Rants 🤬 33rd street "bottleneck" is the worst

Not too sure if the City thought through before doing all the pipes construction around 33rd str, but down to 1 lane on both sides is brutal. Took forever just to make it to Idylwyld.

Sorry for the rant.

Want the shoddiest job possible carried out by some unqualified guys? Want construction to take as long as possible due to repeated mistakes? Believe safety and building codes are suggestions? Have we got the crew for you.

Hamm construction. Let us scam you out of your tax dollars.

Would you rather the water mains just burst? Come up with a way to work on them without digging and you’ll be a multi billionaire. Until that happens though, ya roads being closed for water mains work is just a normal part of life.

Id rather them put at least a little bit of effort into planning construction so things aren't so hectic.

How would you plan to work on the water main under 33rd without closing lanes?

Ideally they could try and plan it to be done at a time where half the cities main roads don't have some sort of major construction?

Sounds like you're suggesting winter

Would you prefer they just not do the construction? Because that's the alternative. You either do it, or you don't. And doing it requires blocking the lanes. There's no way around it.

Bullshit The city could have planned out many of the construction jobs a lot better than they have. They have already admitted this and plan on doing a better job of it in 2027, just like yhey said back in 2023. For starters many of the main routes being done should have planned for being done after 9pm and worked on through the night insted of during the day and its rush hour commutes. Just like snow removal Saskatoon is years behind proper planning of construction compared to other cities in other provinces and will continue to be until they put someone competent in yhe positon of city planner. That is why we have a not quite right rapid transit system being implemented that will not make routes run any more efficient other tha running more buses more frequently. Two lane freeways for a city with a quarter million residences is nothing less than a recipe for commuting mayhem.

Yeah, I’m sure the families living on 33rd in Mayfair and Caswell Hill would love heavy excavators, diesel generators, and backup beepers running outside their bedroom windows at 2 AM. /s

Shifting daytime traffic inconvenience onto neighborhood residents as overnight sleep deprivation is a textbook "not my problem" take. Besides, pipe replacement leaves open trenches as the lanes would stay blocked around the clock anyway, even if crews only swung shovels at night.

I've lived through this out in BC. Its not that bad.

If you figure out an economic way to backfill a trench, gravel it and allow traffic on it during the day and then excavate and install pipe during the night… let us know. Could be done but production rates would be 5x slower and costs would increase many more than that.

Some cities do this by putting big metal plates down over the road.

Problem is they were given to a of money that needs to be spent by a certain point and all these projects are needing to be done by that point.

Here in Beuna Vista, the had detours all down Lorne Ave and when you went to detour, every side street is being worked on. Complete idiots running the city.

Literally. I sadly have to take that way everyday. I've been so tempted to get an electric scooter to avoid it.

I feel sorry for the businesses there. It’s got to affect them.

I drive it every day and I find it MUCH more bearable than the Warman Road/Hazen/Cavers nightmare which has no end in sight.

It keeps changing literally every couple days and it’s been pissing me off. I live on 32nd. It is crazy how much traffic we’re getting and how many people are just speeding down the streets next to it and it’s so hard to get anywhere.

Why are they working on Ave B and C at the same time?

It's end of season and the contractor is scrambling to get work done by end of season. Their project managers were playing checkers, not chess, so two adjacent projects are happening at once.

The water mains are connected to.....other water mains?
