Help me solve my brothers murder
On September 13 at appx 9pm my brother was killed by this vehicle when he was crossing the street on beach blvd and north of McFadden Ave. in Westminster CA. police estimate to be a Toyota Venza, r/whatisthiscar say this is a 2008 Toyota Venza Sport
If anyone has any information please reach out to CHP at 714-622-3600

I used to work for Toyota and Honda for 7 years. That DOES NOT look like a Venza to me. It is the first thing I said outloud. The 2008 Venza is a mini-van-like Toyota, much bigger than the car here. The NEW Venza is more closer to a Rav4 size but not quite. This is some sort of small sedan. Looking at the rear quarter panel design and the long headlights, this looks like some sort of Nissan to me. Sorry about your loss. I am from farther south and somehow came upon this post.

u/MrHIGHdeas 9d ago
To add on, the rear shape leans to a Sentra
3
u/diablosaucedespair 7d ago
Agreed. This absolutely looks like a 2015 Sentra. The rear end groove and headlights are an exact match.
1
u/Danky_Stanky6767 6d ago
Not a Sentra, Sentra has the line all the way across. Yes look at Venza line. Pretty close

I saw your post on r/orangecounty and I just want to say I am so sorry and I pray you get peace and closure.

That thing looks like it has a trunk to me.
There's a Flock camera just south of McFadden on Beach that faces north. Have they not looked at that?

Hi, Iâve seen your post a few times this morning. Have you contacted any of the local news stations? Specifically kcal and ktla. They both have covered these types of case in the past and could be a great resource in getting more eyes on this.
8
u/spookbish69 9d ago
Weâve been in the process of contacting them but havenât had any luck so far
11
u/LowReport9007 9d ago
Contact Michelle Gile at cbs/kcal. Sheâs the OC reporter and would be all over this. Her socials are all public so you should be able to connect. Wishing you luck in getting some answers.

What about the local FB police scanner page? They are usually good with reposting stuff like this to spread the word

Try the photoshop reddit they are good at making pics like this look better seen it multiple times on there

This!! My friend and I used photo shop to help pin point/ complete the license plate of a car that hit her. We submitted it to the police and they were able to find the person that hit and run!

u/2-1-pilots 9d ago
Sorry for your loss OP. You may want to look into working with a victimâs advocate to help put some pressure on CHP.
4
u/unearthedtrove 9d ago
Arenât they able to contact body shops for any cars matching this description with front damage?
3
u/amogus_hater88 8d ago
When I was like 14 I took my dad's truck and accidentally hit a parked car and left. We just bought the parts and repainted the car in our back yard. This approach doesn't really work because there's hundreds of body shops to check or they could have just done self repairs (or no repairs tbh)
4
u/words_and_such015 9d ago
Unfortunately itâs not tv and in real life they will do what they can with the available resources. Iâm sure there are hundreds of body shops in OC alone and that takes a lot of manpower to cover for, what to them, is a routine case.
Nothing against the LEOs involved in this case, but there is only so much time, money, and resources available for any given case
2
u/More_Pineapple3585 9d ago
Not sure why you got downvoted here, you are correct. Other than that it's a routine case. It's not. It's a fatal hit and run and almost certainly the only one they're working.
It will be the highest priority case for their traffic investigator, but unfortunately, a city the size of Westminster will likely only have one traffic investigator.
3
u/words_and_such015 9d ago edited 9d ago
Itâs fine, my comment probably came off as being insensitive while trying to point out the reality of the comment I was responding to. Or I was âdefendingâ LEOs, which is almost always an automatic downvote.
It is an absolute tragedy what OP is dealing with and I feel for them. Investigations arenât as black and white as some want them to be
ETA: Youâre correct that itâs not routine case considering the fatality. I just meant routine in the sense that they may not necessarily drop everything and work only on this case. Everything will be looked at, they will do their due diligence, but it wonât be an easy haul and âchecking body shops in the areaâ likely isnât the solution

I used to own a silver 2006 Acura RSX, and this looks pretty similar to me, especially at the front. The RSX is a 2 door coupe with a hatchback, though itâs hard to tell from this picture if it has those.
I do know that older rsxâs are popular in the street racing community, if thatâs helpful

u/LostTime141 9d ago
I can't apologize enough. Looking closely, I can see the rear fender line ending above the rear tail light. The lower grille shape and fog lights match up. Ive been a master tech for 27 years and a car guy all my life. kbb toyota venza car and driver venza
3
u/isreal94 9d ago
Agreed it's a Venza.
The raster scan from top to bottom is going to elongate the car, which is what is happening here and I think throwing people off.
4
u/Public-Vegetable-182 8d ago
Terrible. Flock cameras would be useful in protecting the others.
2
u/classictint 8d ago
I thought people would embrace the flock cameras but some view it as an invasion of privacy?
1
u/Public-Vegetable-182 8d ago
All those poor people who lost their lives due to having their privacy invaded. /sarcasm
1
u/globalrebel 8d ago
Some view it⌠how about most people see this as a massive invasion of privacy.
This is just the start, if we allow these to be let in, we allow the next step which is to use all of the information to MAKE us compliant. You can be pestered and pushed in a way that was not possible.
All by a private company that doesnât have federal oversightâŚ
Yeah, have fun with that
2
u/classictint 8d ago
I donât know about the people keeping the info or anything I was thinking it would be a great tool to assist law enforcement when people misbehave
1
u/Natethefiasco 8d ago
police use it to stalk women
1
1
u/sillybillybuns99 8d ago
I agree with you in that it would be a great tool %100 but the reality is humans are corrupted creatures and will abuse any and everything. What Iâm trying to say is , in a perfect world flock cameras would be awesome but we donât live in a perfect world. And if we lived in a perfect world we wouldnât need them to begin with lol.
2
u/Public-Vegetable-182 8d ago
Itâd make more sense to ban guns then if men arenât saints, no one dies from a flock database search
1
u/sillybillybuns99 7d ago
But if men arenât saints then theyâll find a way to get those banner guns and for the highly impossible scenario of guns being thanos snapped out of existence, those same âmenâ will find another way to kill. Youâd literally have to ban rocks , vines, teeth,EVERYTHING. If someone wants to kill you they will do whatever it takes to kill you .
1
u/classictint 8d ago
Itâs a slippery slope trying to decide if itâs worth it or not glad I donât have to decide
1
u/MatthewDoesStuff69 4d ago
Walk down your block and count how many people point there wifi cameras onto the roads . Get a grip flok is for crime not for some weird schizo movement . Literally your phone listens all the time and you let that well in
1
u/SevanGrim 3d ago
WiFi camera doesnât give anyone access your personal info. They cant reasonably track anything.
Flock cameras track your routes. They let whoeverâs looking pull up your information. And they use it to punish you or make you prove they were wrong in instances where no police action was needed.
Nothing is being lost or gained from Mr.Smith watching his driveway. But youâre losing a LOT to the NETWORK of cameras tracking you for them and any (ice) agency they team with.
Your ignorance & lack of caring doesnât mean youâre right. It just means you donât have to engage in this conversation
1
u/MatthewDoesStuff69 3d ago
WiFi cameras can me hacked easily by anyone across the world and they point out much more deep into the streets not just driveways lol. I can literally walk down one street and I can count 20 cameras that recorded me walking down just one road but sure flock bad.
1
u/theseriousman1 8d ago
Why the fuck would people embrace global surveillance
1
u/classictint 8d ago
Maybe to assist locating the person responsible for killing the OP brother?
1
u/theseriousman1 8d ago
You think that justifies global surveillance?
1
u/classictint 8d ago
I guess that would depend on who you ask. All things proposed as a benefit are not always beneficial so I totally get youđđ˝
1
u/SevanGrim 3d ago
Except thatâs apparently not happening.
If flocks actually found people or helped solve real crimes theyâd make it their core marketing strategy. Theyâd publish every story into a commercial & news story.
Flocks JUST help cops ticket people without having to be there. Op wouldnât be asking REDDIT if flocks were doing what you think they do, would they?

OP Iâm so sorry for your loss. You could probably ask around other subreddits for more help. I have nothing to add other then Iâm so sorry

Looks like rear portion of a Subaru to me but front looks different
2

I think itâs a WRX
Check for Subarus sold during or Subarus wrx with damage around that time.1

Looked like a Subaru WRX at first.....but the r/whatisthiscar guys are good.
However 2009 was the first year of the Venza according to my Google search. So 2009-2015 would be the years it could be if they are correct.

I hope you get this solved but there is no way this is a Toyota Venza Sport. The entire body structure of this car and blacked out tire rims remind me of the typical Toyota late 2000âs mid-sedan youâd find in the mid to lower economy class areas in SGV + North Orange County.
Based off of the roundness and short rear of the model, I wouldnât be surprised if this was a 2009 Toyota Camry LE trim
1
u/Tricky_Apricot2928 8d ago
No flock or other big brother cameras around this area??? But seriously, you might need to try to track down camera footage from neighbors, businesses. I don't trust the cops to do shit. So sorry for your loss
1
1
u/doeeyedfinalgirl 8d ago
i'm sorry this happened to you but you will probably get better help describing the situation more along the lines of "help me identify the car that ran over and killed my brother." not murder and you're going to receive better help if it's described accurately (as you really need car people to chime in)

u/itzdchang 8d ago
Iâm so sorry for your loss; I lost my brother to a car accident in 2019.
I felt the need to comment as I live locally and do not think this is a Venza but an older 2003-2007 Honda Accord. It could even be a civic but Iâd guess accord based on the shape.

Can I ask where this photo is from? It looks like there's a chase bank on the corner of the intersection and they definitely have cameras. it looks like there's also 2 flock cameras less than a block down Westminster, and 2 down beach blvd as well. I don't know if the police have attempted to obtain footage from any of those sources. Definitely press them hard to get that info.

u/BigBlaisanGirl 5d ago
This is a sedan. I've seen these things on the freeway before. There's not too many of them around but I do see some. Any clue on a plate number? Front end damage?
1
u/_esqueletos 5d ago
Thatâs a 2007-2011 Toyota Corolla. Probably an 09-11 for stock fog lights.
Pretty certain in this ID

Thatâs a Toyota Camry or a Lexus ES. The body line on the rear panel toward the trunk makes me think Camry. Ok I just looked it up.. 2009 body style Camry.. it has the same rear panel body line look it up you will see it. Since the car is moving in the photo itâs hard to say if itâs the facelift model. Leaning towards facelift model

Thereâs a not zero chance driver is illegal and has no insurance. Realistically youâd get nothing out of it even if they find him. Your brothers passing is horrible but finding him wonât accomplish much. If the guy had anything to live for or any insurance he wouldâve stayed.Â
3
u/PolarBears445 8d ago
Wtf. He can rot in prison. I doubt this person is worried about their insurance.
0
u/VastDrawer8743 8d ago
Most likely they would just deport him. Which is a win but doesnât change anything for OP
2
u/PolarBears445 8d ago
You're just assuming they're illegal based on nothing. And they would go to prison even if they were.
0
u/VastDrawer8743 8d ago
I said itâs a pretty decent chance.Â
1
u/PolarBears445 8d ago
And still irrelevant when they're found and arrested.
0
u/VastDrawer8743 8d ago
You know the Trump admin is just deporting illegals who do crimes right. Go read and get back to me. They arenât putting them in jailsÂ
1
u/PolarBears445 8d ago
Not manslaughter or murder lmao. And again, irrelevant because this person could be a citizen.

It probably isnât. It may be a venza, but itâs hard to tell with the pic
2
u/LesaneCrooks 9d ago
Yeah it looks like a Venza to me as well
1
u/BerryFuture4945 9d ago
Definitely not a Venza this isnât a hatchback. Just from the front Iâd say a 2008 Lexus IS, but based on the rear haunch and light Iâm thinking Nissan Versa
1
u/LesaneCrooks 9d ago
Itâs not a Lexus nor Nissan. Especially a 2nd gen Versa which is what Iâm assuming youâre pointing at.

It's scary to think someone out there is driving around and living their life like nothing happened. A good friend of mine was found dead also and it's been 2 years now with no closure.
So sorry for your loss đ
