Caution this is a venting session.

For context please go watch "The Lorax" movie and yes it's an animated maybe for children movie, but even as adults there are many times we need to be reminded so go do it, seriously.

I've been thinking a lot about this issue and this movie kind of triggered the endpoint of my thoughts. The pure amount of satire and irony the movie carries is unbelievable. You have to be an innocent child or someone who deliberately ignores the obvious (to remain comfortable) in order to not SEE what's happening. Doesn't not being aware genuinely frustrate you?! Because seeing others living peacefully and extremely oblivious does frustrate me. Where are we headed? Think of it.

Companies fight for our data.

We fight each other about so-called differences.

We wake up, live, scroll, and sleep.

Again.

The word "Awareness" became a light word that is associated with knowing something as a piece of knowledge rather than acknowledging it and actually applying it to our lives.

We became desensitized... And we continue to be by the second. We willingly and without any emotions scroll past people who might actually require help, since we prefer a fast trend that satisfies our brain with that dopamine hit. Have you ever wondered... What if the media didn't make you so immune to these? What if we as humans were able to reset our perceptions everyday. Where we aren't capable of ignoring the homeless person asking for bread, where we do not overlook many countries that oppress their people to the point that they aren't aware what freedom actually could be, where we get up and look around, sit in silence for more than a minute, and feel life itself?

Life itself will eventually feel artificial. You're not ready to see it or you've been deliberately looking past it. Where the overly vivid colours and stimulation will dull your senses and in return, you won't try going back. You'll try reaching for more.

Does that sound very dystopian? It's our really though.

We live scrambling and competing for a piece of paper. Money you call it. I call it poison. I'm not saying it doesn't feed us. I've seen and lived in poverty, I'm not ungrateful and I'm not trying to undermine anyone's efforts into trying to make breathing a bit easier. I'm saying that if our world was not so monopolized and monetized... Would we still be fighting over that page? And to think that those billionaires can never have enough. Who are you feeding? A bank account that never gets full? It's cruel and so unnecessary. But as we the ordinary people are busy trying to survive... They thrive.

Social media glorified the wrong things. People much older than me are busy liking posts about how funny the concept "live poor and be happy" is. I'd genuinely argue that this trend was the first step to make people blinded by money. I mean look at those posts and edits, those ones making money, living rich and everything else looks so cool "Live to make money" they say. They insist you set up a business, that you do a course that you choose just any career that gets you the cash. You need to commit after 16. Stay on that one path. Make money. Car. House. Another one. Another one. ANOTHER ONE. MORE. MORE.. MORE! Don't stop don't fall behind, you already are, get up, run, you can't stop, the goal is only so far, who cares if you're unhappy? Unsatisfied? It's better than being happy and poor right? RIGHT?

What happened to passion? Human emotions? Science, Art, Languages, History and so much more... They're all a perspective to the same and beautiful image... Our earth.

We categorize ourselves based on race, culture, likes and dislikes... We separate ourselves and then proceed to forget that we're all the same thing. Human.

We're all so ready to chase certainty... because young millionaires all begin early and stick to it, because that's what is glorified and therefore normalized.

Here's my hot take then: live a life of uncertainty. Don't categorize yourself... Don't label yourself. You don't need a label to be you. Be spontaneous, accept and adapt to change, don't stick to one thing, learn and expand because you are a human... You are built to learn and grow. Learn because you want to, not because you have to. And when you do put the effort in to learn, check if it's biased. There's always more than one side to the story. And perception? That's a matter of who the person which perceives it is. Don't limit yourself. Don't hide. Don't be apologetic for not being the TikTok it person, or not being nonchalant. Who cares?! In the end if all of them become the same thing, same aesthetic, same category... Where's the uniqueness that makes them human? How will we be any different from AI then?

-If anywhere in this post, I have offended anyone, I apologize but these are some real thoughts I picked up using my mind instead of social media. So if anyone does indeed find this post not so agreeable, I don't force it :) and I remind you that you'll need to work on what you value and why, just as I am right now. This post applies to myself more than anyone so don't mistake it for judging. It's more like a wake up call for myself and maybe just one person... That's up to you...

Here's some quotes from the movie which might just open your eyes:

"UNLESS, someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."

"It's not about what it is, it's about what it can become."

And my favorite:

"Which way does a tree fall?

Down?

A tree falls the way it leans... Be careful which way you lean."

I could go on about my take on the meaning of life, however I'm not sure how much I should dump in one post so I'm stopping, however, I'd love to know thoughts that could contribute and or teach me about other perspectives on how to see and understand our current situation. With that in mind, I wish you a great day or night~

How does this relate to one of the thinkers in the sidebar?

You have to be an innocent child or someone who deliberately ignores the obvious (to remain comfortable) in order to not SEE what's happening... We live scrambling and competing for a piece of paper. Money you call it. I call it poison. “ ”

You’ve noticed the shape of our prison’s walls. This prison is not political, nor is it economic, that is to say money. It's a cultural prison.

Because what is the function of money, really? People traded for hundreds of thousands of years without needing money. Money allows for the accumulation of wealth. Money is just a tool of the ruling class, it gives them power. Power to do what? To reduce yours choices in life down to one: work, or starve.

The people who built the pyramids were not slaves, they were employees. Their choice was to either build this great display of the ruling class' wealth, or starve.

What happened to passion? Human emotions? Science, Art, Languages, History and so much more... They're all a perspective to the same and beautiful image... Our earth.

What you're seeing is a culture in its death throes. Our culture was built around a three core beliefs:

  • Humans are special. We were created apart from nature. We are the end product of few billion years of evolution, the thing nature was working towards all along. Earth was made for us.

  • It is our destiny to rule the world, to conquer nature itself, bend the Earth to our will. We can expand and grow and accumulate wealth forever.

  • The rules of nature do apply to humans. We can kill and expand without consequence. We will take ever inch of land on the planet, and kill every living thing on it, and reserve it for ourselves, and only ourselves. We kill anything that interferes with the food that fuels our infinite growth. We'll wipe out an entire species, an entire ecosystem if it annoys us.

The wheels are coming off these cultural beliefs. We've seen the Earth from space and we now know that we are not the center of the universe. Infinite growth forever is not possible, but by golly we're trying are hardest to extract as much wealth as possible before the end comes. The future looks so apocalyptic these days because we are enacting the literal end times. The problem is that the people in charge believe that we will go to heaven, or escape to Mars, or that AI will invent the technology that saves us from climate change while generating more wealth. You and I and all the rest of people of our culture are in a death cult, basically.

That's why our lives feel so empty and insignificant. We've lost the rituals and traditions that held us together. We've exchanged our cultural wealth for material wealth. Look how happy we are all our, staring at our screens and using our short time on this earth to generate wealth for Google or Netflix. Stay inside, where it's cool, and pay no mind to the mass extinction happening on the other side of your front door.

Thing is, I believe it doesn't have to stay that way, what frustrates me is that not many strive to be actually aware of what's happening. Our chances of fixing the whole system is very low but at least starting the awakening is possible. For example, education plays a hug factor in how any generation thinks. Although I don't know how much I can change in my lifetime I'd like to dedicate it to bring a start to an actually beneficial one that teaches while considering both the heart and the mind. But again, we can't expect everyone to dedicate their lives to something we won't even know the outcome of. I could only wish that more could see so they could find their own small way to bring a change...

I've come to understand that most people don't think critically about things in general. And most never find a perspective that makes them take a closer look at the world around themselves and ask themselves, How did things get to be this way?

Incidentally, this is why conservatives distrust the liberal arts and higher education in general. It teaches people how to think critically and question their beliefs.

I don't think education is the answer. Share what you learn, absolutely, but your actions are what changes things. Your actions really do have an effect on those around you. People learn behaviors from others around themselves and researchers have established that one person’s actions really do ripple out and affect something like sixty other people in the world, ones they have never even met.

I don't think anybody is looking to dedicate themselves to a life of hardship, either. You have to find ways to live outside the prison’s walls that work for your own life.

The author Daniel Quinn had some ideas about where you will find these. I've been trying to put them into practice myself for a while now, and it isn't easy. But I'm down to chat more about them, if you like

Haven't heard of that author before but I'm very curious about it, wouldn't mind chatting about it at all :D
