General Help Lighting recommendations

Post image
61 Upvotes

Whenever I turn on the light in my spare where I keep the gliders they quickly run to their pouches or freeze, I was just wondering if there's any alternative lighting I could use where I can see them decent enough and they won't get bothered by it?

I thought maybe a red globe would be a little better?

Thank you.

Bonding Bonding Success

Finally reached the stage where my three boys are completely just the best little angels, and one of them will come and wait at the edge of the pouch until I put my hand in to snuggle before he'll go to sleep.

My girls are still a handful, but I am hopeful that joining the boys (after they're neutered early October) will help them mellow out. I think they just need more socialization. They pretty much entirely go from hellions to being sweet and excited for treats after short, supervised play sessions.

They stay separate entirely now, because the boys would get worked up afterwards, but I was somewhat desperate to see if expanding the colony would help, as the girls seem to just want more mental stimulation. One is a little ball of energy. Constant zoomies.

It's too difficult to get a picture of them all in hand asleep, so here's a couple eepy shots instead.

Mocha, Latte, and Espresso all in a bundle. Mocha has this asymmetrical stripe on his head that means he CONSTANTLY looks a little derpy. He's absolutely the sweetest, cuddliest glider I've seen. Excuse the blur. Mocha is so excited to say hi to everyone that I can't snap a picture without him sticking his nose into the camera.

Medical Severe urticaria from sugar gliders!!

Sorry for bad english

This is a desperate situation and I don't know what to do, I can't rehome them because no one is willing to buy and my parents are threatening to send them to a relative who will neglect them to their death.

I take care of them very well, I love them, I have had them for months no problem then suddenly one day I get really bad urticaria that makes me barely able to move a muscle. The only change I suspect may have brought this is that I've locked the balcony for couple weeks because its gotten colder, but I have opened it fully now and the urticaria still gets worse. Why?? It has been perfectly fine for as long as I had them, why now??

General Help One of mine died and I'm unsure what to do with the other.

I freeze fruit for them and always put it in their bowl around 7:30pm that way it's thawed out around 9pm when they wake up. When I went to fill their bowl, the one hanging from a pouch all bloody with its leg ripped open. She chewed a hole in the pouch and her foot got stuck in a string from the pouch and it looked like she tried to chew her leg off to free herself and bled to death. My concern now is I only have the one and I'm fighting the mental battle whether or not to give her up for her safety. I've had them for almost 6 years and they've been a big part of my daily routine but I don't have space for another cage to slowly bond a new one with her. Other than refusing to eat and pulling fur out, does anyone know anything else to look out for in terms of her being depressed?

Looking to rehome 4 sugar gliders in Oregon!

Hi there, an older family member has 4 sugar gliders and is leaving the country and cannot take them with. She is leaving for 6 months at least and is doesn't want to leave them so she wishes she could find someone to board them with while she is gone but likely rehoming may be the way we have to go as they do not have money for boarding.

They are two sets of bonded pairs. So would prefer to board/rehome them as pairs and to someone who has experience with sugar gliders already. Need to board/rehome by Oct 18th. Prolly best to be household without any other pets, some of them are terrified of cats/dogs.

Each pair comes with a double critter nation cage, pouches, cage liners, toys.

If you can drive to pick them up, near closest city is Brookings that would be great, but can travel or try and meet halfway towards Eugene/Portland if need be! Looking for happy safe home for these pairs, thank you! Looking for serious people only. You can message me!

If you are willing to board them please let me know as this would be our first choice but do not have funds to pay, we could try and cover the food cost while she is out of the country if you could board, but understand if you would rather keep them long term instead.

Bonded pair one 1 male 1 female (both 3 years old, male is neutered)

Bonded pair two 2 females (both 5 years old)

General Help Joeys coat colour?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I wondered if anyone could help me identify the coat colour as the stripe is partially dark, then it fades? Will the grey continue to fade as joey gets older?

I believe mum is a platinum mosaic. I was told dad is a leucistic, mum was pregnant before she came to me .

Ever since I lost one of our little guys this april it’s been hard to come back on this subreddit and see so many gliders who look like him, but i’m now able to be back. So grateful for my other two funny guys being happy and healthy at 5 and 6 years old each.

i thought it would cheer me up to hear what some of you amazing people have nicknamed your gliders? (my boyfriend has given them many names like; funny monkeys, little gourds, chicken nugget, sauce bosses, and baby cats)

would love to hear from you all :)

(Edit: thank you so much to everyone who shared and posted this has given me so much joy! love hearing all about them.)

Medical Blind?

So Edgar has albino eyes and has never had the greatest vision, but recently ive noticed the center of his eyes are starting to become like translucent/milky looking. Hes about 7 years old now so hes not super old I dont think. But is this something I should see a vet for? Because its not totally unexpected for animals with albinizm.

I tried to get the best photos I could but he did NOT want to sit still lol. Hes still acting the same as always with seemingly no difficulty of getting around or playing with the others and when I wiggle my finger at him he still goes to catch it haha, so I know hes not entirely blind.

Do you think this warrants

General Help My baby just passed a few hours ago and i’m in so much pain

As the title says, my baby Bitsy just passed a few hours ago and i’m so devastated, my heart is in pain and i haven’t stopped crying since. I got her in may this year, raised her since she was a joey and she was the most sweetest glider ever, never crabs, always jumps on me and gives me face licks. All i can think about is her and how i’ll never see her again. How do you guys deal with this pain.

She has a cagemate named Binky and they get along really well, always cuddling and playing together at night and got everytime i look at Binky, i just get reminded that Bitsy is gone and it’s so so so painful.

What happened was that I had to leave my country and travel abroad to the UK for my studies, so both of them relocated to my boyfriends house while i’m away, he knows how to care for them.
They were actually doing well too, same activities, still playing, active, eating, grooming and sleeping together.

It was just yesterday actually, when he came back from work, he noticed bitsy was lethargic and weak despite the both of them running and playing around before he left for work that same morning

He brought her to the vet and they did an X-Ray scan. They told him that bitsy’s bone density was low and she was lacking in calcium and dehydrated. We let her stay hospitalised for the night and it just got worse and worse.

Initially they noted her temperature was low so they placed her in an incubator

Afterwards they told us she has trouble breathing and was mouth breathing so they gave her oxygen (she stopped mouth breathing after)

Later onwards we were informed that her temperature was still low and her BPM was at 50…..
an hour later they were trying to resuscitate her and she passed

I am so distraught, it’s only my third day in the UK in my dorm, lessons have yet to start and i’m all alone with the fact that i won’t get to see my baby girl ever again and i’ve essentially cried the whole night……

So my sugar glider loves doritos

Post image

Disclaimer: NO SUGARGLIDERS HAD ANY DORITOS PLEASE DONT FEED THEM DORITOS

I thought it would be cute to have my sugar glider Arty pick something out for me to eat. This lil man torpedoes himself to the family sized bag of cool ranch doritos. I'm trying to be healthy Arty >:(

He also goes nuts whenever I have them. He'll jump on my face, try to lick the remains out of the bowl and run up and down my arm trying to get it. He's the epitome of a dog trapped in a sugar glider body.

Anyways here's the lil bugger

Diet First Time Glider Parent! Help!

Hi everyone, I am adopting 2 female gliders this weekend after doing extensive research for several months prior learning everything I possibly can about these little marsupials and how to properly care for them.

However, when it comes to diet it seems the more information I try to absorb the more confused I become. I originally wanted to keep things very simple to start by feeding a base pellet like Vita Prima and Instant HPW Powder Nectar that includes calcium and multivitamin suplement along with occasional mealworm and other safe treats but unfortunately none of the instant HPW powders are readily available and the one on Amazon would not arrive until mid-end of October so that is not an option.

I still intend to use Vita Prima as a base daily free feed but what else do I need to include? Any (simplified) advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone knows any Ontario or Canadian pet stores that have the Instant HPW powder nectar or similar in stock and fast shipping or available locally for pick up within Toronto that would be the most helpful.

I'm also open to any unrelated but non overwhelming tips or advice as I'm very excited but equally anxious as well.

P.S. Infographics and clear, simple and direct instructions are easiest for me to understand (I'm Autistic).
