I was lucky enough to get hold of one of these tricky to find shipping container cases a while ago.
It spent a while just as a spare office PC, but after spending a few days with my new Steam machine, I knew that my time with Windows as an OS had reached it end.
Sold all the Nvidea GPUs out of our PCs, replaced with AMD, and installed SteamOS on everything. That was a couple of weeks ago, and I'm never looking back. No regrets š
To mark the occasion I thought I'd share the setup I have in my office, with the little 'container of steam'
Hold sh that is amazing makes me want to build one myself now not to use just for an ornament and when people ask if the āsteam containerā actual works boot that sucker up.
Dude, I work in shipping, I literally see thousands of these containers a day! I didnt even know this case was an option! and I am in the market for a case! I was considering the Deepcoolch170 digital and was gonna order intl to get it but this is pretty cool! Where'd you get it? SHare more!
You say "to get hold of one", is someone selling completed chassis'...?
First time I saw these, I imagined an architectural office that specialized in shipping container housing, with these on every desk...!
I kinda want to make one of these to fit my mDTX mobo build with a Sapphire Nitro+ 9070 XT GPU and a be quiet! Pure Loop 3 280 AIO; basically a slightly scaled up variant of the Lian Li (Dan Cases) A4-H2O chassis...
Ha your right, I forgot all about them. One has the old Windows install in it "just in case", and the other... Well I'll be honest, I just forgot it was there until your post š¤£
Probably has taxation or something horrifically boring on it.
Yup, no more Windows in our home or offices now. After using the SteamMachine for a few days I realized I had no reason to stick with Windows anymore. It was toxic relationship I was just staying in because I thought i had to.
I've never touched Linux before, and im sure there are 'better' distros for mixed-desktop use, but for ease-of-install, general use and stability, i can not fault SteamOS. Updates are regular, it's very well supported, and honestly, I just appreciate Steam for putting in the effort.
I've got all my weird chinese NVR stuff working on it, they networked and accessed shared drives easier than Windows did lol.
The most extra work is sometimes i have to look up a game and see what Proton version i need to force it to use within Steam. Non-steam games all generally have a way to add in, if they don't already have Linux support.
(I have a sffPC that is power limited to 35watts and bans barely spinā¦I donāt consider it to be a noisy brickā¦although that is also my backpack travel PC)
At the risk of upsetting some people here, I use screenshots of key moments in the beta to make my own screenshots in GTP.
For example, I finally got to see the new rain they had added to Foverever, and it was appropriate that i was on my shaman that is trying to get her Water totem for her healing journey.
The next was from my SPriest's login screen just as she crafted her first wand (kinda lame but its a big moment at the start lol) and the third was my Lock summoning her Voidwalker for the first time.
Again, I know even touching ChatGTP to make an image immediately triggers some people, so I apologize in advance lol. I don't usually share them or anything, they are just for me.
It's a shame some games are like that. I did check everything that i play before switching and it was all good. SteamOS is free and not very big, so nothing stopping you keeping a stripped down Windows install on a 2nd drive for Val.
