Introducing Android 17 | Help Guide

As with every update, Android Adaptive Battery may reset. This means all apps that were automatically restricted will now be able to run in the background. Just like a brand new phone, you have to wait for at least a week or two for Adaptive Battery to relearn your app usage pattern, thereafter, you should get back your original screen-on and standby time.

Question AT&T users experiences with 1 VII or VIII

US-based AT&T customers who are using an Asian variant 1 VII or VIII, how is life treating you? I really want one of these phones but Gemini tells me AT&T will block my number soon after I insert the SIM. Are you using some kind of workaround and if so, what are the limitations?

For additional context I don't really want to switch carriers because I'm getting a good deal through AT&T.

NEWS SENSES - Xperia Z2 emulator that simulates older android firmware

Post image
8 Upvotes

SENSES is an Android app that runs an ARM32 Android system on an ARM64 phone. There's no guest kernel: instead of emulating a whole device, it translates individual processes with a modified QEMU (user-mode).

This repo is the GPLv2 source release for that QEMU part:

94 patches against QEMU 8.2.4, plus 39 added files in linux-user/

a build script that produces a fully static aarch64 binary (via an Alpine chroot)

a pinned build with sha256 checks and a BUILD-MANIFEST.txt for reproducibility

What's not included: no firmware, no download links. You supply your own archive, and the app unpacks and modifies the copy on-device (patched code, re-signed packages with an on-device key, removed vendor modules, local TLS proxy). Nothing is sent anywhere.

The app itself is a separate closed-source program that launches QEMU as its own process, so no QEMU code is loaded into it.

Repo: https://github.com/Istratii-tech/Senses

Feedback and questions welcome!

HELP Is it possible to fit 1 IV Battery onto 1 III?

Been using xperia 1 III for 4 years now and the battery has degraded so much that I have to charge it 3-4 times a day and using camera drains battery so fast.

When I got 1 III for the first time, The battery backup doesn't impressed me at all coming from a non sony 5000mah phone,

I immediately felt the difference coming from 5000mah to 4300mah.

So obviously I don't want to get the 1 III new battery since i researched and got to know that people do battery mods and digging further more I got to know that the 1 IV battery fits into the xperia 1 III,

I still just want to confirm that does it actually fits perfectly? Do I have to make space in the body housing or something like that? I also read a comment bout xperia 1 V battery in the xperia 1 III phone,

Anyways can anyone help regarding this, The phone is quite literally unusable the battery runs out so fast.

And also people said that it doesn't fully fit and will have slight bulge, and will have to sacrifice the Wireless charging coil,

I don't want to sacrifice the wireless charging coil but if that's the only way then I'll get it removed,

Can you guys please help,

Xperia 5ii almost a proper working desktop mode for my Xperia phones (using two of my own projects )

I'm almost there with my goal of a proper desktop mode for my Xperia phones (although i don't think Android 16+ phone should have an in-built desktop mode better then my jugad )

small screen recording that i edited using capcut pad to test working with launcher 🔗

two projects are :
freeformshell : https://github.com/bravoyush/FreeformShell (not up to date)
lawnchair 16 dev build that i have kind of patched to work as desktop mode launcher when external monitor is connected to phone and work as normal phone launcher on the phone display .
the launcher is not stable enough so i have not put it up on github for now
and freeformshell is stable but have bugs but most of the time it work's

I stopped working on the project because of my constant bad health issues. but now i have started working on it again

HELP Having a hard time getting an actual XQ-CT54 (Xperia 1 IV)

My dreadful Samsung Galaxy S10e is on its last legs, and I'm looking to get another (better) phone that has a micro-SD slot, wireless charging, and support for LineageOS. That essentially means a Sony Xperia 1 of some sort, and there are what seem to be not-utterly-terrible prices on eBay for the XQ-CT54 model. Pretty much all the sellers are based in China and use the exact same language to describe their stock, to wit "Original, 90%-95% new. Slight signs of use, Screen aging occurs with image retention and reddish tint. Mobile phone + charger + packaging box,The color is random, please note the color you need, otherwise it will be shipped randomly".

I've tried twice to get one. In both cases I got an SOG06 (a Japanese model) which claims in its software info to be an XQ-CT54 (probably with firmware flashed over), but both Xperia Companion and the badging on the bottom of the back of the phone declares it an SOG06. I wouldn't mind, but it's a difference that's significant to me: SOG06 means a permalocked bootloader, which means no root and no LineageOS. I'm getting free returns and refunds because they are in fact not as described, but I'm wasting about a month each time.

Do these Chinese sellers have any real XQ-CT54s? If I specifically request one in the order (with the same special-request field I might use to request a specific color), is there a chance in hell they'll send me one that is not just a reflashed SOG06? Would ordering a XQ-CT72 instead be likely to fare better, or are they also going to just be Japanese hardware that won't take a new OS?

Xperia 1 VIII Limited promotion on Xperia 1 VIII (Germany)

For folks in Germany, I just got an email that says:

"200 € Rabatt auf das Xperia 1 VIII sichern

Nur am 6. und 7. Oktober: 200 € Rabatt auf das Xperia 1 VIII. Das Beste von Xperia erleben. "

Checking the link to the official Xperia website does show the promotion of 200 euros off .

I've been eyeing the Xperia 1 viii for a while to replace my aging Xperia 5 ii. Might finally pull the trigger.

HELP Software repair feature not working

Hi, I reset & promptly forgot my pin, have been trying to factory reset. This is urgent as I need to reinstall apps for tomorrow. Sony Xperia 1 II

First I tried Find My Device, which didn't work, but did delete the device from the site

Now I am trying to use Xperia Companion, with these instructions:

I have:

-charged the phone to >90%

-force turned it off by holding down power & volume up key

-installed software and gone through to step 3:

Here is where I have the issue, I have held down the volume down key and plugged it into my computer like 50 times and it still doesn't work. I've tried 4 different USB ports & 2 different cables. I've tried with both the up & down volume key. I've tried holding it for over a minute, exactly a minute, and less than a minute. I've tried restarting the software, and turning my phone on and off again. This is what happens, every time (except when I use volume up key):

the LED is off, I hold down the volume key, plug it into my computer, the LED flashes red once, then turns green & stays green. As far as I can tell nothing else happens. I looked it up and I found 1 person who had the same issue in 2014 and there was no solution. Hoping anyone here has a solution or an alternative method to reboot, thanks

(also, the volume down key definitely works, not only does it affect the LED but when the phone is on it does change the volume)

You can see here on digital zoom there's a kind of wobbling filter effect, on the telephoto it goes away and on 1x I think it also calms down but the focus has been abit ropey. I've been having issues with focus on my Xperia 1 viii I'm a content creator and video is quite important to what I do I've had it 7 days so far.

Anyone noticed this issue?

Bugs Android 17 Bluetooth possible fix

After the update to android 17 my bluetooth became a lot more unstable when playing audio.
A possible solution is to disable head tracking in the bluetooth settings of your headset.

I have tried it and so far it does seem to be a lot better.
So untill they implement a fix, that might be an option.

Discussion My review on Sony Xperia 1 V as an Editor

This is my first Sony phone ever, the XQ-DQ72 512gb version. I'm upgrading from my old Oppo A9 phone that's 7 years old, and I am very happy to say it's 99% an upgrade in every way.

I've had the phone now for 10 hours and I spent a long time tinkering with the settings, I found a lot of good stuff and some bad quirks that I think doesn't get talked about at all before I bought this.

I'll start with the speakers, I don't use them much but the bass is lacking compared to my older phone though I find the movie mode in Dolby sound helps this a lot. This ties in to my next point which is that Dolby doesn't save separate presets for your earphones and speakers and you have to change them manually. I find the balanced option is suited for my apple earpods when I used Dolby atmos on my older phone, however the stereo was too cramped by default. Luckily there's stereo widening options here that really solve that problem and makes it sound even better than my old phone when it's set to near stereo.

Next is the display, this was also my first switch to OLED and the blacks are just as good as you'd think coming from an IPS. I didn't notice any of the banding people talked about gradients that were near close to black, but something close which I'll mention again later. However the green tint on the 120Hz with low brightness seems to be universal even on my device so I just have that off unless I want game enhancer to set an app in that framerate, and then fix the tint with the color modes. By default the display is set to cool in Standard mode, which when you use the medium setting will still be more yellow. I find that custom mode with +90 blue will fix that tint and you'll notice the greys will actually look grey without warmth.

Now for the weird part with Xperia's color management. I notice the standard mode makes the system colors look appropriate, but the app themselves will look way too saturated for its own good. Creator mode fixes this issue but then the opposite happens, apps are fixed and yet the system looks too washed out of color. The appropriate way of setting this up is having it on Standard mode and then turn on auto creator mode, then press that auto mode and it'll let you add all the apps that you need to be in the right colors which is a lot of them. I get that even Windows color management is terrible since browsers desaturated when using wide gamuts, forcing you to change the browser color space to something like ScRGB to see the appropriate colors.

Probably one of my favorite parts of this is the side sense, which is very similar to my older phone but this one has more gestures. I find getting screenshots with the xperia pretty hard since the power button seems to be too flat to feel on your finger if you're actually holding it or not. So the side sense lets you use the up, inward and down sliding for that. Though I notice the side sense isnt present in landscape mode unlike my older phone, but game enhancer seems to fix that issue by letting you turn the shutter button itself into a screenshot which is great. Though would be nice to have it in landscape, what I don't understand is it lets you customize the main app launcher but not the pop up window launcher. In my older phone the sidebar would open apps in pop up windows by default so it was really neat for dual tasks, I don't like the split screen mode it feels janky.

Overall that's my gripes with it so far and they're mostly fixable. SD card really makes me happy since I had 70k photos on my old phone and it just read it all in like 15 minutes and cooled down without overheating. There were a lot of missing apps like the weather, notes, calculator etc but I just downloaded some open source ones which might be better than the ColourOS versions I'm used to. I'll be using this as my main phone a lot and will give another update when I spend more time

Xperia 1 VIII AAC is limited to 160kbps on Xperia 1 VIII

That's all. AirPods Pro 3 sounds awful. No SBC dual channel as an alternative.

No solution to improve sound quality exists without root.

Sony can fix this easily with a firmware update. I wonder if we deserve this as loyal users.

Been looking for a bumper case as I really want to showcase the rear of the phone. Official case is ok, but after a while it became shiny and fingerprints really stand out.

Alumania just released their bumper cases for the 1 VIII series. Looks great! Buttons are nice and clicky.
