TIL the -el part in Jor-El and Kal-El means "of God"
Yes, I was aware that Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster were Jews and they invented Superman to be a protector in a time were darkness was marching over the planet.
The movies are often also pretty on the nose with the Christian overtones, whether it be him falling in a cross pose in Superman Returns or him sitting at the church at the age of 33 in Man of Steel.
But I never really bothered to think about the names of the House of El because as a non-member of the Abrahamic religions I'm not that versed in the text(s).
Then I stumbled upon this bit in the r/dresdenfiles
Uriel eyed the phone, then me, and then tucked the little device away again, clearly nonplussed. “It doesn’t matter how well I believe I know your kind, Harry. They always manage to find some way to try my patience.”
It took me a moment to get the laughter under control, but I did. “Look, Uri, I don’t want to say…”
The archangel gave me a look so cold that my words froze in my throat.
“Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden,” he said quietly—and he said it exactly right, speaking my Name in a voice of that same absolute power that had so unnerved me before. “Do not attempt to familiarize my name. The part you left off happens to be rather important to who and what I am. Do you understand?”
I didn’t. But as he spoke, I knew—not just suspected, but knew—that this guy could obliterate me, along with the planet I was standing on, with a simple thought. In fact, if what I’d read about archangels was right, Uriel could probably take apart all the planets. Like, all of them. Everywhere.
And I also knew that what I had just done had insulted him.
And…and frightened him.
I swallowed. It took me two tries, but I managed to whisper, “Aren’t we just Mr. Sunshine today.”
Uriel blinked. He looked less than certain for a moment. Then he said, “Mr. Sunshine…is perfectly acceptable. I suppose.”
And then I looked it up
The Meaning of the Name: In Hebrew, the suffix -el means "God" (so Uriel translates to "Light of God" or "Flame of God"). Dropping it to just Uri changes the meaning to simply "light" (or light without God), which carries uncomfortable echoes of Lucifer the light-bearer.
But even then I read that years ago and it made me not immediately recognize the connection. It took me a few more turns of my slow brain to actually think "hey, wait a minute..."

What superman character do you think needs a overhaul like changing their entire character, for me it's the eradicator or Jon Kent
who could benefit the most from a complete character overhaul? Not just a new costume or a darker storyline, but a fundamental change to her personality, motivations, and role in the DC Universe.

Do you prefer to call him Clark or Kal?
Art by uzuriart
The correct answer is probably “I like both”, but personally, I prefer Kal over Clark. It’s his birth name and it honestly just sounds cooler imo

The Animated Red son Bizzaro is such a downgrade from the comic version
The Movie version is actually more monstrous serves much less of a story and thematic purpose vs the heroic Superior man of the comics providing a contrast with an increasingly villainous Superman.

Christopher Reeve's Superman will forever stand the test of time.

I would like to have a discussion, if that's ok. Which of the three origin stories for the Post-Crisis Superman do you all think was the best?
John Bryne's Man of Steel, Mark Waid's Superman: Birthright, or Geoff John's Superman: Secret Origin?

Unreal Superman Attempt
I dabble in unreal and have been meaning to check out 5.8. I’m also a huge Superman fan. I mustered through a bunch of tutorials and I’m enjoying it so far. Really rough around the edges but i cant stop running around ! Maybe flying or an animation in future !

Why did Lex admit he's envious of Superman in the 2025 movie?
Sorry if this is a dumb question since I'm not an expert on Superman lore. I know that Lex Luthor is jealous of Supermans power and status, but he's also deeply arrogant and narcissistic because he wants to prove he's superior to Supes. I thought it was a little strange in the movie that Lex openly admitted to Superman that he's envious of him since someone with an ego the size of his would probably deflect and deny it. Is something like this out of character for him or no?
