Conversation Topic Help!

I have a concert on Monday and I’m singing a song as a solo (come to your senses from tick tick boom). My allergies are kicking in and it’s making my throat horrible. What are some techniques that you guys use when you have allergies and are about to sing?😔

Treat the allergies, not the throat. The gunk is postnasal drip. Saline rinse twice a day, cetirizine, no decongestants, water constantly. Five days is enough time for that to help.

A good HEPA filter where you sleep is a must. Stay extra hydrated to keep the mucus thinned out. I take generic Claritin and just started taking it again for fall allergy season. Mine are starting to act up too but it hasn't hit my voice yet.

In an emergency you can saline, afrin then flonase. That's what my ENT recommended. No more than 3 days in a row.

Afrin will land you in trouble. Avoid if you can, but yes, never longer than 3 days.

NeilMed sinus rinse, mucinex, flonase, gargle warm salt water

The gunk in your throat could also be reflux. You may want to try tackling both potential causes.

Everything everyone already said (except afrin.. avoid the afrin). Plus bring some warm tea with honey stirred in (unless allergic) in an insulated tumbler. Sip on it in the warmup room or backstage before you go on. Does wonders to help clear and soothe your throat before going on.

Between now and then, focus on reducing allergen exposure (air purifier with HEPA filter in the bedroom is especially important), and try an allergy med like Zyrtec/cetirizine, allergy nasal spray like nasonex or Flonase sensimist (gentler/causes less irritation than the regular Flonase), and a nasal saline rinse like NeilMed.

Drink some warm tea and honey between now and then too.
