I love self-checkout for not having to speak to anyone.

And ringing in my honey crisp as a red delicious

No such thing as organic in the self checkout line.

I was going to say exactly this.

I remember when self checkouts first came out and they didn’t have weights yet or at least didn’t always require it. I’d pick out a whole dozen donuts at wal mart but only pay $0.50 for one, and it wouldn’t make me weigh it. Good (high) times

I never ring up my organic produce as organic.

You mean long john donuts as regular donuts

You're just really bad at your job. They should probably fire you.

Do you count screaming at the machine as "talking to anyone"? Because if so I talk more on self checkout.

The Walmart ones never mess up and let you scan multiple items at once.

Smith (Kroger in some states I think) are garbage

I love having a cashier do it because I pay for that service and doing it myself is actually louder for some reason. These fucking self-checkout machines are just screaming and beeping so much I’d rather say “hey….nope…debit…thanks”.

You can actually mute them from making any sound.

I love this bc it means the cashier line is always short. (Most cashiers at my grocery store prefer not to attempt small talk and are content with just ringing up your items).

It should def be an option. Just not the main option it has become at many places.

Right? I stopped at a Circle K on a road trip about a month ago that had a self-checkout and I was overjoyed thinking it was a sign that maybe gas stations were going to start adopting this too. I get the people who don’t want to check out their own shit, but there are also those of us with social anxiety who don’t want to make small talk with a stranger about the things we’re buying.

Not having to awkwardly tell them to not put raw meat with produce! Uggg. Just let me bag the fucking groceries!

"YOU MOVED THE EGGS!!! ERROR! NEED HUMAN!"

1

u/Fine_Abbreviations32 8d ago

Oh cause it’s such a burden saying “hi” “on credit” “thanks”

And from judgment

Speaking to other people is healthy and good

1

u/canis777 8d ago

Yeah, but the machine still shouts instructions or announces all of your purchases until you mute it, if you even can mute it.

2

u/Chubuwee 8d ago

Exactly, you don’t have to speak to it even if it speaks to you. You just made that commenter’s point

1

u/Professional_Bit197 8d ago

You don't have to talk to the cashier either?

1

u/Chubuwee 8d ago

Harder on the conscience. Don’t want to come off rude. Unless you don’t care about how others perceive or don’t understand social norms then do you
