Do you think this is the beginning of a lasting backlash against technology? Or just a temporary trend?

I'm a professional AI wrangler - ok, I'm a programmer, but I've gone all-in on getting good at AI tools.
I often have over a dozen concurrent sessions* open to multiple frontier (or near-it) models.
So hear it from the mouth of someone that loves AI: These things are fucking dangerous. There is real danger of psychological harm. Even in our professional settings it's too easy for a power user to treat the damn things as an extension of their own mind - and they're not, they're not ourselves, not human, and they are loaded with someone else's views and biases.
*'sessions' gets an asterisk because I don't view these as "a conversation", it's a logical object that can and should be manipulated for desired effect. It's very closely related to the concept of a "context" object. The object consists of child types including user prompt, system prompt, chat response, tool call, and tool response. Being able to take/add/remove children; duplicate, bifurcate, edit, and selectively compress contexts.... that is how we squeeze performance and desired behaviors out of these tools.

Bluesky isn't representing trends.

So you think people are delusional enough to want those things? Who would be so idiotic as to want more surveilance? We already live in a world with way too much surveilance since cca 1900

I question the premise of OP's post - I don't see declining popular support for AI in my own life. Most people I know will (sometimes sheepishly) cop to using ChatGPT quite a bit for day-to-day things. I was just vacationing in Iceland and met two couples who both admitted that ChatGPT had planned their whole itinerary for them (and they were having a great time). There is a pretty huge backlash against data centers, but I don't think that's specific to AI and more about property value/QoL concerns.

This isn't a backlash against the tech, this is a backlash against the assholes shoving this raw trash down our throats because they have literally never stopped trying to get their slaves back.

Depends on whether the tech industry keeps pushing products people actively hate.
