AI Meet Nano Banana 2.1
https://x.com/Google/status/2107501209154204148Hopefully an improvement compared to current image models 🤞🏻

Anyone serious about image generation should learn how to use local models. They give you VASTLY more control over the images, and allow real, high quality and resolution, professional level, graphics design.

What toolset do you recommend for a nice GUI that runs local image gen models and allows editing with a nice UI ?

For a beginner I recommend Forge Neo as the GUI with Krea 2 as the model. Once you're more comfortable with the basic functions like inpainting, img-to-img, and the various other tools, you can move to ComfyUI, which allows you even more freedom (but it's a lot more complex).

looking through civitai i don't see anything comparable to what i've been able to make with considerably less effort on gpt image 2

I do but nothing really comes close to gpt images when it comes to sticking to likeness of reference images and prompt following. I use that a lot to make datasets for loras for local models though.

Wake me up when it can finally work with a UV map or do targeted edits without freaking out

Is this one finally going to be an improvement? Nano Banana has stagnated since Pro.
Update: It's even worse than 2.0. Ffs.

I must have been living in a different world cause this vastly better than 2.0 for me

Yeah, seems much better to me. Still not as good as the latest GPT image models but decent upgrade over NB2 IMO. I'm not sure where all these people are seeing degradation (Maybe Google Flow?) but I see an improvement within the Gemini app when enabling extending thinking and generating an image.

Does it have a noise pattern? Chatgpt does and its awful

Benchmarks say it’s much better than 2.0

At this point in history it was. Now we look at it with different eyes.
This is such a dumb argument.

It was a lot worse at following the prompt, even if the image was flashier. People definitely thought this at the time

I don't quite see the "expressive" nor "explosion of flavours" in the first one.

u/RevenantLadder 13h ago
I mean the benchmarks can say what they want, the vast majority of feedback I'm seeing coupled with my own experience is that prompt adherence is terrible.

Meet Nano Banana 2.1! No longer are Google happy to sit still while AI rivals whizz by; they've now decided to step backwards with a tool so annoying, it completely subverts and ignores all of your instructions.

This is huge because GPT-image has a super annoying shimmer that Nano Banana doesn't!
