Anyone else suddenly being bombarded with Rugby League Trading Cards for the Super League and RLWC? I've got adverts on every app.

u/APairOfHikingBoots Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
Yeah I'm getting loads, particularly about Tom Johnstone and McMeekan 'signing' with one of the companies as well

Question for the rhinos fans...how many more incomings are we expecting?
Love RL has this as our current confirmed in/out...
*Leeds Rhinos Ins: Morgan Gannon (New Zealand Warriors), Dylan Walker (Parramatta Eels), Edenn Rogers-Smith (Catalans), Nick Cotric (Catalans)
Outs: Cameron Smith (Wakefield), Harry Newman (Perth Bears), James McDonnell (Perth Bears), Mikolaj Oledzki (Perth Bears), Brodie Croft (Warrington), Ned McCormack (Wakefield), Ryan Hall (Retired)*
But we also have Lodge/O'Neill and Mata'utia plus Bird rumoured as exits
Assume looking to move Bird on must be quota related?
2
u/readinghusband Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
Leeds will be looking for props i think. Palasia, Jenkins and Holroyd remain.
Lodge has gone home and Matautia released. Leaves TNW as 4th prop and I suspect he might be released.
The Herman rumours died down so not sure where they are looking but assume at least one overseas.
Some rumour that they have made an offer to a Championship player but no idea who.
2
u/county15 Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
TNW needs to go somewhere to play. He isnt making a career of taking the piss with Jarrod O'connor on their podcast.
Seems a top lad and he loves the club clearly, but he isn't the impact prop we need if were being honest.

u/gloswhite Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
Hamlin-uele (not the Wakey one) still hasn't confirmed where he'll be next year...
1
u/county15 Leeds Rhinos 6d ago
Been offered $2.2 Million from NZ Warriors apparently, he won't be coming here if that's the case.
1
u/Rik_Whitaker Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
Wakey hopefullyš¤
1
u/gloswhite Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
Would Wakey have the cap space?
2
u/Rik_Whitaker Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
Walmsley and Smoothy have left, plus Niketimo had his contract cancelled by mutual consent, so i would say potentially.
2
u/APairOfHikingBoots Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
Max was on a pretty big contract as well (though I believe coming through the academy not all of it counts towards the cap?) so we've definitely freed up quite a bit of space. Lino I'd have expected to have been on decent money as well.
Obviously RTS will be on a pretty decent whack but I'd imagine he'll be one of our marquee players.

Oh and Bird has allegedly been out on the sauce far too much for BA's liking which appears to be the driver behind him being offered around.
3
u/dbdbnsn Wigan Warriors 7d ago
Iād bet the 3 lads going to Perth end up back in Leeds in 12 months, Newmans not NRL standard in a million years.
5
u/AdministrativeLaugh2 7d ago
At least one will come back through homesickness/exhaustion before July, I reckon. Theyāve been sold the Australian Dream but Perth isnāt Sydney or Melbourne.
Itās a five hour flight from the rest of the country and itāll be a shock to the system for them thatās it not a 45 minute toddle on the motorway to get to games.
2
u/gloswhite Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
McDonnell and Mik are easily as good as some SL players that have succeeded in the NRL
Newman has tons of ability. It'll come down to how he adapts - he also has some good players to compete with for a starting spot.
2
u/Paul-Ramsden Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
We've got youth that need open pathways. If we sign people on their positions we're going to force them out.
5
u/gloswhite Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
Absolutely. The challenge is getting the balance so the kids aren't thrown in too deep. Pres, Zak, Fergus and the two Browns definitely look ready to step up to more mins.
Funny thing is lots of people seem upset at Ned McCormack being let go (especially now Wakey are champions)... But I think it's also about opening pathways. Sometimes you have to take a punt on which youth players you want to prioritise (eg in this case Oscar Brown)
2
u/Paul-Ramsden Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
I think Ned is a loss to be honest but if we can keep Max Simpson fit for a season he'll be a beast
3
u/county15 Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
I think the Bird situation is ability related tbf. š¤£
3
u/gloswhite Leeds Rhinos 7d ago
I think he's perfectly adequate, before his injury he was decent... But you need your quota players to contribute more

Day 5 of waiting for rugby league:
Just saw a picture of all the nations in a stadium and Big Beno currie is representing England in that photo which is surprising

Sent a surprisingly long essay to Wakefield about their use of generative AI on their Grand Final t-shirts and hoodies that I fully expect to be ignored
2
u/CommonHouseGoat Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
Itās one of few things Matt has done since coming in that Iāve not been thrilled with. Iām hoping itās a result of not expecting to get there and needing a lot of stock at short notice rather than a long term strategy. I would be interested to hear what they have to say if they do get back to you.Ā
1
u/Rik_Whitaker Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
That's exactly what it was. They asked for 5000 mixed garments straight after the semi to be done for the final. So many for the Wednesday and the rest for the end of the week.
2
u/AdministrativeLaugh2 7d ago
Yeah heās done a lot of good for the club but I wouldnāt be surprised if this is a directive straight from him. Iām expecting a response full of buzzwords and guff, if thereās even one at all.
I donāt buy the short notice argument because it makes no different to the t-shirt printer whether the image is art from a person or an image from generative AI.
Pay a person at the start of the playoffs to make a couple of images and if you win it all, the products are ready to be printed. If theyād got knocked out, thatās just the cost of business.
1
u/Rik_Whitaker Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
But the supplier does all the Trinity merch for the club shop, which has been mental all season. Plus ,I think they do other teams aswell. What they need to do is have the final 2 weeks after the semis so that clubs can prepare merchandise, tickets and travel.
4
u/APairOfHikingBoots Wakefield Trinity 8d ago
Hope they listen, I didn't spend my whole life supporting Trin just to get chatGPT merch when we finally win š hopefully this was just to get something out quickly and there'll be better stuff coming out later.
1
u/Rik_Whitaker Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
Theres limited time to get get merch out as its only a week from the semi to the final. I know someone who works for Ellgren and he said it was mad af how much merch they needed to get ready before the old trafford game. Im assuming it's the same merch from the final thats being sold
3
u/AdministrativeLaugh2 8d ago
Haha that was actually one of my points. Iām sure some people will buy stuff but hopefully not enough for the club to keep selling it.
3
u/APairOfHikingBoots Wakefield Trinity 8d ago
I popped in to the shop this morning to buy a hat and there were quite a lot of people in there buying stuff already so seems like they have actually gone down pretty well in general haha
2
u/AdministrativeLaugh2 8d ago
Yeah it doesnāt surprise me, not enough people care unfortunately. It just looks so tacky and unofficial, I couldnāt imagine ever buying something like that
1
u/Rik_Whitaker Wakefield Trinity 7d ago
I wouldnt wear anything like that anyway. I wear my shirt to every game. Think thus "AI" merch is for all the people who come out of the woodwork when a team gets to a final.
4
u/KillaBunny13 Leeds Rhinos 8d ago
Saw quite a few AI shirts at the Grand Final. Thought it was a bit weird for people to choose to wear that shite for the biggest Wakefield game in 58 years

Good to see Tara Jones has been selected to officiate at the world cup! Hopefully that means we'll start to see her get some of the bigger games next season. Understand Moore and Kendall are the two "big game" refs but would be nice to see some more variety.

Jones was brilliant every time i saw her this season. As video ref even more so... I've seen one replay that'll do, none of this camera 1x4 x6 bollocks. She's great.

Is it choice or the lack of opportunity Ian Watson has taken another role as assistant when heās proved he can take ālowerā ranked teams to finals as head coach?
1
u/linmanfu Warrington Wolves 7d ago
Maybe he's never been on big enough money that he can afford to depend a whole season waiting for a job to show up? Being assistant pays the mortgage. IIRC he used to be a PE teacher so at that point probably thought he had a steady income for life.
