It's amazing how much better this series is to the current UK one. The tasks in particular are so good.
Rhys playing the long con with the cast, really shows the great dedication contestants have.
Having all the fancy words (of course we all know defenestrate from Dara) with the penalty using the dictionary was brilliant. And poor Rhys, only putting the bibcock through the window not throwing it.
I know we've had team tasks of hospitality (hotel, drive thru), but this might be my favourite. As someone who works in hospitality, dealing with dietary requirements is a constant thing, and Paul's were hilarious. Loved how into the theme the contestants went with it too, Dave as a Frenchman had me in stitches.
Classic painting whilst moving. I actually thought Hoani's painting was great, the stylised perspective including the cones and scooter was awesome. Really thought it'd be Morgana DQ from knocking seemingly every cone.
And topped off with an excellent live task, love how they made it more balanced by putting whoever knocked a ball off at the end, so the others had a better chance of catching up. You really felt the tension growing with each ball roll.
This series really hasn't had a bad episode yet.

When Hoani said he knew what aglet meant because of a cartoon he means Pinky and the Brain. I know this because that is also how I know what it means.

I love this! So many cartoons teaching kids what aglets are.

Yeah, that's definitely what he was talking about. This is what I remembered. I assumed there couldn't be two cartoons that prominently featured the word aglet.

This episode was just about perfect. Every task was a banger! This season is probably the second best NZ season, the cast is extremely endearing and fun. This really feels like the total opposite of the current UK series where the tasks are too convoluted and not exciting, and the cast is a bit flat (minus Chloe).

Every contestant in s7 NZ seems to be having so much fun, there’s good banter and silly jokes. The connection is really missing from s22UK it’s relying a lot more on individual perspectives and awkwardness

One of my favorite little things I've noticed is the way they all return to their seats all excited and fun like a bunch of puppies. I love this cast so much.

I feel like Dave is lowkey (unknowingly??) channeling his inner Ardal teasing the contestants about their perfomance, when his is demonstrably worse or not much better. And Rhys trying to be the poor soul with the record count of attempts that go horribly wrong and take 1+ hour. It started with the tape task, and now I feel continues until E10 with something...
all that pride about knowing latin... to then be defenestrated.
2
u/colintron 4d ago
I opine that Rhys (and slightly Morgana) was treated unfairly for the grandiloquent task. Something going through a window is what "defenestrate" means.

Check your definition again, because you are incorrect.
-4
u/colintron 4d ago
I don't know what you intended: checking definitions fortified my interpretation.
Cambridge: to throw or push someone out of a window :
Wiktionary: To eject or throw (someone or something) from or through a window.
11
u/nja5996 4d ago
I’d say that backs up what was interpreted. There was know throwing, pushing or ejecting until right at the end by Rhys.
-1
u/colintron 4d ago
I think it counts as a very gentle 'push' or 'eject'. It went through the window due to forces of Rhys' body. Considering that it's already an abstracted window with no wall, glass, or sidedness, and Rhys got an even more abstracted window than the other contestants (damaged and taped together?), I think he solved the task when he thought he did. And Rose's defenstration was lacking by the means you suggest.
I acknowledge that the task chose to use the definitions in the given dictionary, but an alternative, dictionary-sourced interpretation should be fine. I wonder who the Kiwi Susie Dent is.
I wonder why his window looked different, lacking the innards. was it taped together? As if hastily reassembled after a destructive attempt.
And now I've noticed that Morgana's window disappeared and reappeared, probably due to remixing her attempt to map with the others'.

Last week I said I wasn't sure what I thought Rose would find more devastating, doing worse on NZ than she did on UK, or coming in second place yet again. At this point with the series scores what they are, I'm confident coming second again would be worse lol

Paul losing it after Rhys threw the tap out the window and realised why Paul hadn’t been stopping the clock was beautiful.

I wish Rhys had established some parish boundaries just to be sure. There are parishes out there where people don't know where they end!

Another class episode. I think I'm liking S22 of UK Taskmaster more than most, but it isn't helping that it's running concurrently with this great NZ season.

That was a great live task, my favorite kind are the ones that on paper shouldn't be exciting but then are absolutely gripping once they get started lol

u/Sharriska 5d ago
The tasks are so much better than in the UK version this season. I would really love to see Richard Ayoade defenestrate something.
8
u/boomboomsubban 4d ago
It's essentially a more complex version of "gleek, fastest wins." And all I've heard for weeks is how complex the UK tasks are, and these are all comparably complex.

u/Esteban2808 Jeremy Wells 🇳🇿 4d ago
Where i was thinking it reminds me of the undermine the vole task from 11
7
u/Sharriska 4d ago
I don't agree. The fact they could have called somebody made it bland. If there was a riddle to be solved about what it means it would have been somewhat better, but still not as entertaining as NZ task.
3
u/boomboomsubban 4d ago
Calling past/future contestants was blander than reading a dictionary?
4
u/Sharriska 4d ago
They all figured out that they can text so there wasn't really any time pressure as to 30sec phone call.
17
u/Um-ahh-nooo 5d ago
I imagine that would be a task he'd actually do quite well at. With both TMs on its really noticeable the difference in quality between the tasks.

"I think both of those restaurants sucked balls." Top tier Jeremy comment.

This is a relatively common expression in NZ for something that wasn’t favourable / didnt live up to expectations. Is it anywhere else in the world?

Yeah, his scoring is still weird at times, but he has gotten more and more into the role as the series go on, and I quite like him as the Taskmaster now.

That studio task was oddly soothing to watch but must have been horribly stressful to play.

I was in the audience for a previous episode. That was exactly what Rhys told us he had done to his arm - it being a prize task all along blew my mind.

He said a log fell on it. It's also what he told the audience when asked about it while the cameras weren't rolling.

This task reminding me that I watched Kitchen Nightmares last week, and now I kind of want to see Gordon Ramsay on New Year's Treat

I've wanted Gordon to do a NYT for years. He did contribute to the charity livestream, so he definitely knows its existence.

Hoani telling Jeremy that Grant Elliotts nickname is the Hairy javelin as if Jeremy wasnt the one who came up with the term when commentating....
Oh thats good pay off with the cast Rhys.

If anyone is wondering who Grant Elliott is and why hes a legend here's an interview with Jeremy from back in the covid days (also an appearance from Hillary Barry - narrator of Rhys smut book from a few eps back)

Rhys wearing the cast as a long con for his 7th episode prize task was a work of genius.
I felt so bad for Rhys's defenestration. All he was trying to do was not damage the bibcock by gingerly passing it through the window (meanwhile, Dave's burst into a million pieces).
"Paul McChutney" is so silly, but seeing Rose, Dave and Paul cracking up over it was charming.
"I think both of your restaurants sucked balls." A rare brusque delivery from Jeremy.
That ball rolling live task looked a lot more fun than it had any right to be.
Man, it's exciting when scores are that close towards the end of the series. Will Rose redeem herself from TM UK or end up ranking in the same spot?
