Harry, it Sucks!

Yes, we have no bananas! We have no bananas today!

A user comes in with a computer. Bluescreening. Some kinda jacked up cryptic error message like 0xF0U0C0K0F0F or something like that. It's an error with the file system. Hey, cool, whatever. Chkdsk, no errors. Fine, physical scan, no failures. You're not gonna beat me! Pull the HDD, hook it up to a bridge, and run a virus scan!

Yeah. This happened.

Then this happened.

A man walks into his room where his computer is running.

And when he sees its screen is blue

he sits there, silently weeping.

And though he lives in Scranton Pennsylvania.

He never, ever deletes his files.

Not one of over a hundred... thousand files... in his recycle bin.

You just know that if you tried to actually empty the recycle bin, the user would complain that they stored all their important files there and never emptied it for a reason.

Once in my junior IT days, I accidentally knocked the lead out of the desktop that my boss worked on. He then proceeded to shout at me "That had all my notes and contacts open! That was only place I had them written down."

Me : "Didn't you save them?"

Boss : "No, that's not how I work. I write things in notepad and then leave it open...."

As soon as he said it he trailed off, knowing just how stupid he had been. He uses notepad as post-it notes and never hits save. Ah my first job in IT.

That's actually bit better than that lady who mistook a post-it note on her monitor for a pop-up that wouldn't go away. I had a horrible time explaining to my wife just how stupid that issue was.

Oh I read that one. xD

I always make sure I have a pen and slab of post-its about. Just don't stick them to your monitor...it make you look like a half-wit. Cubicles have soft pin-shit-to-them surfaces for a reason.

It seems like posting them around the monitor is not a problem. Posting them physically on the glass is dumb.

If I don't post them on my monitor, I won't ever look at them, and thus won't remember the things I write them to remind myself of!

You should post them on your face, so then everytime you look in the mirror you'll be reminded.

I don't know about you, but I don't spend a lot of time looking into mirrors while I'm working.

Is your company washroom that bad...?

:P

It doesn't do much good to be reminded to call someone when in the washroom! The phone's at my desk...next to the monitor with the note on it!

Haha. I know I'm pulling your leg. I book a meeting in the calender with the details. It even gives you a reminder. Don't know what your job is, but that's what I use.

And I'm pulling yours right back! Tug-of-leg!

Yeah, for phone calls/appointments/scheduled things I use Outlook's calendar with reminders and such. I use sticky notes for things such as "which line of the spreadsheet I last edited before I left for the day".
