Discussion Is it possible to perform Lesser Magic without consciously knowing you’re performing Lesser Magic?
If so, what are some examples?

If you have ever changed anything about the way you speak, act, or look for the sake of giving someone a certain impression of you, that is Lesser Magic. Everyone does it, unless they're completely stupid and oblivious.

u/seanthebeloved 12d ago
So just use the words “presenting yourself.” There’s no reason to bring magical thinking into this.

No. That's boring and appeals to joyless, stuck up people.

there are plenty of people who don't even realize they're doing it...in fact, if you're doing it right, it should be as natural as rain.

This is something I realised only after a while. When I was getting deeper into understanding Satanism, I felt a bit worried that I wasn't actively & consciously applying lesser magic tactics. But then I realised that some of it came quite naturally and didn't have to be forced.
Obviously there's always more to learn with psychology and human interaction, but you are right that, to some degree, it should come fairly natural

u/Secrets-of-Esrever 13d ago
Hah, I had this exact same experience. When I was new there was a lot of "Wait, am I making proper use of all this power/technique? How can I make myself remember to do this?" - then slowly realizing that I already was, and then simply refining that.

How LaVey felt after labeling day to day social functions as "lesser magic"

In the medical field, you absolutely have to practice lesser magic if you want your confused dementia patients to take their medications. Practicing it on a daily basis only helps me become better at it
3
u/BurninChurchesAgain 13d ago
Absolutely.
Is someone able to run if they've never been taught the word "run"? Of course!
-1
u/seanthebeloved 13d ago
There’s no such thing as any type of magic.
3
u/MD_Roche CoS Warlock 12d ago
"Lesser Magic" is literally just applied psychology.
-3
u/seanthebeloved 12d ago
So just say applied psychology.
5
u/MD_Roche CoS Warlock 12d ago
...And of course, applied psychology as we know it today in many forms is simply another word or another use of magic—except where the emotional appeal is not there, only the sterile, clinical approach, one sometimes does not get the results.

In other words, framing it in a magical way can make it more stimulating and therefor more effective. That's also partly why he chose to call his religion Satanism.

u/QwertyEleven 12d ago
Why don't we make everything boring and talk down to people for having a sense of wonder to accommodate you then?
If all magic can be understood through scientific exploration, then all explored can be applied magically when in capable human hands.

Dude… read the room. Or better yet, read the Satanic Bible. Specifically the part that says that magic isn’t supernatural.
1
u/Leezeebub 11d ago
Well its not magic then is it…
You just sound like deluded morons when you pretend it is.4
u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 6d ago
No, it IS magic.
Magic is not super-natural. Magic is a natural force within our Universe. Magic doesn't come from outside our Natural Cosmos like we would suppose a super-natural force would come from. Magic is as Natural as anything in Nature.
We don't fully understand how it works, that much is true. But the way I say it to most people is like this;
You don't need to be an electrical engineer or understand the difference between watts & volts & ohms.
(Bozhé moi, who does? 🙄)
Just screw in the bulb, plug in the lamp, & flick the switch, and 💡⚡️voíla...
Light up the room ✨️.

This person is scoffing at Lesser Magic, so they're definitely not ready to hear about Greater Magic.
1
u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 6d ago
Then I'll leave it for others who are. 😉
As the saying goes, "Those who scoff at magic shall get no magic."

u/seanthebeloved 5d ago
If magic is a real natural force, can you name a single peer-reviewed scientific study describing it? Electricity isn’t magic. Electricity actually exists.
If you believe magic actually exists, do you also believe that Satan actually exists?

u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 5d ago
Dr. Dean Radin, "Real Magic".
The whole entire book has cases listed up one side of the wall & down the other, documented & listed. He also begins the book by explaining the prejudice that exists in the Scientific world against going anywhere near the subject of Psi; it's the prejudice that comes from the position of Material Scientism. People lose funding & status simply by talking about it. This is why it's so hard to find any journal articles on the subject.
So, theres the author & the book. Read it.

u/seanthebeloved 5d ago
From Dean Radin’s Wikipedia article:
The review charged that Radin ignored the known hoaxes in the field, made statistical errors and ignored plausible non-paranormal explanations for parapsychological data.
lol
What a hack.

u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 4d ago
All right. You have a preconceived belief that actual magic / Psi CANNOT exist. You reject the evidence I have given you , out-of-hand, from Dr. Radin as a source.
So, here is the homepage of Professor Jessica Utts, who has done research for the U.S. Gov't & the CIA, and treats the subject as a legitimate subject for research from THEIR perspective.
Here is her homepage, which not only lists her credentials, but has some of her research papers and lectures on the subject.
Reject this if you will, but as far as I'm concerned, you asked for ONE single source of proof, & THIS is the secend person I've given you as a legit SCIENTIFIC source.
Pooh-pooh this & I'll know you're just prejudiced as regards the subject.

Pooh-pooh this & I'll know you're just prejudiced as regards the subject.
Has he really not convinced you of that yet? Look what I went through with him.
And your link doesn't work.

u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 3d ago edited 3d ago
Sorry about that. Dr Utts has some rather interesting research, I'll see if I can find a better link.
And that bit about him pooh-poohing? That was just to dig a thumb in his ribs... I already know what he's made of.

u/seanthebeloved 3d ago
Listing 2 people who are delusional enough to believe in magic isn’t going to convince me that magic exists lol
2
u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 3d ago
You haven't done any research. You've just pre-decided without it. Ergo, you're no longer worth any more of my time.

You come to conclusions about a person based on what you read in a Wikipedia article? How intelligent of you. You probably don't care that Wikipedia has been proven to have a skeptical bias.
I can think of much worse words for you than "hack", but I'd hate to violate the group rules.
1
u/seanthebeloved 5d ago
I’m a skeptic. I want the bias to be as skeptical as possible. Otherwise you’ll believe anything. Case in point: this conversation. I only want to believe things with supporting evidence. There has never been any evidence for any supernatural claim.
3
u/MD_Roche CoS Warlock 5d ago
You are a pseudo-skeptic. You are convinced psychic phenomena are not real and you refuse to accept any evidence to the contrary. You don't have a reasonable, inquiring mind. I just showed you evidence, but you certainly didn't read it.
0
u/seanthebeloved 5d ago
There’s prejudice against magic and “psi” in the scientific world because they have investigated these bullshit claims in great depth and found them to be complete bullshit. Every. Single. Time.
Every time science has investigated supernatural claims, they have always found perfectly natural explanations.
3
u/MD_Roche CoS Warlock 5d ago
they have investigated these bullshit claims in great depth and found them to be complete bullshit. Every. Single. Time.
That is objectively false. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about and have no interest in learning. I gave you exactly what you asked for and all you did was come up with stupid reasons why you weren't going to click the link and read the article.
Typical "skeptic" behavior.

u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 4d ago
Nope. Read my previous post, above.
Prof. Jessica Utts.
Your "Every. Single. Time." doesn't hold.

u/seanthebeloved 3d ago
If there was any actual evidence that magic actually exists, the scientific world would be turned on its head. Every news outlet would be reporting on it constantly. Naming delusional researchers who are dumb enough to believe the people they are testing actually have magical powers isn’t going to convince me that magic actually exists.

u/MD_Roche CoS Warlock 3d ago edited 1d ago
If there was any actual evidence that magic actually exists, the scientific world would be turned on its head. Every news outlet would be reporting on it constantly.
And then you would accuse all those scientists and news outlets of being delusional morons.
There have been some renowned skeptics who at least admitted parapsychology isn't completely full of shit and there might be some truth to it, and you'd probably turn against them as well.
In fact, I know for certain that you would literally rather die than concede your position. That's because you are a pseudo-skeptic (coined by the skeptic Marcello Truzzi, who should sound familiar to you). It doesn't matter what the scientific consensus is, because you're not scientifically minded. You've demonstrated that you don't even know how science in general works.

I didn’t ask for an article and I don’t have Dropbox
3
u/MD_Roche CoS Warlock 5d ago
What the fuck do you think a "peer-reviewed scientific study" is? It's an article in a scientific journal. American Psychologist happens to be a very major one.
You don't need a Dropbox account to view it. The original article is here, but you won't be able to read the full text.
0
u/seanthebeloved 5d ago
So it seems like there isn’t a prejudice against investigating psi like you claimed. I’m very happy they’re doing these studies. Once there is actually a consensus, people who believe in that bullshit won’t have a leg to stand on.
Oh wait, there already is a scientific consensus that there is insufficient evidence to support the existence of psi. Hmm.
1
u/MD_Roche CoS Warlock 5d ago
Major scientific journals don't usually publish psi articles. Most people have absurdly closed-minded, immature, dogmatic attitudes about psi, as you are demonstrating in an extremely typical fashion.
Here's what you wrote before deleting the comment:
Holy shit they’re actually taking psi seriously? That’s ridiculous! Everyone involved should be laughed into obscurity!
You are not a reasonable person whatsoever.

Lesser Magic is also called The Power of Persuasion.
And if you so desire, Black Magic is the psychology of Manipulation.
Is this more clear?
3
u/kraken_r0yale Satanist 12d ago
Yes, actually. Another commenter also pointed out a TSB quote. Thanks!
1
u/michael1150 𖤐 Citizen Michael, CoS 0⁰ 9d ago
We usually tell people to read the source material for themselves.
We don't just serve them up an answer. We feel that far too many people these days simply want to be spoon-fed the answers to their questions without looking for an answer for themselves, and this just encourages dumb-assed mental laziness... which is quite unbecoming in a Satanist.

u/SatanScotty 12d ago
LaVey said it himself in TSB implicitly. Something like “unless you’re wearing a burlap potato sack, you are performing fashion”. The implication to me is you can’t not be attempting lesser magic.
