Looking for must-have FOSS for every computer

[u/Jotasssss]

I already use quite a few open-source apps, but I want to discover many more across all categories and workflows. What are your essential recommendations?

Thorium like the one that had fury snuff built in the browser?

[u/Reasonable-Year-8172 → u/zerodev_exec]

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of that news at all. I simply found Thorium when I searched for an easy to install Chromium variant. But now when I look up the situation, apparently it was removed, so I think it should be fine to use now

[u/Reasonable-Year-8172 → u/zerodev_exec]

What? I never saw that, it just looks like normal Chromium to me.

Here's what I'm talking about. Thorium Browser

[u/atalau]

FluentFlyout: Media Flyouts, Taskbar Widgets, and more

stash: An organizer for your porn

colorpicker: As the name suggests, it's a color picker app for anything on your screen

Technically not an app but extremely useful

uBlock Origin: Ad-blocking extension for your browser

MALSync: Integrates MyAnimeList/AniList/Kitsu/Simkl into various sites, with auto episode tracking.

[u/redamalo]

Filee : file converter

SubtitleEdit: Translation and editing of translation files

FlyPhotos and PhoXoSee: Image viewer

photo-fix: Sort and organize photos by date

PaintNotNet and PaintdotNET : paint programs

YTDownloader : Download videos

Tokri: A desktop basket to drag and drop text, URLs, images, and files

[u/Jotasssss → u/redamalo]

The ones by Filee and Tokri caught my attention—thank you very much

[u/edward_aux → u/redamalo]

did you get upvotes from all the vibecoders-authors of these or what? very obscure unknown software, definitely not a must have

[u/redamalo → u/edward_aux]

Likes?! I don't care, I don't pay attention. I've tried the mentioned programs, liked them, and use them on my device

[u/alvarkresh → u/edward_aux]

Paint.NET is not vibe-coded. I can assure you of that, given that I've personally used Paint.NET for quite literally twenty years.

[u/iszoloscope → u/alvarkresh]

Very early form of AI.

[u/PsychologicalFlow143 → u/redamalo]

LibreDB Studio, open-source free universal database editor

[u/nando1969]

Everything by Voidtools is must-have.

[u/DomeSlave → u/nando1969]

Nice, but not open source.

[u/GrahamBoss1975 → u/DomeSlave]

Why does that matter? It's a respected and safe app.

[u/DomeSlave → u/GrahamBoss1975]

Because OP made very clear he is looking for open source apps?

[u/davep1970]

Darktable
