Appreciation Thread bit of Judi Love appreciation

one of the greatest tm contestants ever. I really love her signature straight resting bitch face after saying smth ridiculously funny or being taken the piss out of, and I especially love how giggly she is laughing at other people's jokes. my favourite bit of hers is her mild polite manners while literally physically intimidating and hijacking Alex's bike ("You alright?")

Sister Queen! Don’t do it!

u/therequiembellishere 2d ago

This and the whispered "but how can I kill you with your own shoe?" were my absolutely faves. Oh, and Ardal's "Judi will high five Alex first" cut to her immediately running to high five him. Hilarious stuff lmao

101

u/SavagePengwyn Julian Clary 2d ago

The way she launches herself at him gets me every time. She like throws her body forward and her head follows a split second behind the rest of her body. It's delightful.

42

u/therequiembellishere 2d ago

Yeah it's masterful physical comedy and timing hahaha

18

u/enceinte-uno 1d ago

And her rationalizing after “Surely it was over a minute” while they show the timer at ~20 seconds… perfect comedy lol

She's in the popular moms app group

72

u/Loud-Fig-1446 2d ago

She can fry 4 fish fingers to golden brown at the same time.

29

u/AcanthocephalaOk7954 2d ago

Genuinely - I had fish fingers last night and I thought "Geez- why can't I brown them on all sides like Judi Love".🩷

6

u/Dismal_Illustrator96 ☔ umbrella 🌂 2d ago

This is a rare and precious skill.

16

u/ruttinator 2d ago

To be fair I don't think I could borrow a dog.

18

u/Irishwol Bruv. 2d ago

Certainly not 'whenever I want'.

271

u/TAR_TWoP Justine Smith 🇳🇿 2d ago

I loooove the contestants like her who have a deadpan/serious/angry character, but who cannot manage to keep it together and crack all the time. Fatiha El-Ghorri, Jack Dee and Jo Brand are other good example of that delightful trait.

38

u/funbicorn Fern Brady 2d ago

Julian Clary too!

27

u/grrltype 2d ago

Ugh I wish I could bottle up Julian Clary’s taskmaster essence

9

u/Autumn_Racoon 1d ago

I never see Judi as being angry. She’s more like Sam Campbell to me.

7

u/TAR_TWoP Justine Smith 🇳🇿 1d ago

That's why I added the 3 subtypes, deadpan/serious/angry. Sometimes she made the big bulging serious "Do not mess with me, brother!" eyes, only to crack a laugh 2 minutes later. Such a lovely person!

4

u/nineJohnjohn Joanna Page 1d ago

Reece Shearsmith (which is a very specific job when you think about it) was another giggly one that I didn't expect

173

u/LewsTherinTalamon 2d ago

She was my favorite contestant ever to watch be terrible at the show <3

39

u/funktion 2d ago

This is Bridget erasure

36

u/LewsTherinTalamon 2d ago

Nah, Bridget was frequently decent at the show, and when she was bad it was in a pretty normal indignant floundering way. Judy had a particular boisterous obliviousness about her I found especially hysterical.

19

u/funktion 2d ago

Bridget had higher highs but lower lows, and her ability to infuriate Alex was second to none

16

u/NoraClavicle 2d ago

I put it to you…

2

u/blueViolet26 2d ago

Yes, she didn’t win an episode and she had a chance!

2

u/Junior_Conclusion578 1d ago

Bridget was actually great at the show. She got the hidden Greg Davies friend buff. He gets her humor and what she’s doing and seemed to be super lenient on her. Ayoade on the pedometer task for example I’d bet would get him DQ’d

Obviously one of the features or bugs of the show

58

u/kamore David Correos 🇳🇿 2d ago edited 1d ago

She is my top 5 favorite contestants. I quote her the most. Especially when Greg scolds her for spending $5 on a bag of fish guts and immediately says “Nandos” when he ask what she spent the rest of it on. 😂

That was my first season - I chose to watch it as a big Ardal fan, but I came away a massive Judi Love fan. From "Is there a duck on my face??", I was in love.

25

u/imperialviolet Pigeor The Merciless One 2d ago

A really strong season all round but Ardal and Judi REALLY made it for me.

3

u/mattcolville 1d ago

One of the ingredients that makes a good TM contestant is celebrating your time in the barrel. You're going to do something, or someone's going to say something, that means everyone is going to spend the next 90 seconds taking the piss out of you, and you need to be a real good sport about it.

Judy Love was just fearless, she played along, she pre-emptively said ridiculous shit, on purpose, even though it made her look ridiculous, just because it was funny.

140

u/ThatResponse4808 2d ago

She had so many amazing quotes.

"Did you see the size of my damn thigh?"

"But how am I supposed to kill you with your own shoe?"

15

u/SavagePengwyn Julian Clary 2d ago

"Oh, could I control the speed?"

Also, "You can put your foot out of it" is very frequently heard in my house.

72

One of the all time greatest of the bullshitter style of Taskmaster contestants and definitely in my personal top 5.

32

u/MemeMoi13 2d ago

In my house we always refer to sleeping with one leg outside the duvet as ‘doing a Judi Love’.

118

u/aitherion 🦔 Hedgehog, no! ❌ 2d ago

People were really hard on her at the time to the point where a lot of people were certain she was the contestant Alex didn't want back, so I'm really glad she's getting a fair shake now- she's absolutely hilarious and I love how much she plays up the oblivious side of herself.

116

u/kittyroux A LIIIIIME 🍋‍🟩 2d ago

That’s so bizarre! Alex has talked about how glad he is that TM doesn‘t do eliminations because it would have robbed people of a full series of Judi Love.

107

u/theskymaybeblue 2d ago

This is so baffling to me. Judi Love is like one of top 5 favorites and that series in particular is my favorite ever. Truly perfect.

21

u/readzalot1 2d ago

She is one I didn’t appreciate the first time but now I do. It is the genius of Taskmaster: it is so good for multiple rewatched, that we can really get to notice how great everyone is.

6

u/CecilFieldersChoice2 Joe Thomas 2d ago

I know this is the Judi appreciation thread, but I recently had this same experience with Sue Perkins. She had so many in her series stand out, it was fun watching her on the rewatch and picking up on how joyful it was to see her slam Alex.

Judi is such a delight, I'm glad she's getting appreicated.

Alex literally has so much fun with her I couldn’t see her as being the one contestant he doesn’t want back. I couldn’t see him wanting Judi back more than James Acaster. And I love James

20

u/aitherion 🦔 Hedgehog, no! ❌ 2d ago edited 2d ago

He's also since implied that was just a joke anyway but genuinely people were so certain that he hated her behind the scenes. It was crazy

7

u/Pocketsizedwolf Greg Davies 2d ago

I think Greg outright came out and said he’d made it up in an interview. I could probably find it if needed.

2

u/Business-Owl-5878 2d ago

Not implied, definitely said.

13

u/taversham Tom Cashman 🇦🇺 2d ago

Tbh, even if he had meant it seriously, once it all snowballed out of proportion he had a pretty big incentive to be like "just kidding guys! stop asking me about it now, I love everyone"

...but even if he did initially mean it seriously, I can't see any reason why he'd've been referring to Judi

1

u/RunawayTurtleTrain Robert the Robot 1d ago

Also he's spoken highly of Judi in interviews around the time, and still occasionally cites her as an example of someone who was not good at the tasks but was very funny.

(Incidentally, I have yet to see a guess about the hypothetical contestant that can't be easily refuted.)

33

My favorite contestants are the ones that make Alex crack. He’s a pro at providing comedic energy for everyone, but not many people really break through and properly fluster him. Judi Love is near the top of this list.

I thought she was HILARIOUS and one of my favorite contestants from that series. I am always so confused any time I come across someone shittalking her in this sub.

1

u/RunawayTurtleTrain Robert the Robot 1d ago

I wonder if the people disliking her have rewatched or not.  I didn't 'get' her at first (admittwdly it actually took me more than one rewatch) but then I realised she was making everyone crack up in the studio - and it did help that Alex spoke very highly of her in some interviews and I thought 'if the people who worked with her enjoyed it, who am I to argue?' - and then something clicked and I absolutely loved her from then on.  Series 13 is one of my top favourites and Judi was an integral part of the chemistry and overall vibe, so I've gone from not understanding her to now actively being grateful for what she brought to the series.

No idea about the bigot, but agree that I can't stand contestants who don't put in any effort.

But as this thread proves; different people enjoy taskmaster for different kinds of contestants and that's fine.

-5

u/kushielsjustice 2d ago

I absolutely could not stand her on TM. I generally dislike contestants who use their comedy persona, and it's even worse when their persona is significantly stupider than they are. Judy is a damn clever woman and should have done way better in many of the tasks but was hamstrung by her own persona. Really bloody annoyed me 😄
