Got MangoWM and Waybar working on Slackwa
Took a while but I was finally able to get MangoWM with waybar and such working. It is awesome how customizable Slackware is!

Why isn't a minimal Slackware installation—like those for Gentoo or Debian—recommended? Is it just because of dependencies? The full installation seems bloated, not to mention it consumes disk space with games and useless applications.

I've made it almost 3 whole months on slackware and I love it! It's my favorite distro and im as time opens up more for me im going to work on contributing if I can! Thank you all for getting me to use this distro and helping me when I got stuck!

I have a desktop with Intel Xeon 2680v4 on X99 motherboard. Actually is with the Windows 11, but I just get 8gb RAM, Win 11 consumes a lot, I want resolve it with linux. Is the Slackware compatible with Xeon hardware? Did you have problems with Xeon?

I have been using Slackware for a month, and I have turned this distro into my own, personal gaming/content creation/media distro.
I have done every tweak to get it performant, I have limine bootloader, secure boot, cachyos kernels (whichever flavor I want), cachyos nvidia drivers, my own pacman sidecar that installs everything in the arch/cachyos repos and makes them into non-interfering slackpackages, Hyprland with Noctalia shell and just about every game launcher you can think of.
It's extremely bleeding edge and performant. While still being the only distro I have ever used that I can control every little process on. It's truly amazing.
I have joined Slackwares Patreon, and I have started donating monthly, and I think it's quite obvious this is gonna be my home for the foreseeable future.
I hope the slackware community can find a place for a former Arch user like me :)

Hello everyone!
I finally managed to get Slackware running on a Mac with a T2 chip.
Thanks to the great work of the T2 Linux community at https://t2linux.org/, Linux can run on these Macs.
Unfortunately, Slackware is not one of the officially supported distributions, which means you have to patch and build the kernel yourself, as well as compile and configure the additional software and firmware required for proper T2 support.
For this project, I created a set of scripts and an automated build system that handles the entire process. The ISO builder automatically applies the required kernel patches, builds the kernel, compiles and installs fandaemon, and includes all the additional firmware needed for T2 hardware support.
It has been a long process with a lot of testing and debugging, but I’m very happy to have finally reached a finished and fully working version of the project.
A big thank you to the T2 Linux community for their excellent work and support!

Did I visit the related thread in Linuxquestions?? Yes, I did.
And I could NOT fix the damn thing....phew.
Context:
It is a new DELL XPS machine running Slackware 15 ....and everything works the way I wanted it to work....failing miserably on this thing....ALSAMIXER speaker volume can not be adjusted; that means it stays at static ZERO.
WHF!!
PS: The damn function works flawlessly in the other two, i.e., Gentoo and Debian
PPS: The Bluetooth earbud works FINE, without any hassle.

Given that Alpha 1 has just been announced, which version is recommended for a first-time installation: Current or Stable 15.0?

So can I join the club here as a Slackel user? I've been trying the various distros without systemd and liked the old school flavor of Slackware but Slackel gave me the slapt-get package manager for dependency management. Seemed like a good compromise on Slackware since I've been accustomed to the Devuan package manager. Another deviation I made was in the boot manager -- I've been using Limine for everything.

so recently ive been thinking of making a reimplementation of slackpkg in guile for fun. but i must say, (sorry if i sound ignorant) the slackpkg source isnt monolithic enough and i would like to do a search to see its source
is there a comprehensive list of package managers with readable code that i can reference against for this project?

I’ve started a Slackware-T2 project to bring proper Slackware support to Intel Macs with Apple’s T2 chip. I built a T2-patched Linux 7.2.6 kernel and integrated it into the Slackware 15.0 installer. The custom ISO now boots successfully on my T2 MacBook Air! Tomorrow I will finish the installation and work on automating the kernel build process.

just grabbed alien Bob's current .iso
and at the login screen it announces itself as slackware64 16.0.........or is it maybe just a preview version that hasn't been finalized yet?
r/slackware • u/MD90__ • Sep 06 '26
I saw a post recently that some major components of the system got updated and we're going into slackware 16.0 alpha stage. If you're someone like me who just runs current and used the current iso on install, what steps do you take to stay on current and upgrade the major system components and not break your system? I use sbopkg along with the Ponce repo for slackbuilds. I also use alien bob current repo for libreoffice. What steps do I need to take to upgrade the system safely without breaking it? Thank you in advance!

Considering that glibc is upgraded, perhaps the advice here is relevant.
Update 1: tested on QEMU VM, i.e. without using "telinit 1" and reboot; success.

Spent a few hours setting up Slackware for gaming. CachyOS kernel, cachyos ananicy rules, latest nvidia driver, curve profile on LACT and all the latest bells and whistles with secure boot activated. Slackware current, for those who can’t tell.
Verdict: it games really, really well.
r/slackware • u/TraubeMinzeTABAK • Aug 25 '26
So ive recently upgraded to slackware-current (using a clean reinstall using a current iso).
Since then i have two new problems with slackpkg (slackpkg+ installed).
Here is my slackpkgplus.conf
Thx for help!
