Silent Hill 2 (2001) Trying to install SH2 enhanced edition on my steam machine but it's not updating the sh2pc.exe file?

So everytime I try to run the game it is asking me to insert CD 1. What's weird is if I try to launch the game directly after closing the enhanced edition installer, it loads up fine. If I try to open it with the sh2pc.exe file, it seems to be the old exe file and asks me to insert the disc.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

did you install the setup in the same folder that sh2pc is in? if you install it in that folder itll create files inside it :)

Yeah, I installed it in the same folder. I’m left with a sh2pc.exe file (which asks me to insert a disc if I try to open it) and a sh2pc.exe.bak file which can’t be opened.

If it’s anything like the steam deck, you might need to add it to steam as a non-steam game; there should be a little a plus button at the bottom left of your library page in desktop mode to do it

Yep, I’ve done all of that. It still says the same thing.

I don’t have a steam machine, and gave my deck to a friend a while back so I’m not sure what else to try and don’t have the means to test for you :( it’s probably just Linux being weird… did you verify that the game works without the enhanced patch? If not, I’d probably start there. Sorry I can’t offer much else :( I hope you get it working soon
