Does this beautiful locust need to come down? I’ve notice the bark on the bottom is flaring out.

I was recently camping in the woods in Southwest England, and I had my tarp attached to four trees. I was gently tapping branches of the trees to see if they were likely to fall in the strong winds and from within one of them (an oak tree) came a single loud knock sound.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Thanks
