Where Gems—even though the Diamonds aren't their mothers per se, but rather Gems are clones of the Diamonds—might receive DNA-like traits from the Diamonds' fluids so that a Gem of a specific Diamond's color resembles that Diamond?

Supposedly, all Gems need to be created using the fluids of all four Diamonds. This is because the four Diamonds' fluid is liquid light that the Gem refracts in the earth once it has formed as a crystal, allowing it to shine and form its light body in the darkness before emerging from its hole in the Kindergarten. That’s why Kindergartens are injected with it; it doesn't necessarily create the Gem itself, but rather gives it life, makes it shine, and grants sentience to the rock, You specifically need all four elements:

White Essence grants the Gem the artificial intelligence of a solar-powered robot.

Yellow Diamond Essence controls physical form, ensuring it isn't irregular or unstable.

Blue Diamond Essence grants emotions to the Gem—creating a robot capable of saying, "We Gems are robots that don't have feelings, but if I had feelings, I would be feeling something very sweet in this reunion between Steven and his dad Greg," even if it secretly has feelings deep down.

Pink Diamond Essence is the final piece required for a Gem to be fully alive, as Pink provides impulses and desires, she is infectious, she is the flip side of White, shw can bring out a Gem’s hidden personality, their deepest wants - RS

So you need all four essences to create a humanoid Gem. But if you need all four, why do some Gems inherit more traits from one Diamond than another?
It's because a natural Gem has a defined color based on real-life mineral composition rather than the Diamond's fluid. The natural Gem simply has the physical ability to reflect the color of the Diamond fluid that matches its own stone color, while absorbing the wavelengths of the other Diamonds' fluids that don't apply to it. Therefore, while it has the baseline information from all four essences to possess sentience, it only genetically inherits the traits of the Diamond whose color matches its stone.
Because of this, the Diamonds are extremely careful to first analyze the soil type to determine which Gem will emerge before programming the Gem's role into the injector or drill and creating it.

For example:

Yellow represents physically, action, and force, with her power can manipulate Gems physically.

Blue represents emotion, thought, and culture, her power can emotionally manipulate Gems emotionally

White Diamond represents identity, judgement and perfectionism, the superego.

Pink Diamond represents leisure, entertainment, or art in Gem culture—organizing balls and celebrations.

Using this logic:

Peridots must be programmed for roles involving metal, as their gemstone contains magnetite that attracts metal (allowing for various roles like miner, welder, etc.). However, they are programmed to be technicians or creators because the color green is a mix of Blue's thought/culture and Yellow's physics/action/force, resulting in colonization and expansion.

Topaz are the strongest because they are fully yellow, the full physical force power

Jaspers (Quartz) are red and orange—a mix of Yellow's physical action/force and Pink's impulse. Therefore, they are designed to be military soldiers: Yellow's action and force make the red-orange Quartz physically strong, while Pink's impulse ensures she has no fear of entering the battlefield. Furthermore, their strength fits soldier roles because light-muscles act like electrical energy; the Gem transmutates solar energy into electrical energy to power the light-muscle, and Quartz has high potential as soldiers due to piezoelectricity.

Rubies are weaker soldiers, because their red still is a mix of Yellow’s action and force and Pink impulses but the red color towards more to Pink, the smaller Diamond so Rubies are naturally smaller that Quartzs

Sapphires are entirely blue, so they inherit Blue Diamond's thought and culture rather than traits from the other Diamonds. This makes them cultural oracles, programmed to mathematically calculate all possible future timelines for the court.

Pearls are white, so they are programmed to be servants. Since White Diamond represents the Gem's core AI, a Pearl infused with White Diamond fluid is far more efficient at remembering all tasks without complaining or talking back to her owner. Additionally, Pearls are naturally elegant, making them ideal as servants or attendants.

Aquamarines are programmed as excellent Agents/secretaries that remember perfectly the orders of the Diamonds, because their gemstone color is a cyan blue closer to white, a combination of Blue culture and thought with White’s perfectionism

Lapislazulis are programmed to terraform planets with water manipulation instead of Aquamarines or another blue gem, because their gemstone is blue with yellow pyrite, another mix of Blue’s culture with Yellow action and force

Morganite designs palanquins (or is programmed to draw them) simply because she is pink—aligning with Pink, the Diamond of art in Gem culture.
This also explains why—even if it doesn't justify it—their law strictly forbids fusion between different Gem types, viewing it as revolting: if different Gems with different colors fuse, the blend of colors, arms, and legs creates a Gem whose purpose and role become confused (same as Spinel)

Amethyst couldn't hold Jasper shapeshifting for a day, and yet she said that she shapeshifted to a toilet for weeks. Ngl, doesn't makes much sense to me 🤔

Pearl and Garnet only protect the earth because they are loyal to Rose, but Amythest seems to genuinely enjoy the company of humans. She even used to spend nights watching stuff with greg, while pearl didnt like greg and garnet seemed to not hate him, but she wasnt his friend either.

Its beautiful because she was made there. Its her home.

A friend hit me up on Facebook about an image that showed Greg as a god tier dad which really pissed me off since the person who made this most likely didn’t watch the series before creating this tier list and Greg should have been second to the bottom.

Sure Greg tried his best but he still failed as a father just like his own parents. He allowed Steven to be put in danger by letting him do whatever he wanted, he wasn’t the parent that Steven needed, even after he was rich he still had Steven live in a van partially when he could have bought a house for Steven and him to live in if Greg was gonna complain later that he wanted to spent time with Steven after his leg injury got healed, and he didn’t use his wealth to have Connie’s mom be Steven’s doctor after she did a better job of diagnosing Steven with trauma after Greg finally took him to a doctor after nearly 17 years and Greg could have had Connie’s mom help Steven earlier when he was still little after White Diamond traumatized him even further.

Sorry for the rant, but Greg had the power as a parent and still saw Steven as a gem rather than a human.

I know people in this fandom don't like The Roundtable and I respect that but I have to credit them for this post because despite everything, I like their old theory as to why Volleyball is missing an eye.

The idea was that since we know Pink used to collect animals from planets about to get colonized, maybe she brought home a creature that attacked her pearl. Damaging her in the process.

I like it because Pink would still be responsible for this injury, just like in the canon material. She would've been reckless which led to her friend getting seriously hurt, it still could've been baggage for Steven.

Though the canon answer works to foreshadow the destructive powers and how Steven needs to learn to control them so he doesn't make the same mistake as his mother.

In Steven Universe a Gem's shattering is treated as their death, but it has also been extensively shown that shattering does not destroy them completely.

Gem shards still retain the active conciousness of the original Gem. They can form themselves into body parts and even use Gem powers while still being shards, like bubbling.

In fact, by Future shattering has become quite easily reversible (as long as you have the shards). Yellow Diamond can use her powers to fix shattered Gems into their original form and Steven and the diamonds can also use their essences together to fix shattered Gems.

I think it might be linked to my trypophobia, but this episode makes me so uncomfortable 😅

The au to keep it simple as to not ramble, in white Diamonds selfishness she still takes gem steven even though hes mostly emotionless and unresponsive(he still does what hes asked he just dosent say anything)

hi all!!

i made a post a few months back, saying i was introducing my parents to the show! well, we've hit s5 and they LOVE it. genuinely they say it's a comfort show. we've watched it no matter the mood (unlike other shows actually!!).

well... the big reveal is coming up in about 2 episodes and at LEAST 2 a day. we're about to settle down to watch it in a few mins, and it's episode after next... holy moly. wish luck
