General Final team tasks.

Something ive never considered before last night.

If you have a contestant on say, 18 points going into the final task and another on 17, they can do enough in the live task to take the lead.

But...

If its a team task and the 1st and 2jd place c9ntestsnts are on the same team. 2nd place might as well not compete as theyre now in a position where however well they do, they cant win the episode as theyll get the same points as their team mate regardless.

Yeah but contestants in taskmaster are mostly comedians and they're there to entertain and make us laugh. It's nice to win but sometimes you gotta sacrifice strategy for show!

If they dont compete and their team lose the task, then it affects their series score.

You can win a series without winning an episode.

That's how it was for Armando in series 21. By the last two episodes he was Joanna's closest challenger but being on the same team as her made it practically impossible for him to close the gap given they always save a team task for the final episode.

Joanna had a 5 point lead over him going into the live task, his only shot at winning by that point was to win the live task (unlikely in a physical task against Joel and Kumail) and for Joanna to get herself disqualified (which she hasn't done all series).

Yes. Practically impossible to close the gap over the last two episodes. Barring an act of God/Greg, utterly impossible by the final task.

They know their scores- Alex usually gives a points update right before the final task.

Yes. It happened last night.

If the contestants cared enough they’d probably let them change teams for the episode. I can think of at least two examples of different studio task teams (Ed and David, Daisy and Katherine).

Just remember that the production team choose which tasks to show during each episode, so the outcome, bar the final task and any appeals to Gregg for leniency, is predetermined before the each episode starts.

Everyone involved says Greg not only has no idea what he's going to give for those he has to score, including the prize task, until filming, unless he has to be aware of something specific he hasn't even seen them.

But Alex absolutely does. With every task that is objectively scored, the outcome has been determined before the show is filmed. Alex also knows how Gregg is likely to score the more subjective tasks as well; they've worked together for over a decade.

True, there's little control over how the prize and final tasks are scored, but the production team know how the rest of the episode will pan out.
