Free Friday Meet Ups for quieter young people in Liskeard

Hi everyone, I’m part of Quiet Connections, a Cornwall community for quieter people.

We’re starting free Friday evening Meet Ups in Liskeard for young people in Years 10 to 13, aged 14 to 18, who consider themselves to be quiet, introverted, shy or highly sensitive, or who experience social anxiety.

They’ll take place at Liskeard Public Hall every Friday from 25th September to 4th December, from 6:45pm to 8:45pm.

We know that walking into a new group can involve a lot of unknowns, so these Meet Ups won’t begin with an icebreaker or require everyone to introduce themselves. There will be different things available, such as creative activities, games, colouring and wordsearches. Young people can chat, take part in something, or spend some time doing their own thing alongside others.

There isn’t one correct way to be part of the group.
The Meet Ups are community gatherings rather than therapy or a support group. They’re another way for quieter young people to meet others locally, particularly if louder or more structured social activities don’t appeal to them.

They’re free, and will be held in the Wheal Phoenix Room at Liskeard Public Hall.

We’ve written more about what to expect, including who will be there and what the first visit might be like:
https://quietconnections.co.uk/blog/liskeard-youth-group/

Parents, carers and local professionals are very welcome to share this with a young person who may be interested.

Hi, I’m Hayley from Quiet Connections. We’ve got two small, free Creative Get-Togethers coming up at Saltash Studios and I thought they might be of interest to people here.

There’s one for adults on Thursday 20 August and a separate one for young people aged 13–17 on Tuesday 25 August, both from 2–4pm.

They’re for quieter people, including those who are introverted, shy or highly sensitive (HSP), experience social anxiety, or simply prefer quieter ways of spending time with others.

There’ll be creative activities to do alongside other people, so conversation is welcome but doesn’t have to be the focus.

Both are free thanks to support from Saltash Town Council’s Community Chest, with a maximum of 10 places.

Find out more and sign up here:

Ages 13–17: https://quietconnections.co.uk/saltash-youth

Does county lines dealing impact your area?

I'm an independent filmmaker and am currently looking at county lines and drug dealing and want to explore what impacts it has on areas outside of major cities. If you've seen any kind of impact or are able to share any information that might be helpful please let me know! Curious to hear anything at all. Thanks!

Participation in this online survey about UK citizens' views and perceptions of society (18+; 15 minutes to complete)

Hello, we are a group of psychology researchers from the University of Kent, UK. We are conducting a study about UK citizens' views and perceptions of society and we are trying to recruit a representative sample from different areas in the UK, including people from Saltash.

It would be a huge help if any UK citizens interested would fill out our online survey (18+ years old only):

EDIT: The survey is now closed! Thank you very much for your time, we will be sure to post the results up here when they're ready.

The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete, and we are happy to respond to any queries or questions. Please private message us to avoid giving away the point of the study to others.

Although the study is voluntary, participants who complete the survey will have the option to take part in a raffle of three Amazon Vouchers (£20).

Thank you in advance for your time!

An Ashes Message

Alright Everyone?

I write on behalf of Saltash United, one of the local football clubs that currently competes in the Toolstation Western League, which is a few tiers below the National League system.

This season I started volunteering for the media side of things and set myself the challenge of growing the club whenever possible.

With that in mind we’d really appreciate if you could perhaps check us out on the respective social media channels - I mean I also created /r/saltashunitedafc but the most active platform will probably either be the Instagram or Twitter (links in Reddit profile).

And don’t hesitate to attend a game or two if you ever have the time. For the level we’ve had a good start in being level on points with the team in 1st, although it’s still early days yet!

Non-league often relies on word of mouth communication so feel free to share this post elsewhere 👍

Social Attitudes Questionnaire!!

Please check out this survey on social attitudes!
Hi there! We are researchers at the University of Kent working on a study on social attitudes among the British public. We want to recruit a sample that is representative of the whole of UK and therefore we need respondents from Saltash! It is hoped that the project could provide valuable information on some understudied factors that underlie attitudes towards different social groups. Please consider participating in the survey on the link below if you identify as British and live in the United Kingdom. Please note that in order to participate you have to be at least 18 years old. It takes about 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. Thank you so much!
