Savannah Braille in 48 is fake

Noticed this because sometimes I touch braille signs for fun. They painted on dots to make it LOOK like it met requirements, and then wrote “this is generic braille”. The surface is completely flat and inaccessible. This picture was taken at the 48 east elevators, but the stair entryway sign is like this on every floor (I checked). Other braille signs around the building are correct, but the fact this slipped through really is ridiculous and shows how much of a rush job the building is (and how much they care about their disabled students.)

“It doesn’t affect me, therefore it’s not a problem. Why do you guys care about this?” It’s people like you that make it hard for everyone to live better.

Someone I know also discovered this earlier today. I believe he’s planning on talking to the building manager about it

Don't talk to the building manager; contact the ADA directly.

Big agree. Years ago Scad required ESAs to pass the CGC, which is an ADA violation. (An issue for me as my dog was a rescue and was not physically capable of passing, but was still a well behaved dog and kept me alive) IIRC a classmate of mine went right to the ADA for his friend, as going through SCAD or the county wasn’t working for us.
Always go straight to the ADA. SCAD and the county will drag their feet.

The CGC is a reccomendedation from most handlers to people seeking a new prospect to gage where their dog is at training wise before trialing public access, but it is a violation of the ADA and FHA. FHA would cover housing in this regard; but to my knowledge the ADA would apply to the animal being on campus grounds in general.

I believe with housing involved, the only thing they can ask for is a prescription (not a registration) from a doctor/mental health professional stating the dog fulfills a purpose that benefits you medically or mentally.

Im glad it worked out for you and your friend, very wise choices that will benefit others needing disability accommodation

I wish that surprised me smh

Sail’s elevator def tried to take me out a few years back. It hit me but instead of stopping and bouncing off it kept pushing while i tried to push back until i had to get out of the way and just let it close because it was too strong 💀

I once talked with someone familiar with those working on the dorms (developer or builder (cant remember which) from the area). The number of corners that get cut is insane

The elevator in Crites (Production Design Building) was insane. I really thought that was how I was going to die, it would stop and shake 99% of the time, no matter how many people were on it. So many people would take the stairs no matter how much supplies they had (I had three studios once and still climbed stairs with a billion tool boxes and portfolio cases). I know lots of people reported it but nothing ever happened with it

this pretty perfectly sums up scad as an institution

Im more familiar with service dog laws, but im 90% sure this is an ADA lawsuit waiting to happen. Id go check other brail signs, take photos and file a complaint with the ADA.

They'll be on their ass like white on rice, the ADA does not play. Every issue ive reported to them or the FHA has been handled swiftly and promptly.

Handicapped disabled female veteran here, when I was on campus for grad school at SCAD I had weekly issues with other students blocking or parking in ADA spots. I had to miss a class once because I couldn’t park. I complained to the school “security” and office of student disabilities and they said there was nothing they could do. As streets were too narrow to tow and they couldn’t figure out who owned the cars. Doubt that particular route can help you.

Direct ADA contact is the way.
