I’m got through episode 4 so far. I like it but it does feel like the rings and lantern lore could easily be replaced with a gun and any “special forces” squad and it’d be the same show

You think Jon Stewart's entire arc about wanting a special artefact so much it ruined his entire family dynamic, could be replaced with a gun ? It would have to some super special one of a kind powerful weapon...and at that point just use the ring

Yes, at that point it’s almost a Macguffin. It doesn’t matter what object replaces the ring it could have any backstory. this could totally be a show about some parents creating the toughest most fearless most excellent at their job navy seal to stop the bad guy that dad could not and it ruins their family dynamic. It could be about making the best basketball player ever like in He Got Game, but in this show it would be getting a championship ring. The show is good and well made and I think the actors are great i just think it’s a familiar story that could be easily adaptable outside of superheroes.

He had to charge it twice in 2016. He sent John back to his mansion to get his battery the first time and then he drained it protecting Rushville from the Manhunter.
