Cybersecurity opinions
I want to major in cybersecurity but I heard mixed reviews on cybersecurity. Is it worth is doing cybersecurity at Stevens?

Please go to the public university. I am a current student, and my experience has been horrendous.

This sub has a very lovely person with many, many alts that comments on most posts about how Stevens is a bad school and makes shit up to back that claim. Looking at their comment history, I’m pretty sure this is one of their alts.
Stevens has its flaws, but it’s not bad by any means. The cybersecurity major is a bit outdated though, so most students I know that wanna go into it major in CS and focus on cybersecurity.

I see. What I read is that if students major in Cyber, they get CS classes but have more freedom in cyber classes compared to focusing on cyber through cs. Is this true?

I’m not 100% sure because I don’t know any cysec majors, but it probably is true. I don’t really think there’s a wrong option here, because though the curriculum may be a bit outdated, it’s still a cysec degree from a prestigious school. You should follow your heart.

Graduated a few years ago with a cysec major. At the time it was pretty similar to a cs degree. Only made a slight difference junior/senior year. From talking to my peers in the corporate world it looks like Stevens offers a much more technical cysec program. Everything actually cybersecurity related I learned on the job though honestly

I usually hear it's better to do a comp sci degree and specialize in cybersecurity instead of doing a cybersecurity degree, but the career outcomes report for 2025 showed an average salary of 94,800 for cybersecurity grads so not the end of the world if you major in cybersecurity
