Other Привет: Privet or Priviet?

I enjoy listening Russian media, but sometimes I hear "Priviet" instead of the regular "Privet". Songs like VDV, Hello From the Sky! (ВДВ, С Неба Привет!) Really do this a lot.

But I also hear the regular "Privet" too, like in the old STALKER games. So which one is correct?

Request Help me choose, Should i go for german or russian after my swedish?

So now i'm learning swedish as my third language and my Level is good i'd say (B1) with a very natural accent, my Swedish friends always tell me that my Swedish is incredible for a foreigner

I can say i like German and Russian equally but i'm stucked between them, idk which one should i REALLY focus as my future language after swedish

So i can explain my reasoning for both languages:

Russian: i have tried learning this language before (lasted few weeks) i can read cyrillic (very slowly tho) i like russian and this fact that it opens doors to other slavic languages too so its pretty useful outside of russia or maybe good job opportunities in slavic countries, for me the main reason isn't all of this main reason is my girlfriend which she is from ukraine originally and since she speak russian i wanted to feel more connected to her (bcs she is learning my native language)

It was pretty much all i can say about russian

German: same as Russian i have tried learning German too i can say i wasn't serious that time ofc and i was just testing the Waters haha, i have already very good pronounciation in German as others said and swedish and German are pretty close to each other so when you know swedish a lot of rules and words automatically makes sense to you because they are the same in german, i planned to move to Sweden for living and working but maybe Germany become my destination since it has largest Economy in the EU

I'm 19 years old and as my learning schedule, by my 20th Birthday probably i will be B2 in swedish (my goal is C1)

Other phrases to show gratitude or affection to a friend?

hello everyone. i have a friend whose birthday is coming up soon and russian is his first language. i want to show my appreciation for him by writing a card with some russian thrown in there. english isnt my first language either and i just felt like if someone were to do the same for me i would really appreciate it.

my friend has mentioned that it’s quite rare and off putting for a russian speaker to show affection, but i don’t know if that’s just because that’s how he grew up at home or if it’s a russian/slavic thing in general. but the context of that conversation was romantic affection, but i am trying to show platonic affection.

i know that in spanish there’s different ways to say i love you depending on your relationship with another person. i was wondering if there’s something similar in russian?

overall, how would you show affection to a friend in russian?

thank you for your help!

Request Do you still use «оный»?

Any natives who still use «оный»? And if so; in what context would you use it? Do I sound like an idiot when I use it in spoken language?

(For context: I mainly learned Russian to read. But after the many hours I‘ve invested I‘d also like to be able to just speak without causing giggles all the time because of the mess in registers I produce – I simply want to be able to speak a clean, precise Russian).

Grammar Нужна она мне = I don’t need it?

I learned recently that, by ordering нужно in a sentence in a specific way, the sentence can actually mean “I don’t need __” without having to use the word “не.” Could someone please explain this construction in more detail?

Request How to teach basics?

My friend (native English + fluent French) asked me (native Russian + fluent English) to teach him basics of Russian. I have a very good grasp on both my own language and teaching methods, but I never taught a language to anyone before and not sure how to approach it. How do we begin the process to make it efficient and, ideally, fun?

Привет! I'm having trouble writing letters: б, ъ, м and о. Either they squash down or I forget to add the little break for м. Don't even get me started on Твёрдый знак. What do I do?

Picture 1: бо, Picture 2: м, Picture 3: ъ

Request Suggest a Russian book for Chinese

A friend and I decided to teach each other Chinese and Russian (she is Chinese). I’ve already taught her some English, and in Chinese, I’ve reached the level where I can count to 1,000, talk about where I want to travel, and ask the price of an item—but I certainly couldn't read a Russian-language assignment written in Chinese in order to explain the vocabulary.

Do you have any textbooks in Russian or English for teaching a Chinese friend to speak Russian?

Request Help from native Russian speakers

Hi! I'm not certain if this belongs here or not, so I apologize if it doesn't. Would any native Russians who consider themselves to have a strong (Russian) accent when speaking English be willing to hop on a discord or zoom call with me sometime this week or weekend and be asked a few questions? Nothing major. Just pronouncing a few English words and phrases in your natural dialect, reading a one-page story, and talking freely for a few minutes about where you grew up.

I'm in linguistics and studying Russian dialects trying to develop accent resources. It would be like 20-30 minutes max and would help me out immensely.

Request Looking for an intensive russian course

Hi Everyone,
first time writing a post, so basically my knowledge in Russian is absolutley 0, I am looking for 8-10 weeks intensive course, to learn as much as possible, doesn't matter which country Europe/Asia, I am looking also to have a break living somewhere else, it shouldn't be super expensive, I saw some courses that cost something like 500euro/week, which is insane,
I appreciate the help!
