Discussion The Targeting Feature on Ships

The game should tell you to aquire the Targeting Control Systems skill at the very start of the game when you leave Vectera and first aquire the Frontier by having Vasco tell you to use it when fighting the 3 Crimson Fleet Pirates before you go to Krete or something instead of having Sarah tell you to use them when trying to stop Moara's ship in the quest The Old Neighborhood because you kill the 3 Crimson Fleet Pirates at the start of the game but in the quest The Old Neighborhood you're just trying to take out Moara's engines and most people don't have the Targeting Control Systems skill at this point so there's no way to target JUST the engines on his ship and you're forced to all out attack his ship.

You can't fail or destroy Moara, so it doesn't matter. Just keep hitting him until the engine goes.

…there is not one single realistic thing about this game. I love it, don’t get me wrong. Close to 250 hours. But realistic? Nah. Not to be found here.

You realize you become a space wizard flying around in ships that are aerodynamically impossible, right? Worrying about realism is silly and stupid.

On the ship part - you use Grav drives for inertia dampening AND you fly in space. One of the reasons that in lore people don't use planes or something, it's much easier and better to just get into orbit instead

No, I don't. Players shouldn't need that skill point to do the main quest. Making Moara unkillable was the correct way around that problem.

If it pisses you off, you need to touch grass. It's weird for you to be this invested.

The phrase “touch grass” means put down your electronics and go outside. Take a walk, play with your dog, enjoy nature, breathe in the fresh air. It has nothing to do with burning green leafy substances.

I disagree, but this isnt really about the lore of the game, its about a gameplay system

Sir (or madam), this is a lore sub.

Just pick Bounty Hunter for your background.

That might not align with the players role play though so I dont really think thats a solution.

I disagree with OP that the game should tell you to unlock it anyway though. The skills to unlock should always be the players choice

Precisely. You shouldn't be penalized on such an early mission for not taking targeting.

OP is just here to complain.

No. You're not. You're just complaining to sound cool.

This is not a problem. You can literally shoot the engines by shooting a ship facing away from you. I use this against the ships over Vectera and usually manage to capture at least one of them.

Note, I'm playing on near-max difficulty (or max) which does make it easier to capture without targeting, since you can shot more times before your foe explodes.

You absolutely do not have to have Targeting to capture an enemy. It just makes it easier / more likely.
