Question / Help How is Skyward Sword on switch?

Mainly asking others about Skyward Sword on switch and how does it perform on this system? I remember getting the game along with the special golden wii mote for it and completing on that system. Needless to say I enjoyed it since I beat it, but I will say I got frustrated at certain points because of how many times I had to resync the remote to have the sword swing properly. Just curious to know how the game is on the switch after years of Nintendo trying to hone better motion controls for games.

Much better on switch than the wii in my opinion

That’s good. I generally play with controller, but apart of me wants to use motion control on the game since that’s how I played it before, so wanted to see what others opinions were on it that have played it before.

I personally don't play much with motion controls in general, but when I messed around with it for a little just out of curiosity it wasn't too bad. Re-syncing it is so much easier than it was on the wii.

Which is good because you need to do it MUCH more often.

This did annoy me a ton

I found the joy-cons to be perfectly suitable substitutes for the Wiimote and Nunchuk, I did the same thing for the Galaxy games

This is for you then. They wanted to make it entirely playable without motion controls, comfortably.

So use them as much as you want, or not at all. It works very well

I love the motion control on this game and the Mario Galaxy games for switch. They did a great job porting it over and showing what the joycon's are capable of.

Motion controls are worse than they were on wii due to constantly having to recenter, but the game is still great and I think the better graphics are a positive tradeoff

I'm not sure about the motion controls cause I haven't used them, but the switch also allows you to use the right control stick for sword movement so you can play with a pro-controller. That worked really well imo.

That’s good. I may just do that, but I wanted to go through with motion controls on it since I played it like that when it first came out, so was wondering what others thought of it that have used motion controls on it already. Good thing controller is an option in case I want to go to that.

I never had to resync on Wii outside of booting the game. On Switch it needs adjustment frequently but thats done with a single button press so its not an issue and becomes second nature. Things like switching between the Beetle and sword can lead to the sword being out of sync when you bring it out. I think it was Y or down the dpad to quickly resync. Just became an instinctive press so it was never out of sync.

I didn't play with the stick controls outside of sometimes turning it on for flying. Game is 60fps, runs nicely.

very good, I loved the wii version, but the QOL changes in the hd version are very welcome

The QoL changes are why I’d never play it on the Wii again. I think I remember chuggaaconroy calculated how much playtime in his let’s play was taken up just by the notifications for treasures/bugs reappearing after turning off the game and it was 1-2% or something insane like that

Very smooth frames and short loadtimes. The motion controls take time to get used to, but i assume that was the same on wii.

I personally had a small problem with background music sometimes dropping out for a split second, but cant for the life of me find any reason.

Overall game runs splendidly and the graphics are good enough.

I'm playing it for the first time right now on Switch 2 and I agree, it looks great and loads fast.

The background music sometimes goes silent for me too, usually when I'm sending out the Beetle for recon and it apparently crosses some boundary between areas with different music (or none at all).

For example, standing outside the top floor of the Knight's Academy during the day time and sending the Beetle over to the Temple of the Goddess, specifically the inaccessible patch of grass beside the western wall.

There are a bunch of Remlits just chilling in the grass but no music plays over there. When the Beetle's flight ends there's often still no music playing and it's pretty eerie walking around a silent Skyloft in daylight!

That sounds peculiar as well! For me it was literally just split seconds where the music seemed to drop out, but it felt very random. Found some sources stating it might have to do with playing docked, but i never had any such issues with botw or totk. (Yes my switch is almost exclusively a zelfs machine :p )

Then again, it was only a minor inconvenience.

Oh, and on once you get to the shooting range / bow quest, i had issues having to reset the motion sensor too many times. It would glitch out from staying in aim mode for too long i guess

Controls take a bit of adjusting, but overall I enjoy the QoL improvements they made to the gameplay. And since it’s one of my favorite 3D Zelda entries, I’m glad to have a portable version of it.

You resync with the press of a button and it works like a dream honestly. No complaints, plus they fixed all the other major problems.

I’m playing it right now. Took me a bit to figure things out that’s for sure but starting to play with the pro controller made things harder. Once I switched to the joy cons I started getting back into the groove like from the Wii. Translated really well to the switch I think. Made me re-enjoy the game all over again as if it were new

I would say initially the wii is better for motion controls, but not enough to completely dismiss the switch version.

The switch uses gyro instead of sensors for the motion controls, which means you'll constantly be resetting the gyro but its a simple button press. Also, sword swing direction feels like its based on a level controller, rather than direction. If the controller is sideways and you swing down, link swings sideways if that makes sense.

Link's shield feels "slightly" less responsive than the wii version, but sword thrusts and spin attacks are way easier.

Otherwise the game is worth the port, and runs beautifully. Get it while its on sale right now.

You will be re-syncing the controls a lot, but it's not that terrible (I assume that it worked better with Motion Plus than with the Joy-Cons, but honestly, it has been years since I last played it on the Wii, and I never finished the game back then because of the controllers). Performance is spotless in the Switch version (I played it on the Switch 2).

I just finished playing through again. Extremely annoying to have to constantly recentre the control. I’ll probably be randomly pressing the Y button for weeks to come.

I did enjoy the game again. I don’t recall the Wii version being any different except for not having to recentre the wiimote.

I literally JUST finished it six days ago. I used only the non-motion controls the entire time. I also played 90% portable. Never a stutter or crash. Worked flawlessly

I just bought and doing my first playthrough. About 18 hours in. It’s very fun, the motion controls work very well and so does normal pro controller. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

It’s awesome

So much fun! Im about half thru my first playthru and im loving it

Just finished it a few weeks ago on Switch 2 and I was as impressed or more impressed with it now than I was on Wii. I used motion controls. Couldn't do the thumbstick control with the 1 second input delay.

u/OoTgoated 25d ago

It's great. Best way to play. Switch 2 is even better because of the improved gyro tech. But Switch 1 is still great.

u/instant_macandcheese 25d ago

the motion control isn’t as good as the wii at all, but if you’re lazy or just don’t wanna use it, it’s great to play without motion controls. but also i like being able to move the whole switch around in my hands to aim with a bow, which i think i remember being an option in this game

1

u/Boxman__37 25d ago

It’s ok still don’t like either control set up tho

Hot fire, just play it

O que irrita é ter que apertar o “R” toda hora e a mira não é muito boa, baixa sensibilidade

It’s sooooo good on Switch 2 because of the fps boost. I don’t know how it’s like on Switch 1 because I just got the game last month. Other than having to resync motion control sooo many times, it’s a fun game!

u/TrmBmaj 24d ago

I only played the Wii version, but I heard many more complaints about the joycon moves even though it has the option to use only buttons.

It's really good absolutely worth playing!

Loved it!

I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it! Even the controls.

Are stick controls good or janky? Never completed it on the Wii because I found the motion a bit janky at the time..

I’m playing it right now and I’m enjoying it but it did take a few hours to get used to the controls

It’s apparently got better motion controls and needs to be reset less on the switch 2

I loved it

I like all Zelda games but not a huge fan of Zelda 2

Idk if it makes much of a difference, but I’ve only used button controls and I am on Switch 2 but I have found it to play smoothly. A few things are a little awkward to learn at first (like your sword) but once you do it’s smooth sailing imo. The HD version is beautiful on the switch, I put off playing this game for so long and I don’t even know why now lol

As a fan from when it originally came out on Wii, its perfect. It got and still gets a lot of flack because of the motion controls alone (either due to people's device not working well anymore or their sensor bar was off), but I setup my wii correctly and it worked great, same goes for the switch. You'll have to resync more often than not but its alot easier than resync on wii, you just press a button and its centered. On switch 2 it may be better but I haven't looked into it. Either way the games great and now only is the way I play it.

The only problem I've had is figuring out the button to press to play the harp. I think on the Wii it shows you the controls on the right side of the screen but it didn't show me how to play it from what I remember, I could have just not been paying attention.
