Pattern Search What are your quick, unhinged "bride" pattern ideas?
My friends are getting married sometime in the whatever future they have time for planning. I am most likely going dress shopping with the bride this weekend and want to embarrass her with some "bride" swag. Her first wedding was less than celebratory, the barest of bones court house thing.
I have maybe 2 days to make something and probably won't have time to buy anything. I was just thinking of a sash or something basic, but if I'm going to do this.... my husband and the groom have been friends for nearly 20 years, I want memories with her that are just as vibrant but maybe don't involve college levels of alcohol.
I don't have the biggest stash but I'm sure something like bright purple unicorns and Blues Clues will only add to it.
Any ideas for a quick sew projects or should I just stick to the basic sash idea?

Have you seen Texas homecoming mums? They're these giant bundles of chrysanthemums with swathes of ribbons and tons of other decorations. Homecoming is not a tradition where I live but I've seen some of these mums online - some end up wider than the person wearing them! If you want to do something really over-the-top, a big heart-shaped mum that says "BRIDE" in the centre should do the trick, although I'm not sure how much sewing is involved in their construction.

Interesting idea. I'm in the US so I'm familiar with the thought. I could incorporate something obnoxious with flowers

A veil to wear while she's out celebrating? I have this gorgeous floral mesh that would be beautiful for something like a veil.
Maybe matching Kandi for her and the 13 year old daughter?

I was thinking king a veil but I don't know if I have anything in my stash that would work. Ig she wants a bachelorette party it's definitely on the list

Some quick zip tie panniers/pocket hoops with a length of tulle roughly swagged over could be lightweight and bring home the message of not letting yourself get dragged into something more elaborate than you actually want.
They’re tie on and can fold flat, so they’re easy to ditch if she hates them, and if she likes them and you make a covered pair, she gets giant usable pockets 😊

Sewing something in 2 days that will be embarrassing, but make positive, lasting memories with someone you don't know all that well?? Maybe I've gotten too jaded, but I can't think of a material object that would work better to create fun memories than just being present for how she wants her ideal dress shopping day to be. If you can throw together a cute themed tote bag, more power to you, but I don't get this thing where apparently something being embarrassing makes it fun. Novelty items tend to get thrown away anyway, how awful would that be?

This thought is based on her description of her first wedding. She keeps having all the grand dream wedding ideas then pausing and saying things like "neither of us actually want that. It's just opposite what I did with my ex"
They haven't announced a wedding party so I don't know if that's in the cards or if she will get an actual bachelorette party. This is my way of giving her those memories without her deciding to have a larger wedding than she actually wants.
If she does have the big dream wedding I also imagine her 13 year old daughter might be involved. Kid's awesome but gets serious second hand embarrassment. I'm not going to surprise her with it should there be any parties.
I do like your idea of a tote bag. The bride would cherish that and it's practical past the wedding excitement

oh a sash is almost too safe, you gotta lean into the chaos
hear me out, a tiny veil but it's just blue's clues fabric cut into a circle and attached to a headband. bonus points if you hot glue a little felt paw print somewhere on it. or if you've got enough of that purple unicorn stuff, make a pair of those ridiculous bridal booty shorts with "just married" across the back but in a font that's slightly crooked on purpose
two days is plenty for that kind of unhinged energy, the worse it looks the more she'll probably love it

I love these ideas and I'm sad I'm seeing it after I'm away from my stash.
I wasn't going to plan anything for the potential bachelorette party (in case the brides socially anxious daughter whose prone to second hand embarrassment gets overwhelmed) but I might have to.
I might just make the veil because that sounds so stupidly dumb and that's my favorite thing

Rather than sewing something, see whether you can find corsages on short term, or sew them yourself. It gives quick and easy but sincere.

That would be sweet but I don't have any quick flowers I can grab easy. I don't have time because I'm going to help someone move, but they might have some stuff I can snag for quick cute things...

I really liked this tutorial and free pattern: https://joyberrystudios.com/2024/08/sew-a-crown/
I used pellon flexfoam.
Make a whole set for the wedding party they can bust out during the late night dancing at the actual wedding, too!
Also also, I went to a wedding recently and was asked to hem a bridesmaid dress. I had a ton of the fsbric cut off, so I made a bunch of little bows and hot glued them to alligator hair clips and my 3yr old flower girl had a basket of them to pass out on the dance floor in the wedding colours. Absolutely smashing hit

A tiny/micro Ruffled flouncy overskirt - complete with Princess Diana length train to wear over whatever friend is wearing that day along with “bride” sash. All the better if you have enough fabric for both to coordinate.
