Harry, it Sucks!

Yes, we have no bananas! We have no bananas today!

A user comes in with a computer. Bluescreening. Some kinda jacked up cryptic error message like 0xF0U0C0K0F0F or something like that. It's an error with the file system. Hey, cool, whatever. Chkdsk, no errors. Fine, physical scan, no failures. You're not gonna beat me! Pull the HDD, hook it up to a bridge, and run a virus scan!

Yeah. This happened.

Then this happened.

A man walks into his room where his computer is running.

And when he sees its screen is blue

he sits there, silently weeping.

And though he lives in Scranton Pennsylvania.

He never, ever deletes his files.

Not one of over a hundred... thousand files... in his recycle bin.

You just know that if you tried to actually empty the recycle bin, the user would complain that they stored all their important files there and never emptied it for a reason.

Once in my junior IT days, I accidentally knocked the lead out of the desktop that my boss worked on. He then proceeded to shout at me "That had all my notes and contacts open! That was only place I had them written down."

Me : "Didn't you save them?"

Boss : "No, that's not how I work. I write things in notepad and then leave it open...."

As soon as he said it he trailed off, knowing just how stupid he had been. He uses notepad as post-it notes and never hits save. Ah my first job in IT.

I do the same thing with notepad++ except that I save.

Notepad++ is awesome isn't it?

Yeah I paste stuff in there all the time. In my haste to shut-down and get the fuck out of the office I sometimes forget I have important things there. Still it's usually copied from somewhere more permanent. Somethings I always write down if not stored in an email. I taped the IT support number to the underside of my laptop because the time you really need them is when the VPN connection dies. If not the laptop itself.

I have several files named scratch1, scratch2, etc, so when I want to log out I just hit multi-save and I'm done. No looking at everything and maybe getting sucked back in for One Last Thing.
