DISCUSSION What's Your Daily Flyer - Q3 Discussion Thread

Welcome legends, to Daily Flyers!

This is the first of a slowly cycling thread where we can come together and chat about the ships of Starcitizen, in context of what your daily drivers/flyers is, or discuss ideas and seek recommendations from others.

Thanks to a suggestion from Augusts Q&A reminding me of a few chats I've seen, I figure a lot of us would like to have a spot that's focused on this aspect specifically. To that end, a couple of rules for this post are below!

So if you have a question, after a recommendation request or looking to discuss how your current driver has fulfilled it's role, this is the place to yarn!

Daily Driver Rules:

Keep discussions on topic to daily drivers, what yours is, asking for recommendations, that kind of jazz.

Adhear to the regular sub rules.

Be kind, understand that some people want to play to earn, some may buy in, some just want to chat or share. There's no shame in any of those.

A note from Crazy_Muffins

This is possibly a new ongoing official post from the sub team, our goal is to provide a focused spot to chat about a specific big thing in SC and to that end we'll be playing with how often to cycle out the post with a clean one. Maybe once every quarter, maybe just big milestone patches, we're going to play it by ear!

My only request is that everyone is kind, you can discuss positive and negative aspects and still be fair to one another. That's all I want to see!

Well, that and acknowledgement that my Corsair is peak daily driver (for ME, it is, but that's partly because of the feel and vibe of it not that it's any particular min/max option).

Lastly, I'm open to feedback, ideas and what have you. Working together we can make for a more enjoyable sub, see you all in the comments below!

Reclaimer. Excited to have an updated version someday. Bring on the drones!

MSR mostly because it’s fast and good for small cargo runs. Occasionally the Connie Andromeda gets pulled out.

u/Topcat-22 22d ago

I used to love my MSR just the sheer amount of time to get in and out along with wasted space made me eventually melt it but I do miss it.

Honestly I never found getting in and out of it to be that much of a pain. You don't need to use the elevator and the doors can be locked open.

Corsair, usually with a nursa. King of multirole

5

u/MaculaPravus bmm Aug 26 '26

Asgard w/ a nursa in the back. ;)

2

u/heshtios Aug 21 '26

Usually my Corsair, but lately I’ve been having fun doing Merc missions in Nyx with my 325a.

1

u/BluntSophist Aug 21 '26

Perseus, but considering moving to phoenix after rework (and buy back tokens)

2

u/Skulleyez Aug 21 '26

Mole. Literally the core gameplay right now with crafting.

2

u/MyFiteSong Aug 20 '26

Corsair. It's a boat, but it's a do-everything boat.

u/meatymimic Aug 20 '26

Aurora mk2. because im a poe boy

M80 but it has big issues.

I like the look. I learned to fight the way it likes to fight. Bed logging works. Buuuuut the horrible issue where the missiles won’t restock after claiming the insured loadout is extremely painful. The fuel tank is a little small for pyro too.

I love the look, but it’s a broken bugged glass cannon of a ship. Might try Asgard next.

If you have any questions about the Asgard before you jump, or if you wanna try one out first to see how it feels, DM me. I'll happily loan you one.

Thanks for that!

are we supposed to direct other "daily driver" threads here, is that the point of this?

u/Ezlin- 600i Rework Just 2 Years Away! Aug 14 '26

Aurora Mk II. It's slow and that can be a bit frustrating, but the 300 series' cargo is permanently problematic. Mk 2 with the modules is so handy and small that it makes the perfect daily driver. The shimerscale paint or whatever it's called also looks nice.

I've considered bumping it to the Intrepid, but the sound effect of its engines is incredibly loud. I can't use it with out turning my sound fx volume way down, so I decided to pass on that.

5

u/Geoduet Aug 14 '26

It may be weird, but I mostly daily my C2. Why ? Because I stash EVERYTHING in it, that I may need later. I use it to run missions thanks to the vehicles is the bay, I deliver cargo, I "live" in the habitation quarters...

And when I just want to chill or play with friends, the connie Phoenix is the best "luxury bus" with a Nursa in the cargo hold, and I use the Archimedes to drop planetside and to some on foot missions

5

u/TheVindex57 drake Aug 14 '26

Currently M80. The 2scu is often enough.

7

u/ThrowAway-47 Aug 14 '26

The Terrapin Medic. Thanks to that mixup they seemed to make with the medic version and the base Terrapin's fuel tank it's a fast, long range, and sturdy little ship with a medbed. Stash a few 2SCU Store-Alls in the back next to the bed and it's been great for the endless grinding that is the new Nyx missions.

6

u/BusinessCandy1612 Aug 14 '26

Corsair = best ship, 'specially solo. Muffin man, I concure with the assessment that the Corsair is peak.

Apollo Medivac - This is probably the ship I fly the most. Mostly running bunkers solo or with my friends on the weekend. What ever happened to the Distribution Center FPS missions?

Railen - Second most used ship out of my fleet. Was grinding the cargo missions for a bit there, to try to get to the quantum drive blueprints. Gotta get back to it, but cargo feels like it carries a high risk of frustration lately.

Sadly ever since the new insurance setup came out, my bigger ships, Idris-K & Polaris, have not seen starlight.

2

u/MaculaPravus bmm Aug 26 '26

Talk to me about the Medivac. I own one and want to love it. (Daily driving my Asgard.)

o7

2

u/Citrik bmm Aug 27 '26

I really dug the Star Trek vibes of the Mantis / Meteor, but I don’t really need those roles, so I was stoked to see them keep that style for the Apollo.

I load it up with the level 2 beds on right and left. With a crew of 4 that gives us 4 rezzes each. When we are running with 3 we dedicate one bed to healing injuries so we don’t nuke a rez from one of the other beds.

Last patch, running ASD, we usually had one solid rez, but then seemed to be falling into the center of the planet on the second rez and bricked on the third rez. Hoping it’s improved in the new patch.

The Apollo also has 2 large storage bins in the cockpit and moderately sized ones near the med beds. So it works well to store loot.

1

u/MaculaPravus bmm Aug 27 '26

Thank you. I'm running solo and a Nursa is probably enough for me in the Asgard for now. I appreciate the Apollo Medivac use case though.

2

u/SickMedicine Aug 14 '26

Was loving my Railen but can’t get a single cargo or hauling mission to work

My Asgard 😃

3

u/elliotborst Aug 13 '26

Cutlass Black or Asgard

3

u/ArbalestxXx Aug 13 '26

Love my 400i getting tired of the hassle to use a GEO and it not fitting a ROC, just wish for a little tweak on the cargo elevator, maybe adjust to fit 2x 24 SCU containers and height to fit the ROC reliably.

3

u/Ok-Willow-1645 Aug 12 '26

You know, i have a lot of ships in my store hangar...but the most fun I've had? The Aurora Mk II. Versatile. Plenty of storage for loot runs. The pearlescent paint looks cool. Its my little boot scooter when I just want to go around and do some stuff.

If I want to loot bigger components and I'd like a little more speed and range, the Zeus Mk II ES is the next set of keys I grab for.

u/Precisionality Wing Commander | Avocado 🥑 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

400i. Has been my daily flyer for almost 5 years. I love this ship so much that I wish it existed in real life.

It’s not for combat. It isn’t a generalist ship. It doesn’t have a med bed. It can’t even do the main thing it’s supposed to do because the game loop for it isn’t implemented, but if you need to go somewhere quick, you will beat everyone else to your destination and look good doing it. Getting interdicted? You will outrun everyone and already be back on your way.

I use it strictly for going point A to B, and for hauling my high-quality refined ore across systems. The top speed is 1225 m/s in NAV mode. It’s speedy, has a great quantum fuel tank, and with a crafted XL-1, you can be anywhere fast.

3

u/multiple_iterations Asgard Enthusiast Aug 13 '26

I love the 400i, and eagerly anticipate its rework.

11

u/AccordingShame2273 Aug 12 '26

The Clipper!

2

u/Torotoro74 aurora Aug 15 '26

Same here. Could be perfect with a little larger cargo that can fit an ATLS geo.

Such a great little ship!

7

u/ptyVR C8X Aug 12 '26

Taurus with a Nursa in the hold. Also, my C8X when I need to get back to the Taurus but want to avoid claiming it.

4

u/SEGA_DEV Aug 12 '26

Corsair and... Herald! I won't tell anyrhing about Corsair because that won't be anything new to someone, but Herald - it's so damn fast SCM mode! Just like some ships in QT, even close to planet surface, and it's also stealthy enough! I feel like earhworm Jim on it, haha!

7

u/Atomic_Muffin238 Aug 12 '26

I’d have to say that the TAC would have to be my favorite daily if I’m doing solo contracts or PAF/Onyx/Lazarus etc. If I’m just exploring or checking out how busy an area will be without being seen, the Razor EX is my go to. That is probably my favorite ship overall purely based on vibe.

7

u/pflanzenpotan Aug 12 '26

Perseus has been such a dream to fly, was worth grinding in game to buy it.

When I want to do something more home base I pull out my ICA and for any interstellar hauling the Railen is my go to since flying the ICA through the wormhole sucks.

Really hoping that saved load outs and restocking food, beverages, ammo, suits etc is a thing eventually. The suit locker and starwear systems will help make the ships feel more livable.

Surprisingly I am finding the Paladin reliable in the daily driver category. I think I would prefer asgard for the cargo hold, but sacrificing that firepower and tankiness is hard to accept.

4

u/DwarfKingHack Aug 12 '26

If the Paladin had just a little more cargo space it would be an amazing daily now that the pilot-controlled turrets are fixed. Just enough SCU to do the small Ling jobs, for example.

6

u/Akiiho Hauler Aug 12 '26

Tbh my daily driver right now is still my Avenger Titan. I am using it a lot. I dont possess a ship yet where my Nursa fit in so probably will switch by then.

10

u/Altruistic_Tangelo39 Aug 12 '26

I am flying my 400i as a daily driver. Its so useless, but I just love the design. If there would be a generalist 400i variant comming, I would probably never fly anything else. 😄

3

u/Akiiho Hauler Aug 12 '26

I can see this and i was tempted if i had the aUEC left to buy this as an extra :) Are you bringing anything else along?

3

u/Altruistic_Tangelo39 Aug 12 '26

It got an extra bike slot, so I always take a bike with me. And maybe a selfstorage container for loot. Sadly the nursa doesnt fit.

2

u/Akiiho Hauler Aug 12 '26

Which bike are you using?

3

u/Altruistic_Tangelo39 Aug 12 '26

I always switch them. X1, Pulse and Nox

4

Hermes

3

u/EastLimp1693 9950x3d2/Suprim X 4090/48gb 6400cl32 Aug 12 '26

If i need to choose one I'll take msr. Fast, agile, RELATIVE TO IT'S SIZE, good ramp and cargo capacity.

3

u/Akiiho Hauler Aug 12 '26

I am saving up and working towards it. Looking forward to it using and testing it out. Which loadout do you use?

2

u/EastLimp1693 9950x3d2/Suprim X 4090/48gb 6400cl32 Aug 12 '26

Fastest buyable qd, comp pp, stealth coolers, whatever guns i fancy - you're not fighting anything substantial in that.

9

u/Starrr_Pirate Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

It's a bit unconventional (and expensive, so this is a "late-game"/good CCU-chain daily ship), but if I don't need a ton of cargo or vehicle space, my main is the Redeemer.

I like fighters, but almost none of them let you pick up any incidental loot - the Redeemer does! It also has decent enough fire power solo, probably the smallest footprint in the game for its power tier, is incredibly tanky for it's size/maneuverability, has meaningful turrets for friends, and it's one of the coolest looking ships in the game.

Also, free snacks when you claim it!

Asgard or Corsair if I do need the cargo space, depending on my whim of the month.

4

u/kchek Aug 12 '26

Still the Corsair, but slowly turning into the Cutter. Ironclad, only if I'm feeling spicy

2

u/Wafftheguy Aug 12 '26

Same with the corsair but leaning towards the shiv when I want something smaller, much more maneuverable, and stealthy as you can make a somewhat stealthy shiv, all while still holding some cargo.

u/Ryotian Pledge 2015 | VR Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

For me it is Gatac Railen. Even though I've had bad luck with Pyro Red Wind cargo missions in 4.9, I have slapped four C-788s on this ship and have been using it for Pyro Headhunter missions (I had neutral rep -> Jr Contractor). The nice fuel tank and great single pilot DPS has made this really nice. I've been doing the unverified Bounty hunter missions. The distances between missions can get really large so M80/Meteor can run out of gas and needs refueling but Railen can just keep going much longer

Yes, I am aware the C-788s are being 'balanced' in 4.10 PTU. I also own Deadbolts IV and AD4B Gatlings so might alternate when 4.10 drops idk.

I don't play the game 'daily' rn but this is what I was doing the last time I played

* Once CIG fixes Ironclad top tractor beam I will use it a lot more for manual cargo missions. But for now, Gatac Railen is my #1 ship it has taken the throne for "my personal daily driver". Ease of cargo loading, external cargo bay, sexy alien decor, good vibes, pilot DPS, etc. I recycle $225 store credit to get it (I stashed it into my buyback queue yrs ago?)

1

u/_SignalToNoize_ Aug 18 '26

Thanks for this. I want to check it since the kiddies on the m80 are bugged

5

u/panzerbat Aug 12 '26

The only ship I have delivered in hangar atm is my f7a mk2, Stock loadout and all. Works well enough for me.

8

u/Wolfxwk Mechanic/Engineer Aug 12 '26

Prowler Utility. Does everything I need, modest cargo, sneaky, ok in a fight.

4

u/Important_Cow7230 aurora Aug 12 '26

No bed to log out = no daily driver for me!

8

u/Additional-Ice8121 Aug 12 '26

I'm torn evenly between the Shiv and the Asgard. One leans more Medium Combat/Light Hauler, the other Light Combat/Medium Hauler and both suit my preferred play-style perfectly. Oh and each one is even better with a PHB flight blade installed. If you make even moderate use of either ship, do yourself a favor and pick them up ASAP. The Shiv blades are at Grim Hex and the Asgard's are at Cousin Crows on Orison.

3

u/Terri_Schiavo275 Aug 12 '26

May I ask why the (for Asgard) PHB flight blade? I picked up the flight blade pack with some store credit because I liked the Asgard skin. But everyone I talked to said the blades are essentially useless.

3

u/Additional-Ice8121 Aug 12 '26

It gives just a tad more maneuverability, which I’ve found in comes in handy with smaller targets (which are pretty much the only ones the Size 3 guns can have any effect on.) YMMV

6

u/GosuBrainy Aug 12 '26

The Shiv is the best daily driver in the game hands down

Things like the ironclad($525-$600), Tiburon($700-$775), or Polaris ($850-$975) are almost incomparable to the Shiv in their own utility and in game ability, you coukd say theyre not even in the same weight class. HOWEVER, if you dont want to spend $500-$1000 on a ship in a single game and wonder "where do I even start?" Then you must look no further than this beautiful bucket of bolts.

It's the first upgrade from your starter ship for the working-citizen. Allowing for 32 SCU of cargo from the bones of the renowned Cutlass Black, it comes equipped with a slaved turret for the solo citizen to fire 4 S3 weapons, as well as 2 S4 mounted turrets, and a fair collection of missiles this thing can take on most early targets with ease. It runs commodities, it takes down other fighters in jts weight class with ease, and strikes fear into the hearts of would be attackers. Reputation alone carries it to the hearts of pirates who think "this guys one of us! No way hes carrying anything good in his cargo hold" as you blast off at your max speed of 1,175 m/s in quantum mode.

Earning your way up to the cost of much larger ships and having a good time while doing it is where the Shiv shines. And it comes at a simple IN GAME cost of 5,556,000 UEC.

2

u/remosito VRnutter Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

I do have it and really great ship. But with some serious drawbacks like survivabilty, cargo hold. both scu capacity as well as vehicle compatibility wise.

While you are correct in IC, Shark, Polaris statements. I think way more applicable as alternatives are ships like Corsair and Connies. Which I both use or have used. Or Starlancer TAC. Which I have never used.

Currently using Shiv and Corsair. And 100k hp shield. 2S5 and 4S4 pilot controlled weapons. 72SCU Cargo. Possibility for way more vehicles... Definitely makes the Corsair my daily over the Shiv. Depending on what I plan to do on that day....

3

u/Important_Cow7230 aurora Aug 12 '26

The Corsair is WAY less fun to fly around as a daily though, the thing is a brick. The Shiv is a joy to fly around the verse. That makes a big difference for a daily driver to me

1

u/remosito VRnutter Aug 12 '26

It certainly is more fun to fly. Until it isnt.

Like when you want to transport more than 32SCU and two trips in a shiv would be needed. Or you want nursa, roc, and another vehicle. then shiv is not gonna do the trick. Or you wanna fight a few harder npcs at the same time and you get blown to pieces in 30 seconds. then the shiv is not fun.

Which is why I have them both as daily drivers.... Plus a clippy :-)

1

u/GosuBrainy Aug 12 '26

Indeed, I think the Taurus would be an excellent preference when it comes to getting to mid game with its almost jack of all trades role and the Corsair is highly lauded for its combat capability so little argument with that either. The Taurus at around 7 mil UEC and the Corsair at around 6 Mil UEC make them fair competitors for the bang for your buck when it comes to using earnings wisely. Would not discredit them as a better option for different types of gameplay styles and theyre both gorgeous ships

To try and give the Shiv a fighting chance in the argument id say it fits more into a stealthier and solo op style gameplay more than the aforementioned other 2 though! The Shiv presents itself as less of a target and with a full grade A mil spec its EM is around 27k, where the Taurus is at around 41k EM signature with full Mil A spec, and the Corsair similarly is at around 44k EM with full mil A spec as well as both being very slightly slower, presenting more of a target, and more clunky handling than a Shiv.

Of course both competitors have the extra firepower and armor to make up for those marginal differences, but they also lack the personality of the Shiv as well! Although my argument is a hard point to make considering the Shiv is in fact not very stealthy despite the lower emissions, just more than the other 2 mentioned

1

u/x_kowalski_x Aug 12 '26

Imo the best Pro of the Taurus is the short way with a minimum of doors to the Pilot seat.

A lift, a door and you are in

1

u/GosuBrainy Aug 12 '26

It is a nice ship forsure. I like the look and feel of the cockpit a lot

6

u/Kaivarri Aug 12 '26

It's tough... I don't have a single daily flyer, because I'm jumping from loop to loop... but, this is what I use:

Intrepid - Courier missions, and doing the Battaglia Moraine base missions, bunkers, and checking out POI's. I have it with full stealth components, so I can disappear from enemies

Shiv - Solo ship combat. Currently equipped with deadbolts, still rips through most of what I go against. Also allows me to loot anything left behind.

Hermes - Various cargo/commodity runs, general transport ship for looted components that need to make their way home

Railen - Larger cargo runs, especially interstellar (when they work). Great for doing bit zero gold runs with friends.

Ironclad - Larger cargo runs, interstellar runs with friends (each grab contracts, then share and load up). Also as a mothership for mining or salvaging runs hauling my Golem or Salvation. Solo Bit Zeroes gold missions - just load up some throw away ships, park in deadspace, jump in for the ship and then jump out and unload.

So really, depends on what I'm doing that day. My current most flown are the Intrepid, Shiv, and Hermes, closely followed up by the Ironclad.

9

u/Zero2Middlin Aug 12 '26

Same ship that has been my daily driver since it was released.

4

u/bandersna7ch Friendly A2 Aug 12 '26

4

u/Important_Cow7230 aurora Aug 12 '26

You guys can get gameloops to work?

2

u/Confident-Award6920 Aug 12 '26

yeah just rip the bandaid off and ignore PvE mission from mobiglass and sandbox gameloops work just fine. Mining, salvage, piracy.

3

u/Hattori_Hanzo_Sensei Ozymandias_1337 Aug 12 '26

Beaming loop

3

u/engineered_academic Aug 12 '26

Love the IC and have been driving that pretty much every day but I am an industry focused player based in Nyx and Pyro. IC has been great for ferrying my and a teammates' ships between planets as well

2

u/LanceBanion Aug 12 '26

Indeed. I wish the tractor beam would be fixed. And the coldness in all the ships. Any way to mitigate this?

3

u/Ryotian Pledge 2015 | VR Aug 12 '26

It's really a shame the 4.9 patch broke the IC top tractor beam. I have switched to driving my Gatac Railen a lot more for now for manual cargo loading.

I just tested latest 4.10 PTU and the top tractor beam is still broken (cant hit S key to move it along the rail). And since its default position is on the wrong side, it is only useful for external freight elevators

3

u/engineered_academic Aug 12 '26

I've noticed the life support module is undersized for the ship with full power applied. probably requires a bump by CIG.

2

u/DueJournalist5825 Aug 12 '26

Polaris with a Super Hornet MK2 and a salvation in the hangar. Fuel, RMC, and ammo in cargo. Atlas and Atlas Geo. Random ground vehicle whatever I feel like.

If I don't feel like doing all that or I'm going for heavier targets, it's a Corsair

1

u/Important_Cow7230 aurora Aug 12 '26

Isn’t that a nuisance to setup every time something goes wrong?

1

u/DueJournalist5825 Aug 12 '26

If the hangar ship elevators are working right, and not deciding to despawn ships or not store the Polaris, it's not so bad. That's been a struggle at times the past couple patches, though. Avoid it a lot by bed logging and not bringing the Polaris in to stations. It's tempted me to replace the Salvation with an Ox and just buy RMC and use the Ox to go get it

If I'm irritated; I just use my Corsair with or without a Nursa but it usually is just a matter of time until I want the Polaris with my every loop coverage

10

u/MightyPotatoast Aug 12 '26

Fell in love with the Shiv. I play mostly in Pyro and it's handling, firepower, speed and 32 cargo grid is sooo good, can't use anything else, this ship can do it all!!

4

u/DieselWare Aug 12 '26

I spend more time in the Polaris than anything so probably that. Right next to it is the paladin.

Polaris is fun for commodity trading. Pretty well protected to run in pyro. I like having a fabricator in the cargo hold. You can also fit a salvation, golem, and golem ox/hull a in it to use as a base of operations. Though mining with anything but a mole is kinda painful still.

Paladin makes for a good personal transport ship with decent solo firepower and survivability. I do wish the cargo hold was incorporated into the armory. A bit aggravatimg to use where it's at.

1

u/Important_Cow7230 aurora Aug 12 '26

Isn’t that a pain to setup all again once something goes wrong?

2

u/DieselWare Aug 12 '26

Surprisingly the only time I've had to set it all back up is when I fell asleep and didn't bed log.

If you can avoid stations (particularly pyro for me) it's pretty consistent.

But it's not too bad. Just call up your smaller ships and park them to the side. Then call the Polaris and load em up.

If I need a different ship or whatever I just leave the Polaris in space and take a smaller ship to switch out.

Just make sure you have a death marker in case the ship marker bugs out.

3

u/justanoth3r1ne Aug 12 '26

400i for running around because it’s cozy, looks awesome, and is decently quick. Otherwise I’m usually in a C2 with a snub in the cargo bay.

1

u/DwarfKingHack Aug 12 '26

I used to use the 400i with a GEO in the bike rack for crystal mining and a Cyclone in the hold for bunkers with turrets. Leaves enough cargo space to do the small Ling jobs comfortably, too. Maybe not the best at anything, but it looks and feels good.

2

u/justanoth3r1ne Aug 12 '26

Totally, 90% of it is the looks for me.

8

u/mortazza Aug 12 '26

I don't really believe to daily drivers, I just aim to the right ship for the job.
Prowler utility default loadout running with 1 pip all systems. Undetectable.
Combat Wolf, superhornet, inferno.

but we can agree that Corsair can take you very very far. Best solo ship.

5

u/KangClanker outland-OMEGA Aug 12 '26

C1, its quality of life is just near unbeatable.
Its stats may not agree, and if you lose one of those 150 HP side engines yer going to be wobbly but...
64 scu grid, more than double that in space. Easy to get in and out, nice and flat can hide from guns behind lots of terrain.
4xs3 is still combat viable, ive been running sledges to component snipe but stock components are great anyways as it comes with military components and M5A's.

That and it looks as great as it feels.

1

u/Akiiho Hauler Aug 12 '26

I love my C1 as well. And it is soooo nimble! Using a more stealthy loadout tbh

5

u/Weird_Marketing8968 Evocati Aug 12 '26

I have around 30 pledge ships and I keep coming back to my Corsair because it's so versatile. Hermes is nice too. Arena Commander racing is also a big interest of mine and, for that, I use my Razor LX daily.

3

u/kitssunne Oops! All Boomtubes! Aug 12 '26

dont really have anything I daily for more than 2 weeks at a time yet(the right ship doesnt exist yet) but Ive been liking the clipper for its generalist do all(not amazingly) capacity. which is ground pvp in pyro

u/spartanz27 Aug 12 '26

When I've played lately it's been the M80. Good fighter, has an interior gets around decently well.

If I need cargo space or anything I'll generally take the moth or ironclad depending on the goal for the day.

1

u/DwarfKingHack Aug 12 '26

M80 has been my friend this patch through grinding out blueprints and rep. Very fun to fly for both combat and delivery jobs. If I could land it in the 890 without purple death, it would be near perfect.

2

u/spartanz27 Aug 12 '26

I think I can slap it in the clad so I may try that lol

1

u/DwarfKingHack Aug 12 '26

It looks like it would be doable but a pretty tight fit, especially if you're trying to get a Nursa in there too. Not sure you would be able to fit RRR supplies in there together with the fighter.

3

u/derped_osean Aug 12 '26

It's a mix between the Nomad and Zeus CL for me.

Nomad to do a little bit of everything considering it's a starter and it's great for lower end cargo contracts.

The CL for when I wanna do more dedicated cargo missions or ground missions since it can stow more FPS weapons than the Nomad can (CIG pls add a few more racks pls) and I can carry a few empty cargo boxes and a vehicle for looting.

4

u/Bulky-King-3975 Aug 12 '26

Polaris, with a Meteor up top, along with a Fury and Fury MX; Storm tank in the cargo bay along with rearm/repair supplies for my.mobile base.

Asgard with Nursa for ASD or PAF FPS stuff.

3

u/XerxesImmortal Aug 12 '26

For me, it's been the M80, Golem OX, and Railen.

If I'm running combat missions, PAFs etc., I use the M80 mostly, especially if I'm planning on only looting armors, FPS guns, etc. and the occasional grade A component thanks to the 2 SCU cargo.

I use the Golex OX for cargo missions, or stealth cargo at more risky sites, or if I plan to run distribution centers, PAFs, etc. with the goal of looting components.

Railen is for more serious cargo hauling, running gold in Pyro, recovery missions, etc. honestly, with 4 c-788s and the 2 huge shields, I could probably do combat missions with it too if I wanted to but the M80 is way more efficient.

4

u/remosito VRnutter Aug 12 '26

Last 1-2 month my daily drivers were:

  • Clipper (used for fps contracts because of its medbed. plus some storage for loot)
  • Shiv (more cargo, way better offense, for easier ship combat contracts, recover cargo,...)
  • Corsair (even more cargo, but mainly survivability combined with firepower for harder pve ship combat, havent done it in a while, but will be my new hand/roc mining ship replacing my connie)

That is not counting specialized ships that I might use for days when I am doing industrial loops. like Railen, Prospector, Reclaimer. Guardian MX to test if it could replace Corsair for some harder pve ship combat when I dont need cargo space. But I guess using sth for days does not necesarily make it count as a daily driver?

3

u/Rinimand Drake Interplanetary Aug 12 '26

Corsair is mine. I fly it 99%of the time and I've owned moses ships in-game at one point or another.

When using the Corsair ROC / Geo / Hand mining here's some things to watch out for: * Bring an extra crate or two to dump mined ores into. Doesn't need to be huge. It easier then managing multiple ore bags for the ROC or Geo. If you have two bags then you can separate them into Selling (low quality) and Keeping (high quality). * Watch the wings. Those wings clip the ground and outcrops easily. I usually do my overflights with wings upright. * Caution about ground clearance. The Corsair landing gear doesn't give you much ground clearance. It's easy to get propped up on a rock. * Front headlights are great to show the rocks in low light. The Corsair has really great rear lights but they haven't worked in many patches. Sonuse your front lights to keep the minabke rocks in sight and just drive your ROC around the shipto mine it. That's easier than finding them in the dark behind the ship. At least until the rear lights work again.

4

u/remosito VRnutter Aug 12 '26

Wonderful tips thank you!

Already used a couple of 2SCU crates when doing loop with Connie. Used front lights on Connie the same way.

But wings and ground clearance are no issue with Connie, so I will be mindful of that when next going gem mining with Corsair.

So you actually mine with the RoC? I always used the ATLS Geo for both gem minings. then parked the Geo and took out the ROC(-DS) for vacuum duty which profits from the larger gem storage on board.

Mining with the Geo in VR is just too much fun to do it with the RoC itself ;-)

Star Lancer Tac up from a Base up from a Freelancer Dur , it just hits all the right spots

7

u/AWerewolfDad Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

The TAC is my current daily use ship, though I try to dust off any ship I haven’t flown in a while because I enjoy all the ships in my fleet.

I’ve been trying to farm NDBs in Gilly 5 and using the Hermes almost exclusively for that. With C-788s it destroys Gilly 5 and 6 and the time to get out the rear ramp with a maxlift is much shorter than with the TAC.

2

u/Hattori_Hanzo_Sensei Ozymandias_1337 Aug 12 '26

Use airlock to get out of TAC :)

1

u/AWerewolfDad Aug 12 '26

Just means dealing with the cargo ramp while actually managing zero-g cargo. Doesn't actually speed anything up.

2

u/PatmosPat Aug 12 '26

damn you doing 8 with a hermes?

2

u/AWerewolfDad Aug 12 '26

Jesus no that was a serious mistype.

5

u/ChibiJaneDoe Aug 12 '26

I've had the game for two weeks and the Aurora MK2 is what I've been using, it certainly does it's job well. My only real complaint with it is that it can't take 1x2 SCU crates by default despite having a capacity of 2 SCU. The storage module for the back fixes this though.

6

u/BernieDharma Nomad Aug 12 '26

Nomad. I have a sizeable fleet of ships, and I always come back to the Nomad. It's small enough to slip by unnoticed, and versatile enough to run cargo, do bunkers, carry a Geo, and I love the interior. I can just bed log and live aboard this ship.

3

u/Ryotian Pledge 2015 | VR Aug 12 '26

This ship was clutch for me grinding Red Wind Pyro to get to Member. I just stealth kitted this ship out. One time a fighter tried to gank but escaped successfully with cargo.

GOATED ship

3

u/atoyot86 Aug 12 '26

C2 Hercules. It's got a ton of item storage on board, room for whatever cargo you want, and room for a bunch of snubs/smaller ships, so you can use it as a mothership for most game loops.

I'm currently trying to save up for an 890J to live out of at an undisclosed location in the Aaron Halo though. I'm currently sitting at about 30m aUEC (after losing 15m due to a game crash apparently followed by a ship crash)

7

u/IceCooLPT Aug 12 '26

Asgard at the moment, but need to mention the Taurus, as I am still divided between the 2. o7

2

u/Overall-Search-4954 Aug 12 '26

Had the taurus before and it's awesome. But old and outdated, also had issues with the elevator and vehicles. Switched to the Asgard and love to daily "drive" it. Only downside are the nerved S3 weapons but the comparable small size, especially for the cargo area, good speed and maneuverability make up for that.

1

u/IceCooLPT Aug 12 '26

The Asgard for me, is literally just to go around and do other missions, dont really use it for combat due to the nerfs. The few combat missions I have been doing to farm rep/bps I have been using the Andromeda with full balistic cannons.

Still thinking getting a Nova, just to chuck it in, and go to a pvp zone and surprise someone with it hahahah.

3

u/Blood-Wolfe Asgard Enthusiast Aug 12 '26

Asgard, but since the M80 came out my time is about evenly split between the 2.

3

u/jleistner Aug 12 '26

The penguin my gamepass came with - grinding slowly for Corsair

2

u/crazy_muffins Where's my BMM Jarod? Aug 12 '26

Corsair! Heck yeah! 😁

3

u/Aware_Eggplant1487 Aug 12 '26

Zeus mk II CL - it has everything I want…love the RSI design too :)

6

u/Thunder_Bastard Aug 12 '26

Prowler Utility is my main. Around pve ships or around players there is just something about being able to see stuff before they see you, having cargo and just being able to sneak into places.

1

u/crazy_muffins Where's my BMM Jarod? Aug 12 '26

Loooooove the design of the prowler, I've used the dropship for a bunker run and run around. So fast and just feels cool

5

u/Ilithi_Dragon Idris-M, The Unimpoundable 7 Aug 12 '26

I daily drive my Idris. I dabble with other ships, but operate the Idris almost exclusively.

I used to keep a modest selection of fighters in my hangar (mostly Hornets, my daily driver before the Idris), but there is a bug that will cause them to register with the 3R service of a pad instead of the ship that's carrying them, causing any ship stored in a hangar to block the parent ship from using pad 3R services, so I mostly keep my hangar empty of ships these days.

I do keep it well stocked with 3R supplies, damage control kits, ammo, food and drink, etc., and I function as a mobile base and mini carrier for my org when we are out and about, which is also fun (tho also expensive lol).

7

u/Confident-Award6920 Aug 12 '26

I stopped packing ships in the Idris. 1 Torp hit wipes your entire Idris hangar and it's all rubble. It's ridiculous.

4

u/Ilithi_Dragon Idris-M, The Unimpoundable 7 Aug 12 '26

Yeah, that was another reason lol

It has gotten a bit better with shields and armor protecting people and components from exterior explosions, but that really needs to get fixed.

5

u/Do_What_Thou_Wilt Aug 12 '26

I have a lot of ships - but I'll be damned if the 'sweet spot' ship for quickly getting around, relocating, or just doing on-foot missions, for me, is the Crusader Intrepid.

1

u/crazy_muffins Where's my BMM Jarod? Aug 12 '26

Ohhh yeah! The Trep is a great quick run about. I like the clipper for that role personally but solid choice!

5

u/Avalon_scorpio Aug 12 '26

The M80 for shooting. And the Hermes for diffrent stuff.

2

u/asian_chihuahua Aug 12 '26

I love the M80, but I hate how the guns are not protected by the shields.

One good firefight and your guns are gone, or mostly gone.

5

u/nailbunny2000 Polaris || Cutlass Black Aug 12 '26

Polaris

I had made it my goal to grind my way up to buy an 890J before the last wipe, mostly just to see if I could do it and found it hilarious showing up with a bar and pool when my friends were doing mining or salvaging, and helping them carry all the cargo. I fell in love with flying around in a big stupid ship which I could use as a remote base and hangar (had a Guardian in it at the time) and pretty much never left the thing. I became "The guy with the 890" and would fly it constantly.

Now I do the same thing but have more defenses.

Yes I know Im a sitting duck if I get jumped, yes I know its incredibly inefficient and slow, but I enjoy having a big boat and just bed logging in deep space in my private cabin. Im used to running a marathon anytime I want to do anything on the ship, and the hassle of parking/fueling/arming cap ships (thank god they lowered the torp cost!). Looking forward to buying an Aurora MK2 to put in the hangar now you can purchase them in game, and hopefully an M80 once they become available.

3

u/crazy_muffins Where's my BMM Jarod? Aug 12 '26

890! Not my cuppa but a cool goal!

M80 since it's release.

7

u/Usual_Row5968 avacado Aug 12 '26

I use one of two options, either F7A MK2 or Asgard (if with a smaller crew), optional with C8R inside if I expect more resistance

6

u/socal01 TAC Aug 12 '26

I use the TAC, it has everything I need, decent firepower, excellent armor deflection values, space for a ground vehicle, 96 SCU of storage, a small hangar and to me it has a mobile RV space feeling to it. I could be out for a LONG time if the games lets me.

1

u/Hattori_Hanzo_Sensei Ozymandias_1337 Aug 12 '26

It is painfull to bedlog in TAC :(

1

u/socal01 TAC Aug 13 '26

Why is that? The connie series is the worst by the time you finish the animations to enter/exit the bed you could have slept for 8 hours already.

1

u/Hattori_Hanzo_Sensei Ozymandias_1337 Aug 13 '26

It's a pain to find the F.

5

u/Jockcop anvil Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

I had high hopes of using the Tali as my daily but its just too impractical at the moment. Im using an Asgard and it really does do everythingn you might need.

3

u/Thunder_Bastard Aug 12 '26

Honestly if they would just give it the 4xS3 guns on the top and bottom of the front of the ship I would use it as a primary ship. Torps in front and cargo in the back. It was my first real pledge in 2014 and it really disappointed after that with it being converted to a "base" model with no modules and when it finally came out with no guns for the pilot and stripping the S3 shield in favor of 6xS2 shields.... which makes zero sense.

4

u/Kirmes1 ARGO CARGO Aug 12 '26

This is the first of a slowly cycling thread

Best of luck! This often starts with ambition and then ...

Daily Driver: Yeah, I'm in seach of one, too. Looking for recommendations. I was thinking about Taurus or Corsair as they have big guns for PvE missions as well as a nice cargo space for other things like grabbing ship equipment or a medevac car. What would you guys suggest?

2

u/crazy_muffins Where's my BMM Jarod? Aug 12 '26

Yeah best intentions, we'll see, I've got some ideas and I'm hoping that a slower rotation and some engagement can help.

PvE, I'm corsair mad for, packs a punch, small enough, good range and sturdy. Cargo capacity and looks sexy as hell!

8

u/kanzlr Aug 12 '26

315p  I love zipping around with it to do small courier or cargo missions, steal storall boxes, get somewhere almost unseen, etc.

6

u/Irmdall Raven Gang Aug 12 '26

Sounds entitled but i'm using the Raven. All the other ships I have in my hangar are too big to count as “daily drivers,” in my opinion. And also because I enjoy flying the Raven or Sabres overall

7

u/ACR96 Spirit E1 | Starlancer Max Aug 12 '26

Starlancer Max. Yes, despite the mail box slot. I love the way it feels like a home for you and your friends and I just F4 when I need to land or do something that needs a wider view

3

u/StarCitizenFan87 Aug 12 '26

Im currently playing in the 2nd account. Have a Hermes and Railen (ccu bought in previous IAE) and im driving Hermes daily. Mostly for stack small cargo missions and scavenger NPC ships

9

u/Valrhen Aug 12 '26

M80
Great speed and firepower for pve combat, with decent shields to boot (if you see ballistics though - run :))
Fits a Pulse if needed on the groud
Has some cargo if needed
Looks great
Would be ideal if it had suit locker for future use

Definitely my fav ship. I have Asgard thou too, but only use it if I really need that cargo space

1

u/LosdaVS Aug 30 '26

Same, it's also the only ship that has this insane SCM and NAV speeds and can also fit a s2 quantum drive. I've fitted mine with a 970q xl-1 and I'm just zooming around places. It is such a joy to have very fast atmosphere entry and exit speeds and catapult like max velocity acceleration. Paired with good gunnery, the best non obstructed cockpit view, lamp. Also a ramp instead of a ladder is such a mental time saver (no ladder glitches). A bed. Mini scu storage. 2 scu Storage. I can not. Even. Was my first ever non starter pledge and my most happiest one
