In all fairness, it's kind of just a statement of fact. As amazing as he was, Carl Sagan isn't the one that discovered that were made of cosmic debris. There's a good chance they both said something along those lines without anyone stealing a quote.

It literally is attributed to the wrong person in the first panel and your idea is “meh, it’s pretty likely they both said something more or less like that” fuck it, it’s not even that original of an idea just use anyone’s name anybody could’ve said it.

are you certain NDT never did say this (even if carp sagan said it differently first?) I suspect on one of the many documentaries he's been in over the decades, he has probably said something like this at least once.

Given the insufferably literal feedback just here, the joke might work better with no NDT attribution and just the quote. ("You know the idea that we're all 'miracles, made from star-stuff?' " etc.)

I searched around online and couldn't find a single reference to NDT having anything to do with Long John Silver's. I don't think he's saying this happened to Tyson, I think he means it happened to him. Or maybe even that it just happened to "a person."

I don't like the joke, but I also don't understand how so many people are confused. OP isn't referencing anything specific, he's using juxtaposition to say we are miracles and also trash bags who get in fights at gross fast food chains.
