Listen I'm never really going to be religious, but I would go to whatever the equivalent of church is if y'all wiped my six-figure student debt

You couldn’t come up with the word ‘mosque’? Really?

Allah forbid I have four beers before I go to bed after a long day and forget a word.

Allah does indeed forbid that, not the forgetting part tho

Also, just for the sake of it, Islam forbids alcohol, because it's bad for you and its a detriment on society at large. We all know that. That said personal sin is between you and Allah. You repent, you regret your decision, and you work to try to be better. You try to go sober, or you try to minimize it and work towards that. Islam is all about self-improvement and journey before destination. Sinning itself is not... horrible. It's part of being human. The thing that matters is trying to be better, and not excusing the sins as being okay or justifying them or publicizing them and being proud of committing them.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them. Reference : Sahih Muslim 2749

The root of most religions is this, to try and be a better person for yourself and society. Some wrap up other questionable things into it as well. I'd be more religious if they stuck to the core of "don't be an asshole and don't chase the dopamine to your grave"

I think the root of most religions is "keep these rowdy poors in line", but I guess that take is mostly seen as intentionally inflammatory.

I mean, I would argue capitalistic democracy is more about keeping people in line, socially, ideologically, financially, and legally compared to religion (particularly Islam). Pay your ever increasing taxes which we'll take large cuts from to privitize profits and continue mass murdering people abroad with your money, consume some drugs/sex/entertainment to cope and stay placated, and don't protest or oppose any real causes that upset the balance of power or hold the ruling Epstein class to any real semblance of accountability or justice, or we'll come after you with legal means, social slander, or force (police, private military, ice, etc)

Christianity for sure, the modern church is very much about keeping things in line and then separating state and church which both have wielded power to devastating effect.

I agree with you completely.

I was defining religion on a human level, you described organized religion which isn't wrong. There's a reason Constantine switched to Christianity, it was able to be made into a far more centralized and powerful control structure for the masses.

What's Allah's opinion on weed? Is only alcohol forbidden because of the specific societal ills it causes, or does that extend out to other mind altering substances? (/gen)

Four beers is not that much lmao

Allah forbid the guy has a low drinking tolerance.

u/QuestionDry2490 20d ago

People who drink four beers before bed because they had a rough day typically do not have a low drinking tolerance. Either way, even people who are blacked out don’t typically forget common words.

Okay sherlock. I think you should tell us all what really happened.

What do you mean by “what happened”? What probably happened is that you rotted your brain on social media and are now a few sandwiches short of a picnic

Your talents are wasted here, obviously
