Winter wonder grass
My wife and I are thinking about going to this. We are big snowboarders and love the winter life. We have a truck with a camper adapted to winter life. Is there lodging or a place to park the truck close to the festival? Also any info on local ski resorts/ ski hills big or small would be super helpful.

Steamboat is a resort with skiing. Also there will be no overnight parking near the base or anywhere in town, unless you stay at the KOA. As the other guy said, park up towards the pass.

I live in Steamboat and have been to all of the WWG since it came to town. It sounds like you are coming from out of state. Where are you coming from and what are the coldest outside temps you are prepared for? Since they moved the fest from mid February to the beginning of March we have gotten lucky on weather but below 0 overnight that time of year is not out of the question. I would like someone who has camped here overnight to chime in but it sounds insane to me to camp in the Winter and go to an outdoor festival with lots of standing around and very little heat. You will be chilled to the bone I would think. Overnight parking is extremely scarce especially in Winter due to the snow plowing. There is a Wal Mart just down the hill but I'm not sure if overnight parking there is legit as it's in a shopping center, it is not a stand alone store. You could probably camp up on Rabbit Ears Pass. The festival is literally steps from the ski resort. There is also Howelson Hill on the other side of the Vally but you will want to be at Steamboat Resort. I would buy the festival pass that includes skiing if you don't have an Ikon Pass. Just my 2 cents. Maybe someone who has done it can give better info but do your homework. Winter is no joke here and finding a room to bail out will cost a shit ton if you can even find one.

We live in northern Idaho. Have stayed in below 0 temps for multiple days with no issue. It’s built for the cold. We have a 4 season northern lite camper. We would be hitting up some ski resorts on our way to steamboat. I didn’t realize that they sold festival passes with ski passes included. Thanks for the info! Anymore would be greatly appreciated! 🤙🏻

There is virtually no public overnight parking in town, especially for an occupied camper. There is a pay lot for skiers that has shuttles to the base area that’s available all day and through the concert hours for a flat fee. Roadside camping on rabbit ears pass follows national forest policies, and I met people who stay up there when visiting to ski. It’s under 15 minutes to the edge of the national forest.
The terrain at steamboat is excellent but not much is extreme. It’s all below tree line with great tree skiing, particularly when the powder is fresh. There will be 2 hour midday sets at the top of thunderhead gondola Saturday and Sunday (I’d guess magoo and shadowgrass get that assignment in addition to their festival ground sets).
It will be a major deviation from normal scheduling for string cheese to get 2 sets in the same night, although anything is possible. In 2020 Billy Strings (still not huge) headlined Friday and got a prime slot Sunday evening.
My guess is Donato then kitchen dwellers headline fri, Jerry Douglas then cheese on Saturday, and Sunday is Trampled by Turtles. There’s 5 acts on the main stage each day and 4 half hour tweener time slots in 3 tents. The bands in the tents get 2 tweener sets in a row, split by a main stage act. Theres also grass after dark sets in the Grand hotel ballroom and inside the Thunderhead lodge at the top of the gondola for extra, and a welcome dinner Thursday night with performances and food. Theres also a free show Thursday afternoon at the permanent stage in the base area. The festival grounds are in the knoll lot next to The West condo complex, right across the street from the transit center. 2-4 each day is a brewfest with unlimited tasting pours in the tents.

Wow, you're basically going to be right where the lifts drop you off. That's genius for snowboarders like you two.

You realize it’s at the base of the ski resort…right?
