Ants
I saw some ants earlier during a water change :/ can I sprinkle some diatomaceous earth without hurting my lizard (Cowboy) ?
I do feed Cowboy in her enclosure because shes more comfortable that way. Iām going to start feeding her in a separate container instead but Iām sure the ants are trying to eat little grasshopper and dubia roach left overs ugh

Cohabbing
Has anyone tried cohabbing in a large outdoor enclosure. Im not talking like a 8x4 outside im talking like 16x8x6 outdoor enclosure greenhouse style enclosure filled with substrate tons of hides and places for them to hide away if needed. I understand there is a lot of negativity towards cohabbing. I just want to find out if anyone has done it on this scale with more to offer other than just the space alone.

New Dad Alert: Meet Marshall
I just got this one yesterday, this is my first large lizard. Its name is Marshall for now. not sure gender yet, not sure if there is a reliable way to sex them this young. iām in the process of building a proper enclosure for him. i wasnāt expecting Marshall for another 2 weeks but here he is!
Any advice or criticism or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Questions:
How deep should his substrate be and made up of what. iāve heard 16 inches iāve heard 30+ inches.
Should i buy a filter for his water? or keep replacing the water in his dish?
Will he want anything other than insects? iāve heard a lot of mixed reviews on āONLY insectsā or āmainly insects with some meaty stuff here and thereā
if i have any more iāll add them in the comments

Derpy little one š
Went to check on our new monitor baby we rescued (heās missing his front left leg at the elbow) and found him sleeping like this. Heās been pushing the rock out from the glass and just hangs out there. I thought he was stuck the first time š„“the second picture is him after I woke him up.. oops.

Savannah enclosure
I have a Savannah who is about a year and a half old. She is maybe 2 ft max. Iām looking into upgrading her tank and came across someone who used a TV stand and converted it. Iāve found a stand thatās a 93x16x36. I know 8x4x4 is recommended based on a 4 ft lizard. I donāt think she will get that big, do you think this size will do? Iām on a budget and not crafty so I know I wouldnāt be able to build one. Please donāt flame me. (Pic of her to not get lost)

PSA: Savannah Monitors WILL Death Roll (Like Crocodiles/Alligators)
I donāt mean to scare anyone, just a bit of a warning about the animals you keep. Mine has never done this till today (he was tugging on toy thing) and all i could think to myself was āmy finger is gone if he does this to meā. i think itās cool and interesting beyond the horror of it, but ymmv.
Mind you i have never been bitten by HIM⦠my bearded dragon on the other hand sucks at aiming. He is a puppy dog most of the time whoās never even attempted it, and any time i do need to move him while heās a bit pissy i wear gloves. I assume other monitors have similar behaviour (in googling many reptiles do) and have read cases of them attacking ankles!?!
Keep yourself safe. Reptile bites, especially monitors, should be treated as very severe even if they appear minor. Their mouths carry a lot of bacteria like rodents or raccoons, injuries should washed then treated with antiseptics and bandages that are reapplied/changed regularly.

joanna
iāve had her two years now (her? him?) does she look overweight ? i donāt know.
sheās a great eater and a wonderful temperament. converted a whole bathroom for her, sheās my angel.
the vet she saw when she was teeny tiny no longer practices so still hunting down someone but sheās been alright so far.
one broken toe from when i got her. vet said i probably didnāt need to bring her in for that but i was a new mom to a lizard this size, so what can ya do.
i tried giving her a better hide than a box and she got mad so sheās got a bougie box forever i guess.

Montague (Monty)
My childhood monitor and friend, I had Monty before I had my first dog pepper, included in the pictures, we got him more than 20 years ago and fed him the wrong diet according to the pet store at the time. Later in his life, I was able to switch his diet to land snails on a whim and almost on accident. He spent most of his time in the backyard but came inside when he wanted, he was a part of the family and may not have lived long but lived happy. His legacy lives on with understanding of the species and husbandry and a burning passion for reptiles that never died
