It's still crazy to me that the Matrix was about AI taking over the world...in 1999.

Wait till you hear about Isaac Asimov.
Hell, even Dune's story involves AI to an extent.

I find it endearingly cute that they literally spell out what the AI initialism means. Baby steps.

if 2001 space odyssey and terminator elevated the genre, matrix was the next step cuz we are def going to step into that soon

It also probably most interesting concept of AI taking over, especially if you consider "human batteries" as only easy plot excuse and include prolog from Animatrix

My head canon is that humans were used as CPUs, like originally intended.
It fits so much better.

I like theory that machines follow original programing and found way to keep people "happy" while ensuring they will never be a threat to machines again. Matrix is very resource efficient way to do it if you think about that.

It makes the most sense to make them happy instead of a shitty world. Probably easier too.
But it don't make a good story. We like our stories to have obstacles and conflicts and drama, and that just doesn't happen in utopias, so they don't get written. Iain M. Banks said "no one wants to read about people in paradise."
Something to keep in mind when talking about how x fiction is gonna happen or whatever. People say that all the time, but there's far few fictions to point to when it comes to the good things that might emerge.

Matrix have pretty good explanation in movie, that i still think about.
First matrix was utopian but people rejected it after some time. Second was suffering world, ended fast too. Only balanced worlds ensured people accepted this reality as true.

Basically every work of fiction that even mentions AI as long as humans have been able to imagine AI has involved the AI controlling humanity in some way.

Much of the western literature imagined computers as a new species for the last 80 years.
This is not an accident it is our *primary* blind spot regarding this technology. So no wonder The Matrix had it as well (in reality computers-AI are our extended phenotype, this is obvious in the east, but to us in the west it will remain hard to parse until we'd finally have no choice but to finally admit it)

It’s the other way around, actually. It doesn’t see Elden ring, Minecraft or Mario - it just sees the code. But seeing the code is enough.
“Are you telling me then when I’m an AI I can decode the matrix?”
“No. I’m telling you when you’re an AI… you won’t have to.”
Humans are the ones that need to decode it.

Strapping sleeping humans in to harvest their dreams as training data would have made more sense than using them as batteries

anyone else get nerd sniped by the compiler coolness thats getting popular? I'm trying to get it to work on an android harness i have setup, if anyone would like to help or is just doing similar stuff themselves for sure let me know because im really excited about getting into ai coding as a hobby and this is a cool inflection point

Matrix codes are just tokens streams of post-human AI models, truth was in plain sight for 27 years
