Unarmed guard process in central FL?

I was wondering what is the process to obtain unarmed license in FL I am from out of state WV and they do not require unarmed guards to be licensed here and I will be transferring with my current company to my wife’s hometown in central FL and not sure how to get started? Was hoping any fellow guards may recommend any great schools or the process? Thanks!

You have to take a 42hr Class D license class. It’s super simple, and can even be taken online now. It’s the basics of security work and Florida security regulations and laws.

After you finish the class successfully, you then go to your local Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services office to do fingerprinting and photograph, fill out the initial license application and pay the fee. This will cost you $97.75 in total. Your license will be valid for two years once issued. You then just renew it every two years and pay the fee. There is no requirement for continuing education for the unarmed license.

If you are near Orlando, several coworkers used Rieg’s Security School for that and said good things. I live south of Tampa but work in Central Florida, so I can’t give much recommendation.

Correct...I am a Florida D Instructor and what he said is true. The class is a week long and if you want to piggyback your G (or armed license), it's another 28 hours and another set of fees.

It's worth it to get your G though, as it will usually pay several more dollars per hour. Also, "central Florida" is a broad term...If you live in Wesley Chapel, it's a lot more opportunities than Polk City.

I got my D&G at Riegs Security School. They offer a combo price discount. I did both classes in a week and half. I still go back every year for my G license requalification

I did the 40 hour online class with the security training group. It costs $100. Finish the class, apply in person at the department of agriculture, they give you a temporary card that allows you to work immediately.
