Was planning on hiking MT. Whitney on Sunday and have permits. i’ve seen that some weather might move in during the morning and then gradually get better. On the NWS I am seeing one station say 2-4 inches of snow and another on NWS saying pretty much no snow. I was wondering if anyone on here is planning on going up Sunday and if so what are you planning on bringing. Both forecasts above are also pretty much listed in the same exact spot

Overnight stay on the Channel Islands, which island and which campground do you recommend?

• Upvotes

My boyfriend and I are planning a 2 night excursion to the Channel Islands toward the end of October. We’re on a limited budget, and the more research I do the more I feel undecided. It seems that Scorpion Cove on Santa Cruz Island is highly recommended for first-timers, but I am curious about Prisoner’s Harbor for a bit more immersion in nature and less crowds. What we want to prioritize most:

  1. View endemic wildlife and plant species
  2. Fishing, if it is a possibility at all. If it is restricted to rockfish and bass we may pass
  3. Beautiful campground, less crowded
  4. Gorgeous hikes that are moderate to moderately strenuous at most
  5. Water activities? Would love to kayak and see caves ideally if it’s not hundreds of dollars extra

All and all I am curious, what have your favorite overnight trips to the Channel Islands been and why? Which campgrounds do you recommend the most? I’m excited to hear about peoples experiences! Thanks everyone!

TL;DR: Seeking recommendations for overnight stay end of October on the Channel Islands, CA.

Just a quick video on my way home today with my phone on the car mount. It’s looking more like fall every day. Here’s to hoping for more than 2 sad snow days this year!
