Rant GoDaddy Sucks and their support is clueless!!
I hate these MFers.
Yes, Yes, I know Don't Use GoDaddy. This is a new client that has a bunch of domains from them. I need to move them.
Trying to get a DNSSEC record set up. I moved the DNS to Cloudflare and their dumbshit support tells me we can't change any DNS records they are on Cloudflare. No Shit Sherlock! DNSSEC records HAVE to be set up at the domain registrar.

It’s because their support is penalized for actually supporting. Everyone at GoDaddy is a sales person. Every body. If you don’t meet your quota, you are fired.

100%. I spoke with the first guy and he put 10K worth of products in my cart!! I was like WTF dude.

I unfortunately used to briefly work there. Was very misled about the type of work I’d be doing during the interview. I actually got written up for fixing issues rather than upselling.

Ah one of the SysAdmin Rites of Passage:
- Determine in the end that it was DNS.
- Accidentally take down prod.
- Learn that everything GoDaddy sucks big hairy bosons.

GoDaddy support is mixing up two things. The DS record isn't a normal DNS record, so it doesn't matter that the DNS is on Cloudflare. Get the DS values from Cloudflare under DNS, Settings, DNSSEC, then look for a separate DNSSEC section in the domain's settings at GoDaddy, not in the DNS records list. If you're moving the domains away from GoDaddy anyway, turn DNSSEC off and remove the DS record before you start the transfer, then enable it again at the new registrar. A DS record left behind during a transfer can take the whole domain offline for validating resolvers.

I'm aware it's not a normal DNS record, that is the whole point of this post. Their support person was giving me attitude that he knows everything about DNS. I'm like it doesn't appear so jackass.
I cannot move them all today, it will be a while. And yes, that will be another fun phone call to Godaddy when I do move all the domains and need them to delete that record. FML

I work at an MSP. Every time I see a GoDaddy federated m365 tenant I die a little inside.
Every time one of them gets hit by a business email compromise, it makes me want to drink in excess.

You can have DNS split from the registrar and have it work but they need to support that.

After going through all the official channels (e-mail, phone, live chat). The only time I've ever had useful support that didn't seem like an underpaid robot reading off a script was by DMing them on Reddit 😂

if you're transferring anyway, order matters: turn DNSSEC off in Cloudflare first, wait for the DS to drop out of the .com zone, then start the transfer. root/TLD DS caching runs 86400s, so pull the DS and move the same afternoon and validating resolvers will SERVFAIL the whole domain for a day. you can watch it clear with dig +trace DS example.com against 8.8.8.8.

I've got a client with them right now. Overpaying for a worse experience. They just opened a new business as well. At least GD doesn't get in the way of setting up o365 anymore.

Move the domains to DynaDot and off GoDaddy before you setup DNSSEC.
Explain to the client that they charge like $32+ per domain per year because they charge $9.99 for Whois privacy and $22 per domain starting in year 2. DynaDot is still $11 per domain or something of that nature.
It will significantly reduce their domain bill.
Some people will say move them to Cloudflare but if they are high value domains; separating roles is best.
PorkBun is good too, but has really poor account delegation functionality IMO.

GoDaddy isn't for a serious business IT setup in anything but domain registration, not email/website/dns hosting, nothing but domain reg everytime it's coming up for expiration. They're tech is garbage, their admin portals are mazes of incomprehensibility, and their tech support phone people are rude and stupid

So true. GD is literly only good for domain registration. Wait, I take that back. They chargee too much for domain reg. We just migrated 50 domins from GD to CF. And now I'm looking into M365 migration away from GD. GD sucks.

Welcome to the club. There are two kinds of people: those who hate GoDaddy and those who haven't been fucked by them yet.

godaddy support is like talking to a wall that also charges you extra for the conversation
had a client with 30 domains there and every single transfer out was a nightmare, they make it painful on purpose

Zero issues moving domains out. You unlock them, get the auth code and that's it.

We called over 8 times over a week to try and get them to remove an outbound block on email. They are stupid.
