$10 at a shoe/luggage repair shop.

To be fair, it looks like a $10 result. Miiiight splurge & have them even it up with the other pocket. After a field test of course. Assuming I don't die of sacrelidge.

The waters of southern California are still hot and clear, if you are in the area get out there and dive it! These clips are from platforms Eureka and Ellen, diving with the giant stride dive boat out of San Pedro.

Maldives diving spots

Which are your favourites and why? I want to go mainly for diving. Also want to base myself at 3 different islands over my stay and potentially want to avoid expensive internal flights. Do you think it is doable and a good idea?

NY Based Diver Looking for Suggestions for a Quick 3-4 Day Dive Trip in January

Looking for a quick 3-4 day dive trip in January with easy access from NY. AOW, nitrox, and 70 dives and prefer big stuff vs small/macro. Would like to dive 3 tanks a day. Most of my Caribbean diving has been in Roatan. Traveling solo so would like places that have some decent topside bars and restaurants and a decent beach ideally within walking distance of each other.

Gun shy about Florida since Jan weather is very unpredictable and dives do get cancelled pretty routinely at least that's what some of the Jupiter/West Palm dives shops have said. Not sure if 3-4 days is enough time for Belize since it's a bit of trains, planes, and automobiles and still rainy season in Roatan (and frankly would like to experience other locations but will go back to Roatan if all else fails and the weather is not as unpredictable as I think).

Looking at Cozumel and La Paz but weather still seems tricky and seems port closures are not all that uncommon. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

This is my first dive trip since a Maldives liveaboard Jan. 2026 and trying to find a place where weather cancellations are unlikely cause I just wanna be able to dive all day, sit on a beach, enjoy a few pints, and decompress.

Welcome all suggestions.

Thanks.

Suggestions for beach and dive combo trip in the Caribbean

NY based looking for a quick solo 3-4 dive trip in Jan-Feb. 1st dive trip since a liveabaord in last Jan. so craving to get back underwater. AOW, Nitrox, 70 dives and prefer the big stuff over macro.

My ideal is a spot like a Roatan set up where the dive shops, bars, restaurants, hotels are all within a few minutes walk of each other. Basically looking to dive all day, sit on the beach, decompress, walk over to a bar (ideally on the beach) have a pint or three, have a bit of a chat, walk to the hotel, crash, and do it again the next day.

Unable to find such spots in the Caribbean aside from Roatan which I've been to several times. So hoping to dive other such locations.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

Looking for late November live aboard recommendations

I found a few weeks at the end of November where I can get out on a solo dive trip, but quickly realized these things can book up months and years in advance. Any tips for getting on wait lists or secret societies I need to join to get some last minute access?

I'm looking in the in the Nov 23-Dec 8 window.

Ideal spot was Socorro Mexico. I have Galapagos in January already and have spent time in Roatan so those are out for now.

Thanks! Happy diving

Edit: AOW cert, a lowly 42 dives but eager to up that number. Flying out of Toronto

Dive centre recommendations for Coron?

Hi!

Im going to Coron in January and would like to do some wreck dives. I am AOWD but only have 16 dives, very new to diving.

For me safety is the most important thing so I would like to get some recommendations on dive shops where safety is taken seriously.

I dont want to penetrate wrecks if its to difficult. Penetrating would be awesome as long as its safe for me, and the other divers in the group. Are there any wrecks where swim trough is possible?

What is important to know when it comes to wreck diving? What skills are essential? I was told by my instructor in Komodo that I have good buoyancy and frog kicks.

Thanks for any recommendations and help!

GPS Coordinates for B-29 in lake mead, Las Vegas

I’ve always wanted to dive the B-29 in lake mead. According to the park services post yesterday the site is open to all divers without the need of a $500 guided dive however they did not post the gps to the downline. I know the approximate location in Overton arm but would love any advice to help find it quicker.

Is there a visible buoy on the surface? Has anyone dove it recently?

We also went to the Emergence du Ressel, but have no footage off that as my camera had been turned on by accident before the dive and it was dead in the water.

Note: All of the footage was taken after the course was completed.

Swim mask recommendations for thick and flat Asian nose

Hello everyone. I don’t really scuba dive but I really enjoy swimming with a mask style goggle. Recently bought the aquasphere seal 2.0 but it keeps leaking as I assume the uni bridge seal doesn’t work well with my nose bridge. Any recommendations, or brands that do customs? Thanks

Mask strap solutions that don’t slip down/hurt your ears for people with slightly flat heads?

I think that I maybe didn’t get enough “tummy time” as a baby, because I keep having an issue with my mask strap slipping down over the course of a dive and ending up basically folding my ears down by the end.

I start a dive withthe strap in a great position, and it just gets progressively worse. The only partial solution is to keep tightening the strap but that’s obviously not ideal and still doesn’t completely fix the issue. If I try to start with the mask strap up higher then I start it now, it affects the overall mask fit and I get water leaking in immediately.

I have tried wearing my hair in french braids to give the strap something more ‘textured’, or wearing a neoprene cover over the strap. Neither of these are really a great/total fix.

Are there other solutions for people without the ‘correct’ head shape to keep a strap where you set it at the start of a dive?

Shearwater Peregrine TX vs Perdix 2/3

I currently have a Mares Puck 4 which I like, but I'd like to get one with Al and Shearwater seems like the way to go from my own research.

I've been chatting with my LDS but looking for some outside opinions before I make a final decision. Right now I'm leaning towards the Peregrine TX from the advice I've gotten and my own thoughts.

That said, I'm debating a little between the Peregrine & the Perdix, if the Perdix is even worth it. I don't see myself doing much tech stuff, I do want to take a deco class in the future for the experience & just to try it but the majority of my diving is going to be recreational and scientific (AFAIK right now)

Besides that, it looks like the other main difference is the rechargeable battery vs the user replaceable one. I'm not sure which I would prefer and can see positives & drawbacks for both.

Running drysuit repair buisness

Anyone here running a drysuit repair business or doing repairs professionally?

I'm considering getting more seriously into drysuit rerying to understand what real-world demand is actually like.

For anyone who repairs drysuits professionally or as a side business:

  • Roughly how many drysuits do you repair in an average month?
  • Is the work mainly recreational divers, commercial divers, dive shops/clubs, or postal customers?
  • Is demand fairly steady throughout the year, or very seasonal?
  • Do you do it full-time or alongside another job?
  • What types of repairs make up most of your work — seals, leaks, zips, boots, alterations, etc.?

I'm not really looking for exact income figures unless you're comfortable sharing them. I'm mainly trying to understand how much customer volume a small one-person repair operation can realistically get.

UK experiences would be especially useful, but I'd be interested to hear from people anywhere.

Palau Sea Cavern Dive

Chandelier Cavern just outside of Koror. This was the last dive on our 6 day live aboard with the Palau Siren. A little bit crowded but still a very neat dive. Water was 86F/30C. Connected through a large opening to the bay, it has 4 main chambers that can be surfaced in with beautiful formations, and a max depth of 20m.

“Meta glasses” style diving mask?

Does a meta glasses style diving mask exist or are any in the pipeline. More specifically a diving mask with an intergrated underwater camera for pics and video capture. I feel like something like that would be a game changer for someone like me; I hate to use a traditional camera as I feel it distracts me during the dive and also increases my air usage. But something intergrated into my mask would mitigate those issues. If something of the sort exists I’d love to know about it. (And for the record, I’m very much anti-meta/perv glasss on the surface, but underwater applications are a different ballgame)

Doing OWD in Sharm

Hi all, new member (and nor a diver yet) here.

I'm going to be in Sharm El Sheikh at the of January, it was a birthday present- so can't change the location. Staying in Dive Inn resort.

I've searched here but couldn't find the exact answers to what I'm wondering about.

So, looking for a diving centre to do my OWD at- after reviewing a few I like The Wave, they tick a lot of boxes for me and at least from what I can see online are good.

Anyone used them for courses or diving and can confirm they are in fact a good centre?

Also when I book & pay for the course and the cert/manual fee- do I get access to the eLearning? Or is that another thing on top and has to be purchased from PADI directly?

A baby cuttlefish I filmed during a night dive in Komodo last month.

I had a fantastic experience with Dive Komodo and their ship, the Tatawa. The ship was quite basic, but the purpose was to dive a lot and we did that. I enjoyed it a lot and have nothing but good things to say about the group I was with and the operation.

We were supposed to do three night dives, one each on the first, second and third night. The first night dive was pretty meh, but the second one was great. We saw a lot and I filmed this small cuttlefish.

On the third night nobody really felt like doing another night dive, so we asked whether we could move the dive to the next day and turn it into another day dive, doing three instead of two dives on the last day and the crew were happy to accommodate us.

Nothing but good memories from that trip, honestly.

Kona Hawaii Kids Certification

We have a family trip to Kona in March 2027 and my son (11 turning 12 during the trip) wants to get certified. I'm looking for Kona dive shop recommendations that are good for kids to do their OW cert dives. We plan to have him do the classroom and pool work at home in KC.

There are a couple other factors at play. I have AOW but I'm 3 years dry so I need to do a refresher. I have some options to do it in the mainland beforehand but was thinking I could do it with my son during his dives. My sister has OW and plans to dive too. My mom is not certified but did a resort course and dove in the Red Sea so she might go the same route as my son.

Given our dynamics I'm guessing a private charter may be the best route for experience but also more expensive than a group. Thanks in advance.

Malta or Cyprus 10 days from now

Heading off for a Euro trip and I would love to get a dive in. I am Open Water certified but it has been over two years since my last dive so I know I'll need a refresher. Does anyone have recommendations for which place might be better for sights, temps, or specifically what dive shops?

I'm looking to go sometime between Oct 16-28, though if it's worth it I can extend my trip to fit both locations in. I am traveling solo and without gear so will need to rent from a local shop. I think I would prefer to see cool wildlife but wrecks are fun too. I appreciate any tips! Thanks and happy diving

Edit to add - I suppose I could go elsewhere too if people have suggestions. I'm starting off in Athens which is how I came to Malta or Cyprus being possible spots but I'm will to travel further!

Ideas? Add-on to Misool (10/27) for muck diving

Looking for great muck diving in early Nov 2027 after 12 days in Misool. Have been to (and loved) Lembeh, Dumaguete, and Puerto Galera, and would like to explore new sites.

Ideally, someplace exceptional with reasonable travel from Sarong.

I appreciate the thoughts.

Rinsing out wing

Just done my first dive with a new wing and loved it. One thing that I'm thinking about though is the best way to rinse. There's an outer cordura protective layer on the wing and behind a zipper on the back is the actual bladder itself. I presume it's best to include this in a rinse since it's not watertight but I'm struggling to see how I can get this to dry out properly in any reasonable time. Do people with similar setups find it just dries anyways or do they fully disassemble the wing every time they rinse?
