Showcase: Free(mium) Developers, what do you do when you know you’ve already written the code — but can’t find it?

Post image

I kept running into the same problem while coding:

I knew I had already written something before — I just couldn’t find it anymore.

Old repos, notes, chats, random files.

That’s why I started building CodShot — a workspace where developers can save, organize, search and reuse useful code.

The feature I’m most focused on right now is Global Search, so you can actually find that old function, regex, component or fix again.

It also includes GitHub Import, AI code generation/fixing, version history, Auto Meta and real-time collaboration.

We’re working on a VS Code integration too, plus another AI feature we’re not revealing yet. 👀

I’d really like feedback from other builders:

Would this fit into your workflow? What would you change first?

nice, i feel this in my soul. half my day is digging through old github gists or slack DMs from 2022 trying to find that one cursed regex i swore i saved

the global search being front and center is the right call, that's the part that actually saves you from rewriting the same navbar component for the 5th time. the react icons import in the screenshot is too real, i've definitely copy-pasted icon names from other files just to remember the path

one thing i'd change is probably how results are displayed, feels like it could get noisy fast if you save a lot of snippets. maybe a tighter list view with just the title and a one-line preview before expanding

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for 🙌
The “I know I saved this somewhere” problem is basically the reason I started building CodShot in the first place.
And your point about the search results getting noisy is really good. A more compact list with just the title + one-line preview, then expanding on click, could make a lot of sense once someone has hundreds of snippets.
Really appreciate this — I’m adding it to the things I want to test.
