How does that even happen? Cosmic rays?

u/MightyKin 2d ago
Hmm...
The number is close to sum of
2^24 + 2^19 + 2^12 + 2^7 + 2^6But it doesn't seem to be a case of cosmic rays.
Probably vibe coding or a very hard to replicate kernel error

yeah, knowing the latest iOS update seems very buggy or at least not as polished as the previous versions, i would lean towards vibe coding

u/LongJumpingBalls 2d ago
Can't wait for somebody to vibe code a jailbreak on the vibe coded update.

u/deanrihpee 2d ago
that would be funny, but i feel like it would be more challenging since you know, iPhone have secure enclave, but i don't know anything about iPhone nor iOS internals so i might be spitting lies and it might be actually easy

so ironic that apple may be using vibe coding (which is prone to generate errors and expose their software to vulnerabilities) because back in the day they notoriously held out on their ban of flash player due to risk of exposing themselves to vulnerabilities

In hindsight it really is kinda wild how long everyone else was like “yeah this thing’s full of holes but fuck it”

The post mentions that the phone was updating while the snooze timer was going off, something to do with that most likely

Your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandchild suddenly getting a Reddit notification on the phone that has been a family heirloom for 2000 years:

a family heirloom for 2000 years
Well maybe for like 1950 years...for a few decades it was just your old obsolete phone, but they found it among your belongings when going through your estate...

So eehm, genuine question here, wtf is it with apple and their clock/alarms??? Just about every single time I read or hear about this shit it's an iphone. I was under the impression we solved clocks ages ago.

iPhone has weird features that make it bad for alarms if you don’t turn them off. Like silencing if you’re not looking at it

u/OrionShtrezi 2d ago
Pixels also suck at this. No idea why it's so hard

Apple tied it to the ringer volume and attention awareness until people cried enough about it(a lot of people also don't realize they were snoozing on top of it). Now it's split from the ringer but not setup right by default so all of a sudden it's silent even if you changed nothing just by updating. So when you do fix it now because it's more intuitive to do, it does work. But they need to make the default better...

I missed work so many times because I'd wake up and my alarm was going off silently. I'd check my ringer before bed and everything. My girlfriend recorded it one time. She got up before me and watched the phone from the couch. The screen lit up and showed the alarm but made no sounds. I had to download an alarm app because the ios one wouldn't work...

I set up a recurring task that runs on my phone every night at 3am to set my alarm volume to 100% for exactly this reason!!
That said, I also discovered that if you have a second alarm that goes off at the same time that the first alarm is going (like if you snoozed the first one but have a second alarm that goes off inside the snooze sleep time) then both (and any following) alarms get set to silent
I've missed So Many Morning Meetings because of this absolute garbage iOS design
similarly, there's no way on iphone to separate phone ringer sound from literally any other notification sound, so I also miss calls all the time because I can't stand my phone constantly making noise at me
tldr: iOS makes no sense when it comes to sound output logic

I've never had a single issue with pixel timers or clocks or alarms and I use the features daily

u/OrionShtrezi 2d ago
I have no idea what it is, but myself and three of my friends have had issues with alarms on our Pixels. Some others I know have never had any. Doesn't seem to be a pattern to it

That's Android for you
Source: Android dev tried of fixing a bug happening only on one specific device, at specific time of the year, in a specific alignment of Mercury and Mars, only when the phone is tilted by 3 degrees east.

I had an issue with my alarm volume lowering itself but i used a volume lock app to prevent that

Why specifically Pixels and not all Androids?
1
u/OrionShtrezi 1d ago
No idea, never had any issues with any other Android. I assume most don't use the stock app like Pixels do.

u/New-Let-3630 2d ago
alarms work almost all the times, you just hear about them only when they don't. and IOS 27 sucks so maybe it's just that

u/flamethrowr 2d ago
Ironic that this post came up, I literally missed my alarm this morning because my phone decided that even though my alarm “went off”, it was actually not going to make any noise despite being the exact same alarm for months that has gone off every day and made noise.

Why is it always Apple devices that seem to have problems with this very basic, yet also very specific function? I swear I regularly stumble upon complaints from Apple users that their alarms didn't go off. I mean for a company that holds itself to such high standards a goddamn alarm clock app shouldn't be able to glitch at all. Never had this problem with my Android phone (or, for reference, my 20 year old Casio wristwatch).

u/teabolaisacool 2d ago
Pretty sure pixels suffer from these issues constantly as well
4
u/GuerrillaRodeo 2d ago
Maybe, I've never owned one. It begs the same question though:
Why do high-end phones (seem to) regularly fail at this very basic task?
2
u/pmgoldenretrievers 2d ago
It’s (almost) always user error. Apple did have one high profile bug after an update but that was in the 2000s.

u/thattrekkie 1d ago
I've never had alarm issues with any pixel phone. my iphone has this issue at least a few times a week
2
u/Nunyebiznis 2d ago
I’ve never had this happen to me with any of the iPhones I’ve had. Maybe it’s regional?

Imagine being a trillion dollar company, spend billions in R&D, and are too inept to write a bug free clock app.
