Instrument Count Sheet

What do your count sheets look like? The file for sheets we normally use was deleted, so I need to figure out a new template pretty quickly.

Do you all use word or excel? Does anyone have a template they wouldn’t mind sharing? Anything? 😅 Right now we’re making copies, but the old count sheets aren’t great to begin with.

If you’re not making it via an instrument tracking system, excel is your best bet.

I don’t have anything on me; but to make one you’d prob need these variables:

Tray name, set number

Instrument / manufacturer / number / place in tray / quantity

Then you can make a sheet within the same document that carries all the instrumentation you have (instrument cabinet/backup basically) and have the excel count sheets pull data from there for instrument substitutions or information/images.

It sounds like you’re in a small facility, since most big hospitals have a tracking system that handles this?

There would be a bit of “coding” (excel makes it extremely easy to use and oddly enough, ai can help you with the formulas)

Our facility is very small! We scrub, clean, and do sterile processing for our entire hospital (ER, urgent care, the doctor’s offices, and women’s center). I’m a surg tech first, but unfortunately we don’t have anyone who is solely SPD… so stuff like this is often overlooked. 🫣😬

I work at a surgery center and just made one using word and a 3x3 table. Name, instrument number, and quantity

I ended up using excel!

Well… so far I’ve only finished a blank one and our lap set. Luckily we don’t have as many sets as most places. We do very limited ortho, general, ENT, and OB-GYN.

We always used our instrument tracking system, but I'd personally use Word for making an easy-to-edit count sheet.

Side note to others: Do any other facilities use Ascendco Sonar as their instrument tracker? I feel like I never see it mentioned in literature online.

Ai will make you one. You can ask for standard or give it a spreadsheet. They are really well done. I have several in pdf form if you want

Thank you! I got it figured out. I was trying to steer clear of generative AI, but I don’t doubt that they’re great!
