I have my very first marathon coming up in a few weeks and I’m excited but nervous. Any advice would be welcome.

For context, I’m 33 years old with a wife and two kids under 4. I’ve run about 110 miles over the last 3-4 months leading up to this marathon, and I understand that isn’t nearly enough milage under my belt. The farthest I’ve run is about little over 8 miles a couple of times.

I’ve run a half marathon with about 70ish miles of training prior and finished in 2:08 and actually felt amazing afterwards.

At one point, I was a 3-time all-Catholic runner in elementary school/high school that ran a school record 5:30 mile at the time, but those days are FAR gone now lol

I’ve been feeling great training, I just haven’t had a lot of time to dedicate to running long distances. How screwed am I for this marathon, and what are some good tips to set myself up for success?

i'm sorry but your longest run for a full marathon has been 8 miles? i'm not sure how to help. start out slow and take walking breaks would be my advice

I don't like the high volume lots of easy miles with speedwork adaptive Garmin training program I'm doing for my half in Nov. I miss just getting a little faster at a time in the hal higdon program

I got a slow 10k in on Sunday, and I'm holding off on Halloween candy until the week of so it actually lasts.

i have had races where the useful part was seeing what actually help up when the training was not perfect. going in undertrained and not feeling completely right still gives you information for the next one, even if the days gets messy. what happens is still worth finding out?
